Most of what you recommend I practice daily, and it's effective! I find my reading has become faster, without trying to read faster. One particular technique I learned myself and constantly remind myself of, is to just be in the moment with my book; when I focus on my book it's only me and my book that exists.

Oh that's great to hear! I agree with what you say about focussing on the book and nothing else. Sometimes that can be a struggle.

Having a written schedule is the most helpful for me. Time to time I look at the Pdf if I am rushing or behind the schedule. Also reading like this it allows you to read more. It creates time to read novellas or other books so you don't get bored or exhausted. Efficient reading tips.👏

I've ended up with similar practices which do work well! Thanks for sharing this video, as it made me reflect on my reading habits. I might add few notes on some of the points based on my experience: - Timer - this is extremely useful since not only as you've mentioned it helps concentrating, but also helps you to see how much time you've actually spent (especially if you use some time tracking app) vs how long it felt. This combines well with the habit point - Write - yes, I often feel intimidated by the fact I cannot keep all the characters and the intricacies of their relationships in my short-term memory, so each time someone share the same story, I feel slightly relieved - Audio combo - what a combo it is! When you find a great narrator and it so happens that he or she also narrated something from your to-read list, it doubles the motivation & pleasure. This experience of listening to an audiobook while following the lines before you also brings me a vague but warm feelings and memories when someone was reading to me when I was a child - Multiple books - goes well in combination with few other points about researching other periods and author, as reading non-fiction works on a relevant topic often produce sparkles of connections between the books for your mind to be fascinated by. Some areas of non-fiction, like popular science books on psychology or sociology, serve as good side dishes to any novel at hand

I had asked to be in your Les Mis bookclub and you had said sure, and then I got accepted at my university and started the summer semester. I have that book sitting on my nightstand with by bookmark IN IT! I feel so bad for not reading it. All the time just went "YEET!" But also, I love these tips. I find myself going to Netflix or RU-vid rabbit holes SO OFTEN instead of picking up another book. I've been doing that so much that I've been in a reading slump all YEAR. I do read multiple books at a time, but I think what I'm struggling with honestly is the fast reading and not letting myself get really absorbed into the story. It's like, because of this reading slump I'm too scared to let myself really dive in because I fear it will be another let down. I don't think non-readers understand how MUCH psychological torture and anxiety book reading is when you love it so much! 😂 This was a really long comment but I appreciate your videos so much and this was super helpful AND enlightening to me, so thank you so much! ❤

Hi Jenifer. First of all, congrats on getting accepted! Please, don't feel bad. :) You will get to reading it, I'm sure. I'm glad to hear that you found my tips useful. Thank you so much for your kind comment, this really makes my day. ❤Go and fight that reading slump, haha.

Another nice update, even if we have differens focus it is very interesting to hear your advice/tips. I got two piles of paperbacks (perhaps 20 of them) on my kitchen table , they are my "to read" piles this summer/autumn. I always have two paperbacks in my backpack, the one that I'm currently reading and the one I'm gonna read next. Been doing this for a couple of years now.

Hello! First time finding your channel and I really enjoy your videos... I have been struggling with war and peace for over a year. I read like 100 pages over 10 days and take 2 months break. I want to read it every day and be consistent, but I am in an Engineering college and after all the work when I sit down to read, I fall asleep within 2 pages. Do you have any tips for overcoming this? I would really like to read it...

Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by, I am glad you enjoy my content and I hope you'll stick around. :) I might have some advice, though I do not know your schedule. - Read before work/during lunch breaks - Try to discover where your free time is going and try to replace it with reading - Combine an audiobook with your copy and read along - Create a reading schedule that you think is manageable. For example: one chapter a day. I hope this helps!

I would love to join a real life book club. But people not reading the book would be my biggest fear and frustration. It's not quite the same, but when I've done Bible studies at church, it's a similar thing. There's usually some book or other printed material to go through. Everyone starts off all excited. But after some weeks, people start falling off. Pretty soon, I am the only dork who's got my lesson all filled out. It's happened over and over and over through the years. No one wants to put pressure on people and make them feel bad. So it's just let slide. But I'm to the point where... I'm the one who no longer has motivation to finish, because I know I'll be the only one. Sigh.

One of the most difficult challenges I face when setting up a bookclub is keeping readers going. Usually, we start with about 10 readers and eventually end with only a few. I think a lot of people find it hard to commit to something nowadays, with so much distraction everywhere. It's partly why I made this video, because everyone is always so excited to get started but a lot of them never finish.

Great tips! I think the most healthy/balanced attitude would be to appreciate the small percentage who do stick with it. (I am talking to myself, as well!)@@ProseAndPetticoats

Don't hold back and read multiple books! It helps me read more, because I can pick the book I'm in the mood for. I highly recommend trying this ♥️
