This video is the single most helpful video on RU-vid. Watched it once, spent two minutes setting up my hose, and it worked perfectly first try. Kudos sir, this is genius!
Thank you! My husband swears that you have to suck on the hose... When he was taking a nap, I used your method.. When he woke up, I told him that I got the pool to start siphoning... I told him that it tasted terrible.. He believed me!!!
I siphoned my pool this morning and had to suck the hose a little because some water escaped while dragging the hose around. Once all the air was out gravity did the rest.
I seriously feel so proud of myself for being able to do this 😂 summer has just finished in my part of the world and I let my kids pool go green because I had no idea how to drain it! Checking on that hose and seeing the water still running out of it is just awesome!! 😂💦 Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 😎🙏👍💜
Thank you! This easy trick saved my house from flooding tonight in California. Setup 3 siphons to drain the backyard to the front when the french drain couldn't handle the inflow from record rain. Almost came up over the slab, just barely saved the house.
I’ve been doing the same thing for years. But an even easier way is to charge the hose same as you did, except I put the one end in the pool then turn hose on. Once all the air is out of hose, disconnect the opposite end from spigot and lay it there. Siphon complete.
Vinh Trinh yes. The whole idea is to get all the air out of the hose. Once the water is flowing into the cover, turn off the spigot and disconnect the hose from the spigot. The siphon will begin to flow as you disconnect. Just be sure to not lift the hose higher than the point at which you're draining. I've done a similar thing when I didn't have a gas siphon or didn't want a mouth full of gasoline when I wanted to drain fuel from a gas tank. I would get a funnel and long piece of fuel line. Insert into tank, apply funnel and pour dry gas, carb cleaner or some other liquid fuel additive into the funneled fuel line. Once the line fills with liquid and you pull the funnel off and drop the line lower than the tank, fuel will begin to siphon out. Just make sure you have enough liquid to fill the full length of line completely otherwise all you will drain is only what you poured in and the siphon will stop.
We added an inflatable pool to our summer routine when the pandemic started. This video was invaluable last fall and again this year. I fully expect to return in 2022 when I've once again forgotten how to do this. Thank you so much!
Your video was a tremendous help to resolve a perplexing problem. Your method worked beautifully to remove water easily- without digging a trench. Thank you so much!
This hack saved me from emptying the pool at were I live and now I didn't have to do it in the scorching heat , so thank you so much cause you literally saved me
Thanks mate! Worked for me the second time. I found that once you charge it with water, it helps to cover the top of the hose with your thumb before you place the female end into the pool. This creates a vacuum like effect in the hose and ensure you hold the charge. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing!! I was able to successfully siphon the water out of my pool with a hose for the first time by watching your video! Now I'm a professional lol. My mom and I was both shocked it worked and it saved us some money. Thanks again!🙂🙌😉
Thank you so much for teaching us this trick. I have an old pump that doesn’t work well and my teenage boys were having a hard time draining all the extra water off the cover but once they watched your video it was easy as you said! Thank you again!
Yea turtle poop is definitely not good for ya.😂😂😂 Hope he's ok though. My father used to do this also every year when removing a the excess water from the pool cover.
You have quite possibly just saved my life!! We just drained our pool completely ready to clean, then impending rain forced us to put the cover back on, we've had so much rain, now our cover is full, I was imagining me with a wet and dry vac, inside the pool for days!! Thank you!
Thanks for this. I’m amazed at how easy it actually was to do. I mean it always looks so easy on RU-vid videos and then when you come to do it you have a total nightmare on your hands. Thanks chap, just saved me £50 odd for not buying an electric pump 👍🏼 🇬🇧
SO helpful! We had some torrential rains here in CA and this helped drain out all the water that collected own the pool cover (and hopefully will help prevent mosquitos too!)
Thank you thank you thank you. My spa and pool are on the same underground pipes. The spa has turned green but not the pool. Now I can easily siphon the water from the spa thanks to you... well done video. Simple and to the point with no fluff before or after...
I have never had to do this myself before. This video was so informative and it worked!! I had to do it twice since my hose came out of the pool but did it again and the water is coming out. Thanks for doing these types of videos.
This is amazing! I've been trying and trying to empty my swim spa and this fixed my problem in 1 minute. I know this was 5 years ago but thank you! Thank you so so much!
Heck yes 🙌 Thanks so much!! My ass was going to suck the hose until it started to flow the water out😆 I couldn't come to terms with that so you saved me a major icky hassle and money!! Keep doing what you do🙏❤
Awesome tip. So easy to do. Set it up and waited...nothing....thought bugga what did i do wrong...then out comes a trickle and then boom the flow...the glorious flow! Thanks heaps.
Thank you so much for this! I have a small inflatable pool and wanted to change out the water. Used this trick with multiple hoses and it drained in no time!
Thank you for this video I kind of thought what if I fill up the hose completely then siphon the pool, but until I saw your video I didn't think filling it up first would work...BUT IT DID WORK!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Saw this awhile back but didn't try it till today!! Yea!! It worked. I put two hoses in so maybe it won't take as long we shall see. Thanks so much for the quick video
This man is a GENIUS!!!!! I needed to drain my in-ground SPA. I am a female who didn't want to chance screwing something up on my pool system by moving a lot of "valves" to have the water drain into the pool. It took a few times to get the water flowing out of the hose, but it finally worked!!!!! SIMPLE & it DOES WORK!!!!
Thank you so much for your video. Your video saved me from wasting my time and money. I did just as you showed in your video and the rain water on my pool cover is almost gone now!
Thanks!! This works well. My trusty submersible pump passed away yesterday. I took a moment. I needed to drain a few trash cans I used to collect rain water. The pump, clearly, is much faster and I’ll need to replace it before I empty and clean the hot tub in a few months but this worked!!
You are the man! I was trying to relocate our basketball hoop and realized that the hoop has no drain plug! You literally would have to tip the entire hoop over (and it's very heavy) to try and drain the water from the top of the base...very stupid design. Anyway, I saw your video and it worked like a charm...45 minutes later I was able to move the hoop after siphoning out most of the water! Thank you for this video!
Great info! I have a small deck about to collapse under load and need to drain the water fast and this seems the fastest easiest way to start draining.
Great video. I’ve been trying for a couple hours, when I seen this video I thought there is now way it’s that easy. I was wrong it is that easy. Thanks for the video.
its even easier. all you have to do is submerge the hose underwater then cover the end you are going to pull out with your hand, then pull it out bring it bellow the surface of the water then uncover and gravity will do the rest. for maybe if you need to use a siphon without the faucet
I wish I had watched this the other day. My water pump motor wouldn't work after a huge rainstorm. I had rainwater filling up under my house in the crawlspace. I decided to try to siphon with a garden hose. I put one end in the water under the house and took the other end way down the hill. I started sucking on the hose but didn't think it was working then it surprised me and I got all that nasty water in my mouth and spray in my lungs. I thought I was going to get sick from all the bacteria in my mouth and lungs hoping that none of the sewer joints under the water had a leak. Luckily I didn't get sick. I'll do it your way from now on.
Thank you so much! I was really struggling to get a siphon going, this was the 3rd or 4th video I found and it worked first try! even with my stupid long 75 foot hose lol!
