I've watched a lot of instructional videos on micrometers and this is by far the best. One small point though - I think you mean you can get more 'precise' micrometers, rather than more 'accurate.' In physics there is a significant difference between the two.

Thank you. We hired somebody recently who told us he had some experience but on the initial walk-through when we tried to test him he gave us the "my old shop was metric only" excuse. We hired him anyway but it turned out he had absolutely no experience. (He couldn't even get a consistent measurement with calipers. . . . I had to show him how to hold the dang things.) I bought some used metric measuring equipment so the next time someone gives us that excuse we can still have him/her prove it. I HATE LIARS! (He doesn't work for us anymore, we still gave him a chance but he crash a machine because he started it in the middle of a program after an incert change. . . . . He was still holding on to his excuse up till the bitter end.)

The easiest way to remember if you are 'on a mark' or not and which way to read, is easier found in the act of taking the actual measurement and spinning the thimble.. so if you are approaching 15mm, for example, you will see it approaching zero and counting backwards.. so pay attention to this while taking the measurement and if it stops before or after zero, you know if its over under.. seems like a 'duh' type of thing, but when learning/remembering, its the most important part.. 'not quite q5 or just over 15.. (using the arbitrary number I just used) so you can go oh.. its 15.2 or 14.9, etc.. (and naturally, just apply this to any other numbers on the thimble... you can actually do it 'backwards' sometimes depending on which is quicker collecting data for a measurement. so.. 1) thimble (less than or more than) 2) the barrell... 3) so you can say I am less than...(THEN read the barrel) ...so you can say okay its less than the number I'm gonna get off the barrel, look at those marks, get the value from the barrel and the. get your numbers.. Other times, do it the other way... barrel, then thimble.. these are ways you can always use or ones to help ya when you have those brain fog moments.. :) Then you'll get it down and wo t have to think Bouton it anymore. (especially when its (using his example scale now) number on the thimble like 33 or something. -- Important side note. LEARN THE PRESSURE NEEDED to make a proper meaurement (with any measuring tool for that matter) you don't want to go even a tiny bit too tight.. AND MAKE SURE YOU KEEP IT SQUARED UP, AND CLEAN.. even w/ only w/ 0.1mm precision (vs 0.01,etc..for an example) the SMALLEST stuff (some you may not even notice, can/will throw your measurements WAY off.. oh and keep them clean, don't drop them and don't use the extreme limits of the tool(s) even w/ something like a torque wrench, too.. Also CHECK CALIBRATION OFTEN! 😊 Take care everyone! great video!!
