Wow, that was an excellent video. Restoring a 1-owner unrestored unmolested albeit super cruddy 1981 KZ1000 Ltd here in WA state. vac petcock looks good. I'll inspect, clean and hopefully reinstall as is. Thanks for the inspiration and keep on trucking !. (subscribed)
Thank you! The very last thing I did on my 17 year rebuild project.....was to rebuild the petcock on my'78 Yamaha SR500E. The Yamaha parts fische and Clymers manual did not show the vacuum assembly and I was not sure how to rebuild it. Your video made it easy.
Should I clean off the gasket diaphragm mine just has the one that goes on it. I have a 95 Yamaha Virago 535 with the solenoid valve on it. I cleaned mine off then sprayed it with some silicone spray to help keep it on better for rebuilding it. Is that ok? Or should I clean it with just gas or carb spray. Thanks!!!!
Great video. I have the condition you discussed where fuel is flowing while the engine is not running. Looks like my vacuum diaphragm is not sealing. Rebuilding the unit now.
Hey just got 2 new bikes and I am a mechanic but I'm new to bikes. I have a bike that sat for 10 years, 05 shadow. Got it running finally by removing the black bladder inside the petcock and just seeing if that would work. It did. So I've looked everything over and replaced the vacuum lines, I do have vacuum but I don't see why the valve is t working with bladder. It looks brand new still soft and no holes
didn't show the diagnosis to my problem... my 77 GS550 has a hole in the middle of the diaphragm. I need to know if this whole corresponds with the air inlet on the back of the petcock. or if it should straddle in some way?
What do you do when there is no rebuild kit or suitable replacement? I have a 06 E-Ton Vector 250 with a petcock that has a really bad leak on the vacuum side. I tried looking on different sites but they don't make the petcocks anymore and there aren't any rebuild kits for it.
Nice video but I would like to add that the vacuum petcock is very problematic and has flooded many a crankcases/airboxes...I've heard of them flooding at as little as 5 hundred miles.
Does anyone know where I can get a gasket that goes between the black plates of that diaphragm? I’m taking about the whitish looking square gasket. All these rebuild kits only come with the diaphragm, not the gasket, and the gasket I have is currently the issue because it’s worn out and has a hole where fuels clearly squirting out of!
Hey man. I need help. I just bught a DR650R 1995 and it has a leaking fuel tap on it. I just ordered a rebuild kit but it will take 2 weeks to arrive. I want to fix my petcock earlier. My problem is that it's constantly dripping little drips out of it on "ON" and "RES" positions. What do I need to replace exactly to stop this problem ? Thanks!!!
Thank you I think my diaphragms are worn out and allowing fuel to leak out of the sides of my fuel petcock on my bike. I know I'm leaking fuel, just not 100% sure what needs fixed and from this video I am thinking I need a rebuild kit.
Heres a question, the new ring gasket, that sits between the tank and the petcock, keeps popping out of its groove? How do I stop that from happening? Just clamp in down into place and let it sit for a week, or do I use some sort of adhesive, or am I just supposed to be stupid quick with it and hope it doesn't pop out when I try to fit it on?
I have the same style petcock as in 6:47, without vacuum operation. The problem I have is that it will pass gas to the carb directly as I pour it into the tank even with the petcock set in off position. I took it apart and checked it, even made a new gasket out of cork but it still will just flow gas through it as before. What could be the cause of this? I noticed that in the bowl underneath where the net is there is a small gap between the net and the middle pole, could this be the cause of the problem? Just to clearify, I've only checked this with the bike not running, don't want to try and start it when it seems that the carb is getting flooded. I never put in much fuel, just a little so I could empty it easily. Any ideas on what to check or do? I want to get a new petcock but it's hard when I ain't sure of the exact size and no shops nearby that sell bike parts. You mentioned that if the float or needle in carb is failing this could happen, but does that happen even when the petcock is in off position? It seems my petcock isn't serving any purpouse at all since the gas just passes straight through it.
@@wunowun7792 Hi there, Yeah I manage to get it running and working sort off. I managed to get the petcock sealed with a new gasket made out of a wine bottle Cork. I checked the carburetor carefully to see that It was working and I not This that it will Shut off the fuel so Actually the need of a Pad cock Isn't that important When it comes to getting the bike running how ever I'm still looking for a new Pat cock so I can turn it on and off whenever needed Beds so far I haven't been able to find one in the right size
@@LUNARIAproject awesome that’s good news, I appreciate the reply. I just had an idea while I woke up and was thinking about the problem, I think im gonna try to use this flex seal spray I have to “rebuild” the vacuum gasket and other gaskets that have degraded hopefully it works. If that doesn’t work I might just convert my vacuum switch to a manual switch using a video by a user named “Ken’s garage”. It pretty much turns the prime button into an off button
@@LUNARIAproject so I’m fully awake now and realized that probably isn’t the best idea considering I don’t know how the flexseal will react with gasoline so what I just did was order a generic petcock rebuild kit that looks compatible with mine so we shall see 🤞 I really want to get her running but I’ll be patient
@@wunowun7792 that sounds good, I'm really Not good at working on bikes or Motors at all but Lucky Lee there's always RU-vid tutorials to follow it might give you some temporary Solutions I'm sorry that my texts are almost up I'm using the voice to text transcriber in my phone at the moment since I don't have access to my computer but I think that it sounds like the best of option to get a new kit try to work around It That Way I know this There is a variety of Pat cocks on the temu website How are I haven't tried to work around myself yet but I've been thinking about getting one and see if it will fit After All It would be better to have one that is possible to turn off when the bike isn't used
