I would like to add my .02$. At 135 lbs. I have moderate difficulty doing this procedure. So if one wheel, (front, or back) is on a piece of 1x6 board, oh let’s say 12” long, the task is far easier. I keep a small piece of 1x lumber in my trunk for when I am out of the house, and a slightly longer piece in my garage parking spot. I mean it’s so simple now, any man or woman can do it! Again, thanks for sharing great tips and insights to our Goldwing community! JT

Good job. The biggest issue people struggle with is the fear of the bike falling over so they'll pull the bike toward them. It does help to have a little weight working for you but it's primarily technique.

I've been trying to do this for my dad ever since we got the bike. It takes both of us to get his bike on that center stand. And as a matter of fact, I just now tried it by myself and I'm pretty sure I need to go to the ER now because I blew my nuts out. Seems like there's something wrong with his, because I see and hear people doing it with ease and yet his GW won't budge.

I have more problem getting it off the center stand than I do getting it on. The wing is easier than our DL 1000 which weighs hundreds less. Honda has done a good job in engineering the GL 1800's center stand.

Yes, this is the best technique I have found also. Easier still was the two-stage stand on the Kawasaki Voyager XII. I'm not sure why Honda didn't use something similar on the new Wing. Easiest of all is pushing the button on my LT and let it put itself on the center-stand.

The 2018 is MUCH easier to get onto the stand. I think the stand may be shorter. A little tougher to get OFF the stand, but easy to get on.

Cruiseman's Garage I test rode a DCT Tour last week, but did not try the center stand. This is one area where 80 fewer pounds also might make a significant difference. The only bike I've ridden recently that had a full manual single stage center stand was a K1600 GTL rental. It wasn't too hard to get onto the center stand, but I weigh 230 which helps. I admit the EHCS on my LT is nice.

I'm so glad to have found this. I'm a first-time Goldwing owner having bought the newly redesigned 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT and its the first time I've ever had a center stand. I'm actually a little fearful of trying to put the bike on the center stand because I think I'm going to lose control and cause the bike to tip over. Your video gives me confidence to try it again. Thank you for this. I just need to ask if, when taking the bike off the center stand, should I have the parking brake set?

Don, no, you want the rear wheel to roll when it comes off the stand. I usually am sitting on my bike and rock it forward to take it off the stand. You can do it standing next to the bike, but you need to make sure you have the kickstand down and the handlebars turned slightly to the left (assuming you are on the left side of the bike).

Sitting on the bike to take it off the center stand is the secret sauce! :) Thank you.

@@mrdonsmith Try it any other way and over it'll go.

Rear tire is flat and it doesn't want to budge. Will this still work
@cruisemansgarage
@cruisemansgarage 6 лет назад
I have done it before, but it makes it more difficult. If your rear tire will hold air temporarily, might be easier to air it up long enough to put the bike on the stand.

Is the bike supposed to lean to the right when on the center stand? First time owner here of a 2006 and noticed it leans a little to the right and I see his here does the same...
@cruisemansgarage
@cruisemansgarage 5 лет назад
Not sure why the bike leans, but I have seen it on every Wing I have owned.

Who would thumb down a video like this? Must be some small-minded vindictive person out there.
