Oh wow this is stunning. I am definitely going to look for fabric to make one of these. Thank you so much for sharing this video ❤

Breathtaking! I can imagine a gorgeous afterquilt (pieced back) using the scraps, too.

My first thought too when I saw how large those “scraps” were

Thank you Marie for teaching this technique. You explained the whole thing very clearly. I've always wanted to make this style of quilt. I will be referencing your video when I do. I just sent my daughter, who's in her 30's , a sewing machine. We live a few states between, so I can't teach her to sew. It would be nice if you could make a few videos for the beginner who knows nothing of sewing. Beautiful quilt. Thank you again.

Cheryl Ramirez, your daughter may benefit from watching the Missouri Star Quilt tutorials. Jenny Doan, the Missouri Star Quilt owner, is an awesome teacher, and she suggests simple shortcuts when possible. Also a quilter who tailors her tutorials to beginners is Jean Truelove. And if you enjoy the kaleidoscope quilt blocks, Jordan (spelling?) Fabrics also has a great two-part tutorial on them. They are also known as Stack and Whack. Good luck!

This is so clever! I'm going to get the pattern from your store! Love it and THANK YOU for doing these helpful tutorials!

ok I watched this - LOVE IT! I have a question - you say 8 pattern repeats - but when I did this on paper, 4 pattern repeats (in the stack) gives me 4 squares cut - which when I cut diagonally, gives me 8 triangles - so....am I cutting 8 repeat strips so that I can have 2 sets, or am I not understanding something?

I love this video, I went to your website and ordered some patterns, you also made this easy with no special rulers. only problem is the sound is low.

How many yards did you start with to get 8 repeats? Beautiful quilt!

Ignore the negative comments about wasting fabric, I appreciate the info! I don't have the patience or time to make the other kaleidoscope quilts. I don't mind leftover fabric as I am smart enough to research and find something cool to do with them! Never wasted!!! I didn't mind the music at all, but I can see if people have hearing issues or attention problems they'd be distracted or annoyed. I think you should find another cool fabric thats currently out and kinda ugly, lol, and do it again!! I bet you can turn ugly fabric into something beautiful! Call it a kaleidoscope!

Would it be possible to keep the 'star' shape and make a block out of that somehow without cutting it into a square? That is beautiful too! thx PS can you do anything with the pieces you've cut off too?

This quilt makes me think of snowflakes. I kept looking for two of the same block but like snowflakes, it seems that each block is an original. It would be nice if the fabric came in a blue and white print. Very nice tutorial. Thank-you for sharing. Would it be possible to make a miniature quilt from the scraps?

so you need to multiply the repeat by 8 to figure out the yardage?

This is very much like stack'n'whack. Although it is beautiful I find that there is far too much wasted fabric!!! However it certainly is a better method of cutting the original blocks. To me so much of the beauty is lost in cutting it down

Marian Lewis The waste can be used in a different quilt ; like a crumb quilt. So really you will be getting 2 quilts in the 1. Or 2 for the price of 1. However you want to look at it. It was my first thought when I saw the block after it was trimmed. Have an amazing day.
@skipclaiborne319

The video is very informative. You can always use your fabric in a scrap quilt. But it’s worth the waste.

I thought this was a great tutorial and didn't even notice the music till I read the comments and then went back to listen. I think people are a bit picky. You can use the cut pieces for other projects.

This would have been an amazing tutorial if she was putting the pieces together and sewing instead of rushing through. It is not clear that this would be an easy or a fun project. Great idea, pretty fabric...poor execution if the objective was to entice me to buy a kit...

Such a lovely quilt! Sadly, I couldn’t stick with the video because of the background music; it interferes with my ability to attend to the words and follow the narrative.

Marianne Dal Christensen, I didn't see this entire tutorial, but this technique can be used without much waste. Bits of fabric, and even thread can be collected for use in other projects so that nothing has to be wasted. If we use biodegradable materials, the problem of waste is solved.
@Luisancr
@Luisancr 7 лет назад
Marianne Dal Christensen she just made it the easy way, you can also cut triangles from each strip then your end shape would be an octagon and the trimming would get less fabric cut off

Marianne Dal Christensen I use the scrapes in scrappy projects. If u use ware soluble top and bottom you can make your own fabric for small projects
@tadeyishu
@tadeyishu 6 лет назад
I would agree with you, I didn't trim these into squares, I did them as octagons then put them on a background (as you would with a Dresden plate) that way I felt I was keeping more of the pattern and just trimming off the smallest amount, which then could of course be used up in a scrap quilt, or since they will all be identical make a very small kaleidoscope block if you have 56 main blocks then you will also have 56 mini blocks and almost zero wastage.....

The music is AWFUL. It is too loud, in addition to being just bad, and effectively distracts from what you are saying and showing.

Плохая операторская работа. Мало показывают работу с тканью, часто видны только руки, а не сам процесс работы с ткань. Огорчена и разочарована.

Please do next videos without the banging "music". Lovely blocks with sashing. Without sash would be chaotic and hard to sleep under. LOTS of scrap with this one. Enough for another quilt of triangles... maybe a geese pattern with blue or white sky.
