Since I started to understand the world of publishing, anime, games... art in general, I've always seen that selling the rights to your IP to some company was like making a bet with the devil: there's a small, a lot small chance that everything will turn out as you want and your work will be successful, or they can distort your entire idea overnight, or simply give up investing in it out of nowhere and then it's over. The rights of your story now belong to them and not to you, you can no longer do anything with those characters... I was really touched by your words at the end of the video (the sad One Piece music helped). You were very sincere, mature and realistic here! I want to publish my manga myself to leave a legacy in the world, so that a part of me doesn't die with me. I have always believed that art is the manifestation of our soul! And that we can leave timeless messages through it! I don't want anyone in a suit messing with my characters! Seeing you work hard and do everything yourself inspired me so much! That's what made me see that I was capable of doing this too! I'm happy that my plan has always been exactly what you advised at the end of the video: I plan to post my comic online and let fate decide the rest! You are always so sincere and realistic with your audience and at the same time you never belittle anyone's dream, you always try to encourage us as much as possible! That's what I admire about you Marcel! I hope you never stop being like this! Thank you for the video, may whatever you believe bless you!
That's a lot of yap, but I know through a skim, that whatever you do, as long as you make sure the rights are to you and the credits too, the only thing left is to enjoy the ride buddy.
"I write stories, but I don't know how to grow or where to begin. However, I have an interest in writing, so I continue to write. If you want to collaborate or chat, please let me know."
My suggestion as an artist. Learn anatomy. Start with basic figure drawing too. Theirs tons of videos on people who make videos on that. Set a timer. Start off with 2 minutes and then go up from there. I promise your drawings will improve
Publishers can be a bit more complicated than you described, especially for comics. It's increasingly common for publishers to let you retain the rights for your work while they just take a percentage of the profits from selling the books. And with indie publishers, they often are less controlling about making changes to your work. It's also possible for a publisher to notice your webcomic and offer to sell physical copies without making any changes. It's rare, but it does happen.
Helpful as frick ...one thing I don't really like about my drawing style is a minimalistic cyberpunk style where almost everybody has elaborate clothing ....with too many accessories...but I love it ...worth it
Just got you book. I wish I could post a picture. It’s awesome!!!! Dude, it has everything. Thank you so much. It came out really great! Thank you for all the lessons!
Sir, your videos have rekindled my passion for drawing and storytelling. Thank you so much for your recent videos and your amazing catalog of videos. You have an amazing channel, and I look forward to seeing your future successes. Thank you
Some great info here that can carry into ANY creative aspect. I genuinely appreciate how seamlessly you worked the sponsor plug into your video. That in itself is a real talent; there are some really bad ones out there. I didn't even realize it was a plug until you were ready to move on from it!
i love you bro. i've always spent my life daydreaming (i have adhd, super adhd, super adhd 2, super adhd 3, super adhd god, super adhd blue.... where was i going with this? oh yeah!) and although it's gotten in the way of so much like school grades and other nonsense, i wanna show the world the creativity in my mind. yeah, i want the money, no i don't find it fun to draw, yes i suck at drawing, but i want this to be a career, i have a long way to go and i may not consistently own this flame in my heart but i know people will enjoy it's spark. all those times i've started an anime and ended up 2 hrs later still on the same episode because i'm pausing to daydream, i want it to not be in vain. you're content is always amusing, always inspirational, and i hope some day i can get... idk perhaps just an autograph. never knew why i'd want an autograph, don't know what i'd do with it... but it'd be an honor. i love you bro, see ya when i'm famous
As someone who both wants to go to MIT, be a mangaka, and has Super ADHD Blue 4 + ultra instinct, this comment resonated with me, see you when IM famous
Mickey (sorry i had to) you're the goat. I've only been watching your videos for a year now but imo my art skill and knowledge has quadrupled. Thank you for your videos. Im getting your english book when it drop fs 🔥
Thanks for always posting great content. I am a complete beginner aspiring to make a manga series and your video’s are making that daunting task so much easier. Thank you.
Being a straight up beginner and wanting to self publish is really difficult, especially when you feel like Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble Press are your only options. Selling at conventions would be cool, but I do agree to start selling at smaller conventions or comic book stores (if they allow it); I know I want to physcially sell, but for now I'm going the webcomic route while I do more research on what publishing route to take. For me, in my area, there is a comic store that supports indie creators; they do a small parking lot kind of option for people to sell their wares. Whenever I get to that point of physically selling my comic, that's my first option because right now I'm hearing too many different things about Amazon. My research continues....good luck to anyone doing the same....you got this 😊
@@C052-ip9zs I know, that's why I'm going to focus on putting my story onto Webtoons and Tapas while still doing research on which publishing path to take; my main focus is to get people to read my story....that's all that matters to me.
Hey mercel I was wondering I’ve you’d do a sketchbook/art tour I really love the art you make and Id love to see some more of it, and I bet other people feel the same!!
Marcel, you are an excellent teacher, I've learnt many things from you thank you! But you should make more of clothing anatomy, like when enormous wind comes along the character and more about the folds on it. ❤
the part about doing the big cons and being overshadowed is spot on, you'll probably do better at smaller cons and at smaller cons the costs (booth, hotels etc) will be much cheaper.
TYSMM for this video, I was super eager when I saw this video about publishing a book on my 'For you page'. I clicked this video expecting to learn how to publish my book, but the ending really changed my mindset. To those of you watching/reading the comment: PRESS THE FROGGIN' LIKE BUTTON TxT
One possible route is to have voice actors dub the chapters and uploading them as videos to RU-vid. I know it’s relatively popular for short webcomics such as those by Baalbuddy or Centurii, but I imagine it’s possible for longer works too so long as the video isn’t too long.
Hi 👋 Marcel thanks for ur guidance I really appreciate it. And the way u don't reveal ur face I don't care why because I really know that ur here to help and ur helping. Best of luck ❤
i think it would be really cool just to make a story and a world that people can read and just enjoy the experience, i want to make something that FEELS good to read. my art isn't nearly as good as it needs to be to do this, but you really have a way of convincing me to learn.
I'm afraid of both sides, publishing a manga that may or may not be accepted but then they make a few changes after all my hard work Self-publishing may sound good in terms of you being the one publishing it and you don't have anyone making changes to you if you publish it, but I'm afraid that no one will buy them
Now a days he is uploading videos very quickly like his last video came out 8 days ago I think the editer he hired for "dlas"channel is also helping him in this channel too well I love his videos ❤❤❤
I have buy the French version I got confused with the book cover, I thought it wasn't the same one😅, but in fact it's just the cover that's changed.I really like this tutorial book, it's even become my favorite. Very happy to read it in French merci beaucoup ❤️
