been 40 years since i was a kid and strung one of these. just bought two of these zebco's and was trying to remember how to restring them and i enjoyed your video. thumbs up!
Great instructional-video Sir! Yes, those AWESOME "33 Legends;" seems there's kinda like a dedicated lil community out there that swears by them, + make it into a lil club-like thing. And Matthew even LOOKS like a fisherman too! Bet he has tons of really interesting stuff all over the place within his little maintenance room as well.
If you are a Zebco enthusiast you can joint one of the several Zebco Facebook pages. There is a Zebco Collectors group. Zebco Fishing group. Zebco Shop and Swap group. The community seems to be growing all the time as fishermen discover the older high quality vintage reels and buy the newer high quality reels.
I need to put new line on my Zebco 202. It has the original line but I haven't used it in 25 years. I got the thing for my 9th birthday in 1972, definitely needs new line.
i learned a tip from an older gentleman to put olive oil on your line when spooling it and it keeps line twist and memory from being so bad and the olive oil doesn't bother the fish like other line treatment might so that's what i started doing and it works well for mono
Could you use JDM mono line in a spin cast? Like my 33 UL? Maybe 3 lb test; Fluro leader for trout magnets. Spinning reels are great, but in woody creeks, I use 4.5 foot UL rod with trout magnets. Actually, better precision casts.
Absolutely! The JDM is just a super high quality nylon monofilament. All monofilament is made from Nylon or an equivalent plastic. But I might stick with 6 pound test. Either that or be really cautious on how much 3 lb test you spool on the 33 Micro. For example, only put 60-70 yards on. One trick we used to always do with our spinning reels is fill about half the reel with 8 pound test (as a backer) and then tie the 4 pound test with blood knot and fill the spool the rest of the way. The reason why, is you don't want 200 yards on there that will allow the tight line you reel in to imbed in the spool when you put some pressure on the rod. Also, that way you aren't wasting money on a bunch of line you will never use.
Hey, I'm trying to fix my late great-grandpa's zebco 404, it hasn't been used in 20+ years. I replaced the line, but I cannot cast or reel in at all, and yet the reel can turn. Any ideas?
how can i contact you about fixing a zebco bullet for me , one of the pick up pins broke off and the handle shaft broke off i don't think the warranty still cover it
Make sure you loosen the "lock" screw on the side of the frame at least 1-2 turns first. Then give is a twist to the left about 3/8 of an inch. Will it turn a little? Often the reel gets grit and oil between the cap and frame and it gets stuck on. If it wiggles keep working it back and forth. If that doesn't work, put it in the freezer for a couple hours and try again. The freezer will "shrink" the frame a little and help loosen it up. A strap wrench can be used in really hard cases.
OutFishing13 I just got it! I’m trying to put it back on rn. It’s on but it won’t go on all the way. I think I can just pop it in tho. Thanks for the help, great vid! Edit: I just got it!
Not helpful. Tied the knot and put the line around the inside power of the round thing and start reeling but it isn’t spoiling. I need something more entry-level :(
