You didn't allow any drainage - e.g. shingle (only to raise the height of the pole) Surely the pole will rot sitting in wet soil.

The tube is 450mm below the gound Lorraine, this is deep enough for any water collecting in the tube to filter through the ground. The pole should not be standing (or be surrounded by) any water at all.
