Video #2 of the winter prep series: how to prune back to overwinter your shrubs and hardy garden perennials ---------------- Rosy's trousers are from the Genus Gardenwear RHS collection: tidd.ly/4afXoWt (they do deliver to US)
This was a GREAT video. The transformation on the first shrub especially was so satisfying, even though initially the pruning looked dramatic. You were able to demonstrate how effective a thorough, knowledgeable pruning can really improve the look & health of a plant. Thank you! I’m totally enjoying this autumn in-the-field series.
Rosie, this is brilliant. I am beginning to garden “seriously” (😂) for the first time this year. It’s a new to us, old garden and I have so many questions. Between this and your great propagation course, I am leagues ahead. 💗
So nice to see you trimming your kowhai tree. Mine has just finished with its spectacular golden flowers. The tuis ( a native NZ bird) were visiting every day in pairs, singing their hearts out in joy for all the nectar and now I've got the seed pods hanging and waiting for the leaves to bud. Borer beetles tend to be the major threat as kowhai wood is very porous and they can do terrible damage. If you have this problem in the UK, I'd advise painting the open branch cuttings with a sticky paste, that stops them from drilling into the tree. Jo.😊
That was very helpful thank you. Can I ask where do you get your trousers from? Like how they have pockets could do with one of those thank you in advance.
I have a large hydrangea that has multiple heavy flower heads- I worry about snow falling and breaking the branches- should I prune it now, or should I wait till spring? I’m in zone 5B in Ontario. Thank you, Rosy.
