You're a fantastic teacher. You know exactly what things are necessary for the students to learn and you go straight to that cutting all the cheese. Thank you so much for sharing your teachings with us.

That's the best lesson, really. All the other ones I watched just assume you actually already know something about music notation, that you can never start from level 0. Finally, omfg. Was it that difficult to just explain the notes while beating a pen? Why didn't anyone else manage to do it???

What videos are you watching? Because I already KNOW a lot about sheet music and all the names of notes and stuff I need someone to teach me how to read sheet music for guitar in a way I can understand 😭😭

14:43 Very well done. Keep up the good work. The only suggestion I would have would be for you to have drawn blank tab lines on the sheet music underneath the standard notation lines, then you could have drawn in the tab notes for each of the notes you discussed in the standard notation. I think that would have really cemented the concepts you just illustrated for your viewers. Keep making the videos. You explain concepts very well and in a simple fashion that beginners can understand. 😊

Sir, I saw a bunch of videos on this topic and it’s safe for me to say that your video and your way of explaining has been by FAR the most informative and simply the best! Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate - this video is very useful! Thank you for that! Cheers

Thank you so much for this lesson! I really liked that you are showing on your tablet in real time, whilst also seeing you. It just made it easier to understand somehow. I know it took you a lot of time editing, thank you for that.

That’s was awesome. The only thing I can think of to add would be a way to practice reading music to reinforce the lesson. Apps to use or even a few songs that are easy to read from sheet music. Great video though. Thanks.

you should explain time signatures before the quarter and half note stuff. it is not exactly true that quarter note is 1 beat. it depends on the time signature.

Thanks for the video! What do you do with something like piano sheet music, which includes the bass clef? Do you like to pick and choose notes and positions based on what sounds best? Or do you have another method of choosing where to play notes in arrangements? Thanks!
@sungminleeguitars
@sungminleeguitars 3 года назад
That’s what I would do! For arranging music from other instruments, you might also have to change the key so that it fits the guitar better or you’ll end up having to play a bunch of barres haha!

What's the little "4" with the circle around it (under the D in the second bar)? Same place - I assume I play the D and the F# at the same time. Why is there a rest between those notes, and what do I do with it?
@flumpaustin1994
@flumpaustin1994 Год назад
The numbers in circles tell you which string to play the note on for practicality. There is a rest between the D and F# because there are three lines of music in that bar to create three different voicings. It looks more complicated than is but that rest doesn't really relate to the D and F#, it relates to the B (a quaver/1/8th note) as you'd need 6 of these to fill the bar they write a 1/8th rest to fill in the gap. The notes in the bar are all played at: 1, +, 2, +, 3, +. So, when you play this bar you play the D and F# at the same time then the B, whilst the D and F# ring on because they are worth more. You're basically treating them all as quavers except the higher value D and F# notes ring on.

@paulcrawford5153

the last comment about a sharp not in the key signature..... is it not that it is meant to apply not for the whole rest of the piece but only the whole rest of the bar? i am unsure.. i thought it was the latter

I think the time signature and notation could have been clearer and may confuse a total novice. The bar, semibreves, minims, crotchets, Quavers and semi quavers, perhaps a quick sight read using the notes. Great job though Thanks.

Tab does offer a lot of information. Most tab these days includes Rhythm, technique, accents etc. It pretty much offers everything that sheet music does but instead of having the notes layed out on the stave it adopts the guitar fretboard. Reading notation is extremely helpful for understanding the piece and transcribing it to different keys or instruments. It's all dependent on the quality of tab I guess but most sources I know these days feature what I mentioned about
@tonymccormick21
@tonymccormick21 Год назад
Totally agree. Most tab is professional. You can meet tab at the other end of the scale, but it can be really really good

Yes but it’s important to learn the basics of music theory. So in the future you can decide which way is better for you

I have been reading music since 1984. I find it very essential to be able to read music. First time I picked up a guitar was in 1974. For the first 10 years I didn’t hardly learn anything could not play by ear therefore I almost quit. But I had learned how to finger pic prior to reading music. But I was just not getting anywhere. I’ve been reading music now for over 40 years. I love it. I can play anything I want or that they have in style guitar music. I am on my Solo instrumental guitarist today and love it. I wouldn’t take nothing for my hobby. My advice to new guitar players is learn how to read music you’ll go a long way and quit taking shortcuts great video young man you have my total blessing there’s nothing like reading music. Have a great day.👍👍🎼🎵🎶🎸👍👍☮️

Ok I’m just beginning the episode, by the first 48 seconds I assume this is going to solve my problem (I can read TAB but sheet music confuses me so much but I really wanna be able to read / play real songs..!!) so I’ll edit if it really did help but I won’t if it didn’t help.

Thanks for the intro. I always had problems thinking of the notes on the ledger lines above and below the treble staff lines. But there is a “face” acronym below and above the staff lines that defines the notes on those ledger lines as well as in the spaces in between the staff lines.

What S-gt mean at the start of the staff ? E-gt stands for eletric guitar. And n. Guit. Probably for nylon. But what about S-gt?
