Never seen your channel before, but I gotta say I loved your in-depth look into Horiyama's work. I LOVE the soundtrack to X4, so I guess it's no surprise I love his work in other games. Thanks for the video and you've earned yourself a sub!

My Guess: 1) burst man - No 2) Freeze man - Yes 3) Pirate man - Yes As for the video: My brain really sucks to identify compositions. I'm more of a listener anyway. But god do I love to watch videos of in depth analysis about music. Especially from mega man. My favorite from X4: Magma Dragoon's theme. It brings the heat to the music and it's so good to listen to. Waiting for a X6 video in the future.

No worries, enjoying the music is what counts! And thank you for participating, I'll share the answers once more people have participated in the quiz. Magma Dragoon's theme from X4 is fantastic, so intense and powerful. I'm focusing on some other videos first, but an X6 analysis is definitely on my to-do list. I might even combine it with X5's soundtrack.

And cyber peacok is stuck in my head again. X4 was my go home and relax game back in highschool. Of the psx era x games, 4 had the track that stuck with you the most. So if i where to venture a guess, id say his trademake is indead tracks that can get stuck in your head.

X4, IIRC... was the only soundtrack where apart from the opening stage, which was in major... had most of it's stages written in minor?

Burst certainly has the right chord progression, bassline, and flourishy drumbeat. I see that. Freeze, certainly not, because the backbeat has too much flourish and the drumbeat is very understated - if so, it's a big departure. Pirate, it's possible because I do hear that flat bassline and the kind of percussion that usually accompaines the track, but the lead is so flourishy... I would think so just because it's very "swashbuckler" which by itself points in that direction. At least, I believe they'd be one of two that built it together? Is that a valid answer?

I am going to guess that Burst Man and Freeze Man were Horiyama's work because they have drums similar to his other tracks, while Pirate Man was not because that's from Mega Man & Bass and his name doesn't even appear in that game's credits, Naoshi Mizuta, Akari Kaida, and someone going by Kirichan are credited with sound design for it. If he did work on MM&B, his name was kept out of it for some reason, but I like to think Capcom is pretty good at crediting the people who work on their games, even if they do prefer their nicknames or aliases. And honestly, Pirate Man's theme is the only one of these three tracks that I feel strongly enough about to go this in-depth with my reasoning for.

That's a good line of thinking, on the Capcom fan wiki I saw that he did work on MM&B (indeed credited as Kiri chan), he did the boss battle theme as well as some of the final stages I believe.

Do you think he took inspiration for Web Spider's theme from Rio by Duran Duran? When it comes on the radio, I just hear Web Spider's theme. Also, you mentioned Battle network 5 which brings another question to mind; The Battle theme sounds almost identical to Green Scream from Dark Stalkers 3 to me. Both Capcom, I don't see any crossover composers. Ironic coincidence or tribute?

The Duran Duran song sounds pretty similar! It could've been the case, but I don't know if they were popular in Japan. It could also just be that these stylistic choices were popular at the time. It's hard to know for sure, since many composers like to keep their inspirations a secret. As for the "Green Scream" track, I do think it's a tribute or heavily inspired by it. The similarities are too strong to be coincidental, especially with both tracks being from Capcom composers. Even without being a direct crossover, it's likely that Kaida (BN5's composer) wanted to honor their work in a way.

I have ZERO ear for music so videos like this one are sitting down to learn about a language you can't speak. I still can't speak the language but I sure can tell you some interesting facts about it!
