Man, it was a hard day pulling the Flatty. I adore these engines. But the good news is the 8BA is going into my buddy's traditional Model A rod this year
Which rebuild kit are you using? If it's from Shoebox Central they have a great guide they provide. I will say, this carb is incredibly simple so you should have no problem rebuilding it if it's in decent shape. Good luck Tom!
So, it's an Oil Bath Air Cleaner. While there is some amount of oil that gets into the filter material, the biggest way it actually filters incoming air is through sharp changes in direction of air from the inlet to the carburetor. particulate matter is cast from the incoming air stream as it makes the directional transition. This transition occurs just above the level of the oil and the larger particulate matter is cast from the air stream and into the oil where it is retained in suspension.
@@DadModsMedia, in a lot of ways the design is still used today albeit slightly modified based on application. Utilizing centrifugal forces to separate particulate matter from the airstream, which is basically what is happening during that direction change inside the oil bath air cleaner. We see the use of this in particle separators on turbine powered military helicopters, even most modern bagless vacuum cleaners. An oil bath aircleaner reslly shines in very dusty environments and you can still find them in use on trucks and heavy equipment and are just as good as if not better than most paper elements at removing more dirt and dust from the air.
So you have one guy standing doing nothing at the beginning with the camera positioned across the shop, could it maybe have been in his hand or does he shake alot? There was zero rebuild detail. Just some loose chatter and no close up details of an actual rebuild.
@@MPerly $50 or so at most. There's a million of them out there so they're not rare at all. If you do an at home rebuild it it may be work like a hundred to $120. If you have it media blasted, fully recoated, fully rebuilt, and fully tested with documentation it could go for about $300
