Falney we all make mistakes, yours was minor and happens all the time in the art world. Don’t let it stop you from creating again or jumping back into it. I always shake my head whenever I hear people say using reference is cheating or wrong. You need to know what something looks like to be able to recreate it! It's just about how to use references, like tracing a reference image isn't good obviously.
@tzera_rhuon
@tzera_rhuon 4 года назад
Even tracing has it's place as a learning aid. When I was younger I would trace entire Vogue magazines. It helped in teaching anatomy, shading, posing, composition and fashion.
@lucassantossj
@lucassantossj 4 года назад
You can trace. Just don't show it as your art.
@candiedragon
@candiedragon 4 года назад
I feel that tracing is pretty good to train a habit for proper anatomy and proportions. A lot of my sketch practices involve roughly sketching over a picture just to get an idea of anatomy and proportions in different poses and perspectives, though just to clarify, I only trace a humanoid doll over the shape. I don't trace any details whatsoever; no eyes, mouth, nose, no clothes, just the shape of the person.

I've been participating in Inktober. Funny thing is, with only 3 months practice with my Wacom tablet at the time it began, and having resumed drawing after a 25 year hiatus (adulting and what not), that I still needed to get back into form from how rusty I was...I really didn't think I was ready for it. Like I should have had 6 months or more experience just to get to a competent level, never mind "excellence." I debated whether I would wait another year before taking part but then I just figured.... what the hell, I'll just do what I can. I started looking at it as an opportunity to guide my development, like an artistic "vitamin boost" to my creative growth. Now I'm SO glad I did, and with the community exchange in the Facebook group I joined, this has been the most rewarding experience.

I am currently studying in art in college, and To be fair my drawing and colours classes really helped me. We draw real life models, and sometimes for fun we are the model. I can nos see the differences between my old self drawing for fun on scrap paper compared to myself now becoming a real artist. In the past months i learned how to work with pastels, acrilyc painting, photoshop and I now ink my drawing. Inktober was interesting to do for me because I was scared of putting ink on my drawing, but now I can say that studying art is the best choice I did in my entire life. Your advices are really good, and you can really motivate others with those.

I’ve stopped many times at drawing due to many different reasons but when I started back up I got even better then how I use to be. When I was not drawing I was learning in other ways to get better and learn more about anatomy and others. I feel everyone progresses differently and some actually get better if they take a break and others by drawing every day. I have done both and have progressed in my art work both ways I personally am a bit slower now but I have gained new skills and tried new things I was to afraid to do in the past.

I took a year pause after my best friend was murdered. I hope I can start again, but since she was always admiring my drawings, it really drags me down to even pick up a pen. Do you think there's a way to overcome this issue, or should I just give up on drawing?
@izzyfrost647
@izzyfrost647 4 года назад
Circle of Justice I’m really sorry for your loss..... if you think about it this way, if your friend loved your drawings, she would want you to keep drawing. obviously it’s very simple for me to say that and it must be very difficult for you to put into practice, but I imagine if your art made the both of you happy, she wouldn’t want you to give up. grief counselling might also be beneficial to help you if you are able to access it.....I hope you can continue and find enjoyment in art again

@@izzyfrost647 Thanks for your response. Yes, it did bring us happiness, she was also an artist and we loved to exchange on the matter. She always admired my drawings, and now I can't bear the thought of looking at them, I had to throw my sketching book away because it was really dragging me down to even acknowledge its existence. I have wanted to see a therapist on the issue, but I have little trust in other people, I've always been judged and I'm scared it might happen again. Although they are professionals, that irrational fear is preventing me from taking an appointment. I always tried to do things on my own. Now I see that I can't, and my little pride is reacting in self pity. I was close to suicide a few weeks ago... Well, it's personal but I felt like putting it out there. Thanks for your kind words :) I can't promise that I'll ever pick up a pencil again, but it's worth hoping ❤️

Love your work and the brushes I've bought from you. You're definitely one of the artists who's art I've looked at thoroughly and learned a lot from. It didn't take long for my own style to emerge, now it just evolves and improves massively whenever I see another artist I like and study. Took me 2 years to get paid for my first commission, the journey hasn't been as structured as I would've liked but its getting more consistent. Making my own brushes is high on my list right now as I feel it contributes a lot to your own style as well.

@ericanthonyj 5 лет назад
Hey Alaisy! Super stoked to hear that you like my brushes :D How was it to work on your first commission ever? I was super stressed! Oh and I totally understand what you mean with the journey not being structured. Even today it's still a bit of a roller coaster ride for me but that keeps it exciting. Freelancing and working for yourself always has that touch to it but I'd never want to go back. I'm actually thinking about making a video on creating brushes. Maybe you'll get some useful info out of that :D

@@ericanthonyj Nerve racking for sure. It took me longer than I initially thought, and I made mistakes along the way that I never anticipated and had to correct. What went well was that I kept the client in the loop and showed regular work in progress snapshots. I'd love to see a video on brushes and your own take on them. One of my favorite types of brushes are the dual function brushes (Press softly and it blends, Press hard and it puts paint on the canvas.)

A sketch can take no more than a few minutes, or less! When I went to art school, one of my professors would urge us to go outside between classes and sketch a random subject, either a tree, a student walking by, whatever, as quickly as we could. Usually you would only have a few minutes anyway as you had to rush to the next class. But the point was to just whip out your sketchbook and get the most basic forms, flow lines, etc. There's always a way, even if you're just finding a few minutes here and there. Good luck on your journey!

Buy and use packs of copy paper and ballpoint pens(you won’t care if you mess up; it will also make you be looser with strokes). Put up the drawings you like on the wall(this will encourage you to keep going). If you’re using reference do not strive for a 1 to 1 copy(strive for likeness)
