I've always been told to do it exactly like how you are doing it with one exception. That would be to put corn meal in the water each time you drain and recycle with fresh water. I guess they will eat it and it helps them to poop more and basically purge the garbage from the river or lake and replace it with sweet corn meal. Just my opinion. Thanks for the video and information. Those are some nice looking craw fish and should be sweet as heck after purging the way you do. Thumbs up and God Bless
I like this way, my family is from Marksville LA We never used salt or cornmeal just a fresh water rinse to get surface dirt off then purge for at least 24. Choctaw/French
I always purge them over night with cornmeal and pepper. I know that the black pepper is an irritant to them and it causes them to expel alot of the poop in their vein, I change the water once before I go to bed and once the following morning, each time I add between a cup and 3 cups of cornmeal and 1-3 teaspoons of pepper. Around noon I start the boil and I always find that the veins are yellow and orange with black pepper specks. Its like seasoning them from the inside out! I read somewhere that they cannot digest cornmeal or black pepper so it wont turn to poop(Idk how true that part is but they taste better this way)
ERIC BACCAM Wow! I can't say that I've ever caught that many before. I'd say that you would probably need 2 coolers and 2 aerators but I'm not sure. let me know how it turns out!
Just get a fish tank oxygenator that fits the size of your cooler, you can even use a styrofoam cooler but get a big one. Don’t use tap water if it has chlorine or fluoride in it. Pop for bottle water
