This video shows you how to pump up a tire with a hand tire pump. A hand tire pump is a very simple tool that you can use to pump air into the tires of your car or bicycle. To use a hand tire pump to pump air into a tire, first remove the tire valve cap by turning it counterclockwise. Next, put the Pump nozzle onto the air valve and press it down and then quickly lift up the lever to lock it into place. Next, put your feet on the bottom of the pump to stabilize it, and then use the handle to pump air into the tire. A good tire pump will have an air gauge on it, and you can look at the air gauge to see how much pressure is in the tire. The side of the tire will tell you the maximum tire pressure, but most tires work best with less air than the maximum, so check with your car manufacturer, or the tire manufacturer to find out exactly what the best tire pressure is. Usually for most cars, it is between 35 and 40 psi. When you have reached the desired pressure, push down the lever on the nozzle and pull it off of the tire valve, and then screw the cap back onto the air valve in a clockwise direction. This video will teach you how to use a tire pump. If you want to buy a tire pump with a gauge on it, here’s a link.

Most cars have a sticker (usually at the drivers door or on the fuel flap) that tells you what pressure you need to put in your wheels. It's usually a table with values for specific tire sizes

Instruction isn't clear. How can I put on the cap back?

Hand pumps are cheap and perfect for calibrating tires regularly at home. I've been doing it for ages. Also you get to do it with a totally cold tire as it's supposed to.

I agree. You just want to make sure you have one with an accurate pressure gauge.

People see me do this all the time and ask why. Because its better than paying $1.50 for air now. Yeah it takes effort, but its FREE

Charging for air should be a crime

@@wayne9005 You're being charged for the compressor equipment, not the air.

if you technically think about it your energy isnt free, that energy to pump up that tire is being taken from the food you have consumed which probably costed you money, now who knows if that amount of energy exceeds a dollar fifty though

And it’s a good arm or leg workout, depending on what kind of pump you have.
