Here is the process to release the gas filler door if it gets stuck on a 2005 BMW X3. I think mine was stuck by pressing on the door while the car was locked and caused the locking pin to jam. There was no way to free the door by pressing unlock or lock at that point. The only way is to find the gas door release cable inside of the vehicle.

Once you get it unstuck, you should be back to normal operation. I hope this helps somebody in a “jam” just like I was.
