How to Prune Leggy Plants🦵🦵🌱🌱 - In this video I show how I prune plants that have stretched out in low light to keep a full shape. Frequently plants will put on new growth but will leave thin areas in the middle of the plant.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I bought the house with the worst yard. I am known for killing everything until I started watching your channel. Now my neighbor hate me and my family is baffled. My property taxes went up 😊 Trying to cope with the side affect of implementing your wisdom into my landscape. Just to deal.😂😂😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤ your channel.🎉🎉🎉 for all of my family and neighbors who laughed.

This is the first time EVER I've seen a chindo Viburnum not already trimmed, manicured. I have one several years old and it's GREAT to see what could happen to mine in the future..it's heavily shaded in the summer, some sun, not reaching a lot YET!

Thanks Jim! Informative as always. Needing to wait here...the arctic blast in December East TN really did a number on all our plants/trees. Will be interesting in April/May around here

Learning something new every day! The young osmanthus that you prune toward the end of the video looks a lot like a "mystery shrub" in my backyard foundation bed. Original owner of property said it was a "mock olive." Will see how it behaves this year and hopefully I can figure out what type of plant it is. Keeping fingers crossed that the jewel box distylium and lemon lime nandinas aren't dead. My neighbor's very old and tall nandina domesticas lost all of their leaves and berries after the December cold snap, but they are now starting to leaf out--hooray!

Hi Jim been following your channel for a while super informative. I live in Chicago's zone 6b and have 3 ninebark that need to be pruned when would be the best time to handle this project??? And how much should I prune off to make them look fuller. The plants are now entering thier 4th season and have gotten quite tall

Hello Jim, can you do a video regarding trees and shrubs that you recommend per State? I'm in Dallas, Texas and I would appreciate it. Been a subscriber and I trust your recommendations.

My lorepetalum suffered a hideous demise with the crazy freeze in December. I was about to go out and face the music and remove them, then I broke my wrist. I’m just gazing out the window at this horticultural graveyard

Hey, Jim! Love your channel. We have a Cherokee princess dogwood in a full sun site that has now had 3 trees in a space of 3 years. First year trunk split, second year no growth at all, and now this tree put in last May which does not look promising. When I trimmed off the spindly, crossed limbs a few weeks ago, it was clear some were dead while others still had some green. But no budding yet. We are in zone 7b Virginia with our favorite clay soil, and with some compost amendment. I know dogwoods can be challenging, but I am a Virginian and feel a responsibility not to replace it with a Kousa. Any suggestions? Should I just give up and put in a crape Myrtle?

I'm not Jim, BUT three trees in three years same spot? I would give up and try something different. Had young stone fruit trees die quickly after a few years in ground and haven't replaced then with more trees.

My beloved Gardenia, variety unknown, started from a friend, took a terrible hit this winter. I'm letting it be ugly until I see what's viable & the chance of another hard freeze fades. It may have to go close to the ground 😢 After years of growing this gift, it's not going to be easy to cut so hard. Would you wait until April in 7b Jim?

How would you prune conifers where you can’t see the cuts and NOT make them meatballs or teepees? I resist planting them because I don’t like the unnatural shapes.

Conifers as a group tend to be more formal looking, but there are interesting dwarf pines and false cypress that have more interesting open looks

I believe that 2022 freezes in North Alabama might have killed my daydream loropetalums sunshine ligustrum. About a week after the last freeze the stems became extremely thin. My David Austin Roses lost all of it leaves, but about a month ago it started leafing out. Should I prune, replace, and or just leave the Daydream Loropetalums and Sunshine Ligustrums? All of my encore azalea look so brown that I thought that they were dead. Ironically, they seem to have had a growth spurt even though we are consistently experiencing record Lows.
@juneramirez8580
@juneramirez8580 Год назад
I am pretty sure the plants will come back IF the roots didn't die also. Give them a chance to show growth and trim a little later after your last frost date is expected. That dead stuff insulates lower growth

A question about US zones and using it in Sweden? I live in the mildest climate there is here, lowest is -8 to -10 night time for only few days, snow appears but never more than for a week before it disappears with rain. Usually it’s between-3 and +3 in the winter. BUT our summers aren’t that hot either. Normally between 22 to 27 with max 32-35. So, what US zone should I use? Oh, degrees CELSIUS of course. 🫠
