This is the most comprehensive guide to sheet music I've seen in my entire life. I can't believe how simple it is. This video just got you a like & subscribe sir.
Just wonderful, I have been researching "music notation for children" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Foonlant Dumbstruck Formula - (just google it ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to teach your child to read music notes without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got great results with it.
My parents got me a keyboard piano when I was 6, when I was 7 they got a divorce, I never got to play that piano again after that instead I was hype fixating over my new life of being shipped back and fourth week by week between parents... I finally at 26 got the urge to learn how to read sheet music, I had some small vague memories of my happier days learning the notes playing silly songs like nursey ryhmes. This video has not only made learning this very very easy, as well as bringing me happiness that I finally can learn a skill i've wanted to acquire but never had the support to. I no longer have that keyboard but played jingle bells on an online piano while watching your video and i've never felt more accomplished. Thank you so much!!!!!
I'm 42 and have never played or read music ever. But I've always wanted to learn piano but worried about reading music. Yours is the only one I've seen and it makes so much sense and is easy to follow and will get me past the opening hurdles in learning. Thank you so much!
hey ,if anyone else wants to discover play best piano online course try Jadonite Piano Player Buddy (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got great results with it.
Watching these kinds of videos reminds me of how truly far I have come as a musician. It's good to appreciate where I came from when I struggle with more complex concepts like chords and differing rhythms happening simultaneously. Great video for beginners!
A good tip is use your hands as references. Rigjt hand tremble, the fingers will be e g b d f and the spaces between f a c e. The same thing with the left hand with corresponding notes
Hi this is a nice tip. But will it be like Thumb- E Index finger- G Middle finger- B Ring finger- C And pinky finger- F Please do tell I am a beginner in piano And what about the spaces?
I have studied music about 10 years ago in school and forgotten most of it. this video was so comprehensive and brought it all back for me. very easy to understand so thank you!
Thank you sooo much for being extremely simple and clear. For years I have been trying to learn how to read notes and while some sites taught me how to, you are the first to simultaneously show me where they are located on the piano. Appreciated.
Clearly you didn't want to learn at school. That's the facts of the matter. You can't say they were unable to teach this in an entire year, that's on you, not them.
I forgot to put a credits at the end of this video. This lesson was brought to you by the supporters over on Patreon. Brian Fisher, Jim Soroka, and Ben. Learn more about our Patreon here: goo.gl/ShxxDK
Over 5 years of learning how to read sheet music in music class did nothing but a 22 minute video helped me learn more than I ever thought I could know
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm new at learning how to read music and how to play the piano. Your method is perfect for people like me, clueless about notes. Baby steps to later on, run a marathon 👌🏼. GREETINGS FROM JAPAN!
THANK YOU!! Of all the sites and schools ETC I have seen over the years, yours is THE ONE that tuned on a light! I finally understand music writing! And thanks for the web site tips!!
Awesome video. I know this is years old but I've been teaching myself piano over the past few weeks and while the books I have are helpful this is exactly what I needed to progress. I ended up using sticky notes and putting them on the left and right side of my keyboard with all the notes for the bass and treble clef respectively. Helped a ton! Thank you!
The worst thing about this is that I learned everything in French, so it’s not letters, it’s do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si. So now, I have to relearn everything in English. What letter corresponds to what note, what the lines and spaces are and when I find like oh okay that line is F, I have to translate it to French in my head. Ah yes, the struggles of being bilingual.

Have to say this is the best video for explaining basic theory on piano. Clarified where to play the middle c perfectly and how the notes are different on the bass clef. Please keep up the good work.
Hey students, I highly recommend you watch this lesson next for a technique on how to read music really fast. It is perfect to watch right after this one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xXfqEUcnDqM.html
I started playing the piano when I was 6, and so many people said I had talent, and I actually think I do, but I lost my inspiration to play, and ended up unsubscribing to your channel, and stopped practicing. I have seen that was the only thing I regretted doing in my life, now I'm going to dedicate myself, resubcribe, and to go back to learning how to read sheet music, thanks so much for the motivation, you give a great class!! I'm currently 16 years old btw. I plan on being a musician if everything goes in favor of it :)
Same but my parents never praised me and forced me to play. I ended up hating piano until I fell in love with music again and now I'm tryna learn how to read music sheets again😂😂
Same I started when I was young because my sister never played hers so I just got bored and took the keyboard Fast forward 4 years later I decided to try and take this seriously so here I am
I’m learning to play the piano and I wasn’t interested in learning how to read sheet music at all and I can’t believe how much I learned watching this video! Definitely will be learning now. You get a sub from me my man.
Thank you for posting these excellent tutorial vids! Your teaching methods are fantastic and so easy to understand. Yesterday I watched this video and realized just how easy reading sheet music can be. Priceless!
I haven't read sheets in YEARS! We just got a new piano in the house and I've been dying to teach our daughter to play, this will help her a lot to remember placement. You're awesome 🖤
@@AS-bq7sc And for us, it was "fruit". Clearly we were ahead of our time, health-wise. ;-) For the bass clef, we would use: "Good Boys Deserve Fruit Always", but that always seemed like cheating to me - too similar to the other one. It should have a unique one of its own, but I haven't thought of a good one so far. For some reason, I can usually remember that the middle line of the bass clef is D, and the middle line of the Treble Clef is B. I've just thought that the line and 2 spaces between the 2 staves is BCD - Before Christ, Dinosaurs. Or to remember it descending: DCB - Dinosaurs Came Back
This was very helpful, as a piano player we were always taught how to memorize the spaces using FACE AND ACEG (All Cows Eat Grass) but we were never taught how to memorize the actual lines, so this was very helpful to me!

I've had a brother that was playing in a philharmonic band, trumpet, and twice a week, sometimes more he would spend more than an hour just reading out loud with guidance the note sheets... It's no joke learning music. 😊 I used to know the basics, but forgot it completely... Now I want to play piano, will be starting from zero. This will be interesting... I know I should learn how to read sheets, if I want to play it properly... 😌 Wish me luck!!
Just started a monthly pledge for you. Next stop, I will be signing up for the online academy! Thank you so much for all your hard work, time, and resources in helping me and other like me. You are a saint my friend!
LessonsOnTheWeb oh geez I just realized that I think commented on the wrong video! I meant to put this comment on your patreon video. but you are very welcome and yes it has helped me immensely. As I mentioned in my email to you, I'm just starting out and just got my first digital piano last weekend. I was so overwhelmed that I was wondering if I was going to be able to do it but just in the five or six videos that I've seen of yours so far I'm feeling confident and energized with the knowledge that I will be able to learn how to play piano! Thank you so much Tim!
@Jacob Adams Hello there. Unfortunately I have not been active on my piano for the last year or so. I did purchase a lifetime membership to Tim's online academy and I learned a lot. The lessons and structure is great. But I hit a wall and lost motivation and have not been self-disciplined enough to keep going. But every time I look at my pianos I feel guilty so I do plan to start up again. I will probably supplement my online lessons with some in-person lessons as well. I'm hoping by checking in with a local teacher every week or so it will help me stay on track.
This is THE ONLY GREAT video to learn how to read music! I watched several and I was turn off, people speaks so fast, and like learning another language the teacher needs to speak calmly like this teacher, I can not BELIEVE I got it, thank you for speaking patiently and like for babies 😊now thanks to this video I am excited again!
@@redacted__ I got one yesterday too! What songs are you into on piano? I’m learning gymnopedie no. 1 at the moment and some of the interstellar theme song. Good luck to you as well and never stop playing!
nothing wrong with that at all but I suggest setting aside a specific set time for practice, and whatever time you have leftover to spare use for enjoying the fruits. since doing this my drumming technique has improved substantially. have fun! i also always set aside break days for just doing whatever feels right on the kit
this is the best and most to the point video i could find on the topic ! if u used to read music as a kid and forgot how to somewhere along the lines this is the perfect video to watch ! most likely you will in fact remember how to read music completely ( basics and scales , still gonna need to brush up on your accents ) from this one lesson (:
Here in the UK it was standard practice in the 1990s to give recorders to schoolchildren for free and give them some basic music lessons once a week, which included learning how to read basic sheet music. I’m not sure if schools still do it anymore. But I’m 35 now, I play piano and I’m eternally grateful that the 6-year-old me was taught to read music from an early age. I had piano lessons when I was a teenager and it was so much easier to learn the more advanced sheet music given that I’d already been taught a basic understanding of it.
Ive been playing piano for many years, and the best thing I learned with reading notes and works for both the lines and spaces intervals. Both the lines and spaces always rotate in this order F-A-C-E-G-B-D and it repeats itself. It saved me time memorizing words, phrases. Example: for lines on treble clef starting with lower line it goes E-G-B-D-F next line above is A, next line above is C, then it repeats back to E for the next line above. Makes it easier for doing/identifying notes above and below the actual drawn staff paper lines and spaces.
I did keyboards for two years in primary learning to read music notes using do re mi fa so la si. Decided to try it again after 30 years.....this is a complete reset.
for somereason, this video is like years old but i found it and its so helpful! none of the other videos i have been using have made me understand except yours! thank you so much.
think of the ledger lines like an extension of the staff, all the same principles apply - steps, skips, move up, down, etc - it's all the same, the lines are just shorter! :)
i know this was a for reading sheet music, but the circle of fifths just suddenly clicked in my mind after an embarrassingly long amount of time thanks to this. thanks to you. thank you.
wow I'm delighted.because only you have showed the notes not only in sheet but also in piano as well. no w it's pretty clear for me to understand the base cleft too.
Incredible. Sheet music has always seemed like the most difficult thing in the entire world to me. I can't believe how simple and smoothly you've taught me this. It is so weird. You're truly incredible. It was strangely fun and calm watching this too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Treble clef reminds me of a pneumonic device I learned in elementary school, "EGBDF are the names of the lines on the treble clef, F-A-C-E, the spaces are easy"
I took piano lessons when I was 8, for a year if that, I basically remembered the keys I didnt read the music, so I couldn't play anything new. The things I did remember being taught didnt correlate to anything and basically rendered useless. So thank you for helping me read and properly learn the basics, 20 years later I got a free square grand piano that sounds great for its age, and even tho they recommend not playing them, it was free, and I want to be able to play it every once in a while, also getting a baby grand in a week so dont worry the antique wont be abused.
hey man, GREAT tutorial. I completely understood the concept without having to visit any other videos. One thing you might check and repair in your video is how your subtitles don't match with your words. Beside that, everything was awsome
For years, I mused over the album title of the Moody Blues record, "Every good boy deserves favour." Now, I realize it was a memory cue used by Brits for the treble staff lines. Cool.
I'm going too start piano lessons soon, so i wanted to learn a little bit of useful information about sheet music, this really helped. I appreciate it.
thanks mate, got set to complete a quiz on sheet music for online class and was clueless but now i understand perfectly! thanks for making my life a little easier!
My favorite thing about how sheet music is standardized is that the end of the line on the note is also on the note. For example, if you put a note on the bottom line, E, the bar of the note goes to the E in FACE. Well, for the main notes.
Such a great informative video! needed a refresher video for reading music instead of being lazy and watching the synthesia style tutorials which really don't help with learning! I'm determined this year to put more effort in to the theory side and my reading I will defo check your website out for the excercises you mentioned. Thanks again 🤓👍🎹
Very much agree with you. Those synthesis styled videos are just silly and don't actually teach you what your doing and how to do it. his videos are very straight forward and on point.
OMG THANK U SO MUCH!!! I grew up learning by synthesias and those piano tutorials, i never read the sheet music becaus ei thought itwas so complicatdd but this vid made me realize that its so simple tysm
I was trying to find notes for Chaconne but all I could find was music sheets. This helped me a lot to find the notes and translate them to the Virtual Piano (which is Q keyboard letters). Thanks a lot.
This is just great. Fantastic. One small observation, when you say it´s five notes away, it´s actually only four. Your are counting the note where you are at as the first note away.
You can also remember each half space you go up a letter. Bottom is e; the space above f; line above g; space above a then b, c, d, e and f again. With understanding and pneumonics together, we will be unstoppable!
I had to pay $3.00 an hour back in the 60's to get this SAME lesson that young musicians can get from people like this who care about the musicians of the world. Not many young "musicians" today have any knowledge of music structure. The money my parents paid back then in the 60's was considered a lot of cash for a mid class family. Those lessons were rendered by the little old lady down the street from my house. Thank God for her too.
