For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ Ok - so I think normally when I do videos on this, I kind of over do the thing....So - actually. I think SMALL steps are the way forward for actually building more knowledge of scales etc. If you're thinking you're stuck playing pentatonic box stuff - here's how I think you can start to practically break out of that and move towards the sorts of phrases that you see Mateus Asato, Eric Johnson etc doing often.
/ johnnathancordy get my backing tracks and lessons here.

Get my PADs bundle here: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... (this folder will grow, and I'd encourage you to ask for different keys/songs and stuff that might suit this type of preset?)
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
Try my general patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...

I've seen the John Mayer pentatonic "equator" clip before (minor below, major above) but it never really clicked until you explained it there with the relative minor. So simple! Thanks again!

The question is not wheather it was helpful. It is. The question is wheather you accept your role as an eternal repetitive patient lesson presenter (not to say a teacher). To get the lesson repitions not boring you spice them up with variations which I like. So, I would like to see a repition of not only playing three notes per string as triplets, but spread them to other measures as well. You already mentioned this, but it was not the focus in that vid. An 80bpm click and an underlaying (FM3, thanks for that. Don't forget your FAS fools) freeze tone would be nice.

Brilliant lesson! I think one of the best thing to do to break out of the box is listen to other types of music. So many people are stuck in this blues/rock mode, they forget to open their ears to other styles, and then try to incorporate that into their own playing. The other thing to is to learn to play around the chord changes. If you break a 12 bar blues progression down, you have so many non-box options to use around the chord changes and turnarounds. Thanks for a great reminder to us all. Awesome video.

Last week I sold my VOX AC15HW1X, my Helix LT, a Greenback speaker, a THD load box, all for 2300 euros. I still have here an Orange rocker 15 terror head, which I may end up selling because I do not use it much, a cab Orange PPC212 that sounds spectacular and with the 2300 euros I bought the Fractal FM9 turbo. At present, my sound is with the FM9 and the Orange cab, the sound is so good, that I think sooner or later I will sell my 15 terror rocker. In conclusion, now I have, two guitars, an orange rocker 15, the cab PPC212 and the FM9 and I think having the FM9, it does not make sense to keep the Orange rocker 15. So....I´m happy, excelent sound, small amount of gear. And I don't have that feeling of accumulating gear unnecessarily. Ah! and of course, thanks to the FM9 and my low effects needs, I don't need to look at the effect pedal section either. I think we all go through the same stages in our life as a musician. Experimentation: Where you buy most of your gear and are in a spiral of almost continuous buying and selling and...then comes another period in which you get bored of so much buying and selling gear and decide to stop and keep what is really important, necessary and practical.

I get the vibe its a very shawn lane way of playing in that u can link up many notes of the 2 boxes in sort of 1 postion of playing and then throw in groupings and of course phrasing and it truly unlocks your vocabulary and how you want to express yourself while playing!! This just unlocked something in my brain thanks!

Brilliant! This is the best “beyond” idea I’ve seen. Trust the idea is then to go position 2 to 3 then 1 to 5 and kinda meet in the middle or somewhere ;-). Thanks!!!

Would love to see more videos on this specific theme expanding on the idea of moving out. I took the box shifts idea and went on first two strings up all 5 patterns, then next two strings etc. just thought I’d share that as another way of extending to all 😝

Lol sorry!!! Umm if you let me know how to measure pickup height I can try. Worth knowing that these are Lollar Dirty Blondes with the flat pole (non staggered)

I understand the relative minor but why is it that shape 1 works in the major and the relative minor but if it’s written in a minor shape 1 only works in the minor key and not in the major

Looks about like typical Fender standard height specs to me. Strat pickups generally aren’t very high above the pickguard.

Start by not learning the P scale. It's the cause of a lot of fast, boring solos. Learn good melodies instead from classical and pop music.
