yeh baby taps do the job , i do like that flexplate holding tool and the explanation re the spring insinde the seal. seen the puny stretch bolts on the 3.8 v6 motors man it amazes me they dont snap when the flexplate is under serious load, without dowel pins i think theyed definitely do the dissapearing act.
Another method for removing these seals is to take a sharp razor blade and cut a notch in the rubber sleeve that slides over the crankshaft. Then you can fit a small flathead screw driver into the notch and leverage the seal ring out. If you get the right leverage and tension the whole seal will just pop right out. Use a dab of tape over the end of the screw driver to prevent scratching of the crankshaft surface. Seen this method recommended in the Toyota service manuals.
Hello, I’ve seen a couple of your vids including this and the tail shaft centre bearing replacement. I want to learn/help fix mine, as it needs replacing. I was wandering is it possible to pay and help get it fixed? Ive been told that one of the jobs can take 8 days, but that’s too long as I need it for work.. it’s making me want to just get rid of it and buy a new car in that circumstance, but if I can do it quicker, I’ll keep it..
uh... actually some seals go in dry dude... this one probably doesn't but nowdays i never lube the outside, actually he put the outside in wet... that is a serious no no on new cars. The tap method is not good either. use a seal installer tool. i make them out of cheap pipe from the home improvement store. Its a big risk just tapping...
@@autochronicles8667 That is correct..my '97 chevy 350 is this way fel-pro specified install dry and I was able to use the old seal to seat the new one in.
The only reason I can think of is that they recommend sealer on the bolts for the flex plate to crank . I have a new ARP bolt set for a AU V8 im doing ATM and it has the sealer Included. But if it hasn't leaked happy days!.
Did you took off the engine or gearbox completely? I got a kia picanto automatic.. Oil leak from Rear crankshaft oil seal.. Is it difficult to change on automatic cars.. I want to take it to the garage
hi, most often easier to remove trans and replace rear main seal. choice is usually yours to make though and depends on your skillset and tools & equipment. cheers
