A quick video of how we re painted our camper van using rust-oleum combicolor. We had previously roller painted our van but decided to spray this time around for a much better finish! Enjoy!
Ten out of ten for giving it a go. For the future reader who is willing to try spraying, just going for something like a DeVilbiss FLG spray gun at around £130 would make a big difference (proper good sized spray fan / better fluid controls & adjustability / lots of good newbie set up advice on YT). Sell it afterwards and there wouldn’t be much difference in cost compared to using a cheapo gun.
Good job well done. To anyone that hasn't sprayed before watch the video closely and note that the trigger is pulled to start spraying after the gun starts moving. Then is released before the gun stops moving at the other end of the pass. This is essential to avoid excess build up of paint and runs. Also overlap each pass by about 50% and keep the gun as square as possible to the surface. And most important. Get something to practice on first!!!
Cheers mate, it’s a 50L twin motor one can’t remember the name to be honest might be SDL rings a bell. To be honest I think mines overkill for what I did there I use it for work so already had it but smaller one would do the job just wouldn’t shut off whilst spraying I’d imagine
Thanks! In all honesty I think I was really lucky as I literally got 2 or 3 that’s it and they either blew off or literally wiped away when it dried without leaving a mark. Not ideal being outside but not everyone has access to a spray booth, I’d say just try and do it on a still day so the wind isn’t blowing bits and bugs into it
I think I have seen people use one of those cheap booths, like a camping or something and have the van or car inside. It's not the best, like a professional but it's cheaper, should keep away bugs and dust, atleast most of them. And spray during non windy day.... But agreed great work, these can cost over £7k
Seeing as you didn't clear coat it has the finish held for long once it got dirty and grit on up or does it absorb dirt etc can it easily be washed off or wiped off?
Also, I can imagine you painted your camper around a year ago? Can you tell us how good is the paint after a year? Any rust coming out etc? Or flakes? @@adventuresinchip5362
I didn’t sand in between coats, you definitely can but In all honesty I was spraying outside so it was never going to be professional job like it would of been if I’d send it away to a spray shop
