How to rebuild a Pingel petcock

I had a Pingel petcock that was leaking from years of use. I thought it was time to rebuild it and I ordered a rebuild kit which to my surprise came with no instructions as to how to perform such task. I did some web searching and the only thing I found was an option to send it to the manufacture so they can rebuild it for a fee. I did not bother to ask how much since I had already purchased the rebuild kit. I did some figuring out and made a video to try and help others which might be in the same situation.

Thank you for watching.

Definitely a great video as far as the visual for the inside working parts especially when it comes time for reassembly. But you could simplify it a little bit by cushioning the big part of the valve in the vise with cardboard or rag and doing everything like that instead of trying to hold the little part of the valve. Not criticizing just adding a step to make a little easier but it's always more than one way to skin a cat. The video definitely helped me because I couldn't find anything on these valves either and the visual was the most help ful part thanks bro.

Awesome video Bro. You motivated the hell out of me. I just bought the same petcock, installed it, filled up my tank, attempted to start my bike and nothing. The valve was facing the wrong direction and the orifices were completely obstructed not allowing fuel to leave the fuel tank. I watched your awesome DIY video, removed the thumb handle, spun the valve around in the correct position and reinstalled the thumb handle. I can see orifices in the fuel outlet nipple that I couldn't see before. I originally thought someone on the production line forgot to drill the orifices. Where in the hell is the QC at Pingel? This is the second defective Pingel petcock that I have purchased. I'm really starting to wonder about that company. Thanks again Bro for the kick ass video.

Just take it apart and replace the O-rings, that's pretty much the only thing that wears out.

This is great thankyou. Mine has been smooth but tight to turn for years but suddenly feels a lot loser to turn. It still has some resistance but it's a lot loser than before. It looks like new o-rings would tighten it back up again?

Good video. I'm going to replace my stock petcock, but I'm confused. My FLHR is a vacuum petcock and I'm wondering how a Pingel would even work as it looks like gravity fed.
@dosdeuno
@dosdeuno 3 месяца назад
Thank you. They work just like you said, gravity. It is supposed to flow higher volume. On your bike, you will have to plug the vacuum port.

Nice tutorial man. Too bad a pingel petcock rebuild kit is so ridiculously overpriced. $100.00 for some o rings, screen, loctite and fricken toothpicks is crazy especially when you consider that the most inexpensive pingel petcock is $120.00 per their MSRP. Yea they are excellent petcocks but the rebuild kit is near the cost of just replacing the whole thing! Pingel will rebuild it for more than the original cost of your petcock so that also a crap option. Also, for what you pay for the rebuild kit no included instructions is more ridiculousness from Pingel it’s insulting!

Eventually, you will need to rebuild any moving component that is sealed with rubber. These are used for high fuel delivery demand applications, such as high performance engines.
