I have had a few Shibas over the years, along with other breeds. They absolutely do not respond well with negative discipline when around other dogs. Keeping a positive attitude is Critical above all else. Along with physical activity ('zoomies' are cute, but, can cause injury). I have had the Best results with positive reinforcement. Early social exposure is also encouraged. I do not take them to off leash parks as a rule. Not that I don't trust my dogs, it's others that are not properly socialized that pose a danger. My Shibas have all connected with me in a very deep way that I cannot explain in words. They are all different. Like people, very much. She is absolutely right about ignoring, or 'time outs' a Shiba when they do something wrong, it's magic. You do have to catch them 'in the act' so they understand behavior that is not acceptable. Shiba Screamers can get over their fear, but, it does take an enormous amount of patience and kindness. I just lost my best buddy Nikko of 15 years. I miss him terribly Having two others helps, but, he can never be replaced. 🦊♥️💞

Nice video!!! Quick question.. Why your Shiba coat color change so much? some video he is red and other video he's coat is cream.. Do there shiba coat color change due to the weather season ? for example... Shiba are darker coat color during winter and lighter during summer time

Hi Michael! No the color is all the same. It could be due to lighting, the videos clips are taken from different days and different weather/lights that could be why fur color looks different.

Is it too cold to walk my 3-4m puppy inu? She will get her rabies vaccine next week, but the weather in NY now is 30-50 c

Hi Je, Shiba Inu has double coat so should be well adapt to cold weather. We are in Seattle and I remember when Jimmy was young he plays in the snow for the first time and he loves it. You can observe your Shiba Inu's reaction when walking outside if she is shivering or acted cold then you can adjust but she should be fine.

Hello, we have our Shiba Inu since last Saturday, he is 14 months. He went to puppy school when he was with first owner. We still want him to go to dog school. This morning, I went walking with in the area where I live, suddenly there was a Bernard Sint, walking without leash and the owner walked behind his dog. This big dog came straight to my Shiva, tried to attack him, Shiva reaction was furious en tried to fight back. I pulled the leash of Shiva as high as I could to protect my dog. I don't want any dog bites him or he bites others. What should I do ? Was it right wat I just did? The school will start on august 22nd. Greeting From Netherlands. Any comments welcome. Thank you

Hi Christine, unfortunately there are still a lot of not responsible owners out there who do not leash their dogs. You should definitely protect your dog and fight back whoever's dog that's going to attack your dog. Depends on the situation, I would, first try to be as calm as you can(I know it is hard) because dog can sense if you are nervous or relax and they are always looking for cues from owner whether they should be concern or not. I would stand right in front of my dog and have my arms wide open like I am creating a barrier to signaling the other dog that he is entering our territory. You should always protect your dog and worst scenario maybe use pepper spray to scare the other dog off. If your dog gets into a fight with an unleashed dog, typically the liability will always be on the dog who has no leash. I am glad at least he didn't get attack and maybe you can get some idea from dog school as well.

@@TheYaya1971 is it actually not allowed? Because in Germany it's allowed but only when it's marketed as "animal defense spray". If it's marketed as "pepper spray" it falls under the weapon laws and you need a license to carry it :P That being said you could still use even the "pepper spray" in a self-defense situation, you would get fined for not having a license but not for using it if the situation required it...

Hi Ahmyaei, congrats on getting a new puppy next week! I don't recall my dog Jimmy requires any grooming when he was young but once they are more grown (over 6 months) they do shed during season changes so you will need to brush off excessive fur frequently. Good luck👍

Hello! I’m 11 year’s old and I’m a new dog owner and I’m gonna get a Shiba inu in a few months!I have done my research and I know what I’m getting in to😌✌️ but I have 3 siblings (8, 3 and a few months old baby) any tips how to introduce the pup to my siblings?

First of all, congratulations for the new puppy! When you first get the new puppy home there are many things puppy needs to get used to. You can place an old T Shirt of yours in his home so he get used to your scent sooner. i wouldn't too worry about introduce him to your siblings because all of you will be a part of new home experience for the puppy. I would, however, make sure you or parents monitor the interaction between puppy and 3 years or infant at all times because a dog is still an animal no matter how cute they are. Good luck and enjoy👍

Hi Tim, Jimmy has been using Kirkland dog food since he is young. We didn't use anything fancy. For puppy he was using this one - amzn.to/37nvolC Same brand also has adult food. He tried salmon and now is on turkey flavor. We occasionally give Jimmy some fruits and vegetables like cucumber, carrots, blueberries. Salmon is really good for the coat but unfortunately we suspect Jimmy is allergic to salmon. Daily exercise and moderate sun exposure also helps to maintain a good coat. 👍

Nope just dry food itself. If your dog doesn't have good appetite try to add a little cheese or un sweetened yogurt and mix them into the food. That normally would do the trick.
