Do you have an Arad pulse water meter and wondered how the pulse rate works, or how to read it properly with all the different dials? Watch here and after 90 seconds it should be clearer as to how to
read and understand the number of litres flowing through the meter for every pulse.
Hi, I'm Larry from CWC. Today I'm going to explain to you how to read the pulse rate of a pulse water meter.
So in front of me, I have an arad water meter, which is very similar to any other brand. In the face of the meter is the pulse cable, which I'm actually going to remove for purposes of this demonstration. As you can see, where I removed the pulse cable, it's situated next to the leftmost red dial. Now what happens is when that red dial rotates the water meter outputs one pulse. So how do we work out how many litres per pulse is generated from this water meter?
Well, firstly, most water meters have an odometer reading, which is in cubic meters, which is the same as kilolitres, which is 1000 litres. And each dial has a range, which is also in cubic meters. So on the right-hand side is 0.01, centre is 0.001 and left-hand side is 0.0001, which means that every gradient on that dial is a hundred mils. So it's 1, 2, 3 which translates to 100, 200, 300 and so on and when it's completed one revolution, it means that the water meter has output one pulse, which means one pulse per litre. If the pulse cable was on the centre dial it could be one pulse per 10 litre, and on the right one pulse per 100 litre.

Dear Larry, thank you for your video which is very interesting. Do you have any idea about pulse output cable, two wires signals & how must be connected

Most contact head water meters, i.e. magnet and reed switch arrangement, have a 2 wire output which consists of a Normally Open volt free contact, which momentarily closes when the magnet rotates past the reed switch, i.e. pulse. This pulse is a set rate as per the video, e.g. 1 Pulse per Litre, or 1 Pulse per 10 Litres
