So how do you quiet down a noisy class? One of the heart felt desires of any teacher is the ability to quiet down a class and to be able to refocus our students attention.
In this video I will share with you what I do to quiet down my class as well as to get my students' attention.
The main reason why teachers quit the profession is because of classroom management difficulties. Once that puzzle piece is figured out then teaching becomes a joy, but until then it is a battle that we must learn to overcome.
It is my goal with this channel to build a community where we can come together to share strategies, share stories, and build a support system.

I tried this today. I have a group of students that do not care at all about the rest of the class (they don't do homework anyway) or about the detentions

How did it go?

I understand correctly that the points you give yourself as a teacher are substracted from the students' points score?
@theclassroommanagementguy

Exactly. For example I started one of my classes by assign 6 points for the students but Siri g the period I assigned myself 2 points. So at the end of the period I put 4 points on the accumulated total.

I wonder how I could modify this to work for me as a substitute teacher?

That is a little tricky for secondary but for elementary you could reward the kids with a little bit more recess time or maybe something else at the end of the day

Would this be considered a negative discipline since you are deducting points from the students?

Yes and no. Originally I set it up as students would earn points through out the class period and I would mark it under students. But what I found out was that it was hard to stay on top of because so much was going on during the class. I then modified it to reflect students starting with 6 points and then I would get points if students were of task. The way I have it set up know I would say it is a negative discipline but that could be quickly reverted back to a positive reinforcement if wanted.
