I never thought of using the paper. I've used sharpie markers with shims though. Good info.

When desperate, I have used an old key and matched what pins I could. Then I filled down the longer ones flush. Sometimes I had to settle for 4 out of five, and leave a spring and pin out .

Your Sharpie should have been your follower!

Can I rekey a Schlage SmartLock at a Wal-Mart kiosk? And what type of screws go on it?
