The Wisdom of Odin is a vlog of my journey through Norse Paganism, a way to assist others along their journey, and a place to promote a positive image for all of paganism.
While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.
All gatherings are set up and managed by The Fellowship of Northern Traditions, a non-proft religious organization. This channel/community is inclusive to all but is also non-political.

I think of Odin as a very busy father, he'll let you in his office/study when he's ready to speak to you. Don't bang on the door like a child or you have to wait longer. He's got shit to do.

You should never try to bargain with the gods. This means you shouldn’t say in an offering if you help me I will give you this next time. That is bribing the gods. You should never expect anything in return for an offering. But feel grateful if you do receive something in return

I feel like asking the Gods if they would like something specific to add to the next offering would be a good idea. To me, that feels more of renewing or refreshing the offering with something new at they're request as to not offend. Plus that would give the person an opportunity to experience something new for themselves, if they're adventurous like that. Perhaps, just adding something new out of initiative to say "This [new item] made me think of you, and I would like you're opinion if I should give it more often in the future"

I think it is a deity basis kind of thing. For example there are some Goddesses and a few Gods that require a sacrifice aka offering so I appreciate your opinion and I'm a firm believer we should not be asking for a crapton of things yet I find asking for knowledge and guidance has been productive and I always offer at least an incense if I'm in "prayer" or meditation. No they're not the tooth fairy yet I don't think it hurts to speak your needs

@@mz.6109 definitely. I do offerings a lot and I talk to the Gods a lot. But I do no tell them if they give me what I’m asking for that I will give them something bigger next time. Every offering should be personal. And if they answer you then feel grateful. Do not try to bribe the gods by saying I will give you something better next time.

I feel like if it is with good intentions and not of vanity, it would be alright. Maybe the offering you have isn't much but all you have. You can promise to bring something more if say what you ask for happens where it allows you to bring a better offering. Some people are like me who don't have a lot of money. 😅

@@dakotahlavender doesn’t take a lot of money for any offering. Doesn’t matter the size or value of the offering. It’s the intentions that matter. So a small offering to a massive offering would have the same effect. Because the intentions would be the same

I just have to say this. The Gods are not always with you. Sometimes they have other priorities. That doesn't mean they don't cherish you, or recognize you. It just means they expect you to take care of yourself. Remember we don't ask the gods for strength. We ask the gods for the ability to strengthen ourselves.

Jacob, you're a marvelous blessing for all of us who follow our Pagan paths! I am a practitioner of Hellenic Polytheism, yet your message here in this video engaged me in a a very deep way. We are all too much engaged with life, pursuing careers, raising families, tending friendships, putting up with the hard times, no matter which pantheon we worship or path we walk. Through my years I have always felt the presence and the spirit of the Gods when I am in the midst of nature. Thanks so much for reminding us of the things that are more important than our feeling of disconnection. You show us how to reconnect.

Of course I've had those dry spells as well, but in my experience the Gods have a way to get your attention. I'm a firm believer of things happen for a reason. You may not know at the moment why, but you may realize later. Sometimes when a door closes, a side window opens. The Gods are notorious for that in my experience. I can't make offerings all the time, but when I walk passed my altar, or when I'm in a beautiful area on my walks, I'll speak to them. I agree about getting away from technology and connect with nature. It clears the mind. Thanks for this video as always.

"Pull the stick out of your ass and walk with it!" Yes 1000%! Decompress for sure. Being tapped in to the real world (notthe contrived world of work/school/media) is definitely a launching pad to receiving the wisdom of the gods and goddesses. General advice: work on yourself, wisdom is meant to be applied, spirituality is hard, sometimes you gotta look in the mirror and blame yourself and become better. If you don't show the gods that you're willing to put in the work, why would they give you more?

The way I look at it is Odin stops by and imparts the information you need Then leaves. It is YOUR job to act upon that wisdom and change your life if need be.

Go outside, build a fire, drink some. Put on danheim or wardruna. Be barefoot. Focus on the sounds and vibes of the music. And just to what comes to mind. Get in a trance like state. Disconnect from your day to day lives. And feel the spirits of the gods call. You will know which God or goddess reaches out to you when they do.

This is just great... so well put. I love your comments on being self focused, and getting out of your own head. It's so refreshing to hear that coming from a fellow heathen. The connection/ sometimes lack there of is something I've struggled with in my 12+ years "practicing"... as we all do...The trouble always comes when I'm focused on self versus the whole, which is all that actually matters.

Praise Odin's Spear Gungnir ! Praise Thor's Hammer.Mjölnir ! I take off my Mjölnir ( on a leather cord ) to shower and the other day I hurriedly dressed and forgot to put it back on around my neck. I've been ' off ' SPIRITUALLY for several days and realized while sitting silent in nature today I don't have my Mjölnir on. Within seconds of placing the leather cord with hammer around my neck and as the symbol of power and protection rests near my heart I became energetic and connected to our gods and goddesses again. Meditate my friends. Simply lay down, get comfortable like your about to go to sleep, close your eyes and allow your brain to let go of this chaotic world. You will fall asleep the first couple tries but eventually you will be in a state of awake and asleep. Your body will go into paralysis but you will be aware. When you start seeing swirling colors and a static of stars or snow in a light you are well on your way. I have made contact this way. I have literally watched civilizations carrying on with their lives from above as an observer.

Jacob this video couldn't have come at a better time for me seriously. Have had so much change and chaos in my life and haven't felt connected for months and when the calm of things have been happening the past two weeks im starting to feel a spark again. Thank you for the advice and reassurance. It can be very scary and saddening to not feel the gods around but you reinforce the fact that they are never gone forever. Hail to you and hail the gods!

To bless my home and strike his hammer against anvil for rain and Freyr to show me how to make my crops grow bigger and better to feed my family. Two glasses of Jesse James Bourbon. I've just recently joined this epic beautiful eye opening journey. it's been now 2 years and I have tested different approaches to connect and deconnect and I come to a firme conclusion that if you want to connect the. you have to make it happen they won't make it easy on you. give and you will receive maybe you won't receive it in the moment but when you will you will understand a lot of things. pleasure to watch your vids it's been a while I've not watch your videos in over a year 🤣🤣 last video I saw you where live talking about AC Valhalla and I commented and you replied lol I ve got good memory. anyways keep up the good work your doing amazing and your actually inspiring me to start my own channel here in France........ we need to expand our wisdom and our life 😁😁 SKÅL !!!

Thank you for, again, saying what I was thinking at several points in this video! Sometimes show isn't what's needed though, I think. I'm a bit more rustic, but I find my connection strengthened by just walking the land. Or sitting in the meadow by my creek. I'm blessed with acreage where I don't have to travel to find nature, but even when living in metro Detroit I could find it with relative ease. And when I feel silence on the other end of the line, sometimes I find it best to make a little noise myself. In my personal practice that usually comes down to clearing up the main grounds on my property for nature, working in my forge to make something, or such along that lines. If I'm feeling disconnected from my ancestors, given many generations were smiths, I sit in the forge with a favorite drink of my grandfather's and listen to the music I grew up on while I leave him out a cup. It can be as simple as that, or as intricate as shamanic gear and a drum and a full blown ritual. My trick? Find what that entity represents to you, or a summation of your connection with it, and without reserve embrace it. Usually you'll attract some sort of notice. Don't be humble about it. Don't half ass it. Do the work and they will notice.

When I first started yes I had alot of symbols and all the raven's, when i felt he wasn't around I asked for him since i was new and then i saw more symbols, but I realized these are Gods and Goddess' I'm talking to they weren't there to always show they were around so I've come to understand that.

I sometimes just disconnect and do my own thing for a while on purpose, just when I'm tired. What usually works for me is to continue with something I promised the Gods (my oath if you will) will really reconnect quickly. There is never any hard feelings. Everything just continues where we left off. In such a case, for me, doing something works better than giving an offering. For example, if I want to reconnect with Thor, who is my main guy, I usually try to hit a PR in the gym. That works really well for me.

I'm new to paganism, leaning more towards Celtic paganism traditions and practices, but I haven't found how to connect with a deity or how to tell if they are responding to you. I've been an atheist for most of my life because of lack or proof/believing in what can be proven or seen; but I'm wanting to try my hand at faith. It's hard for me to feel as if Gods or deities or spirits are real since I cannot hear them or talk to them or feel their presence or help, and I was wondering if you could help me with this transition somehow. I want to believe and I want to find a deity that resonates with me that I can give my faith to. I'm still learning about paganism, specifically Celtic/Gaelic paganism, and having dove into the witchcraft/ritual/spells side of things yet but your videos are much more inspiring hearing the knowledge and wisdom you share over other resources I've had thus far.

Ive had these days and recently and it may not have been a sign but When i started my journey back in like late middle school early highschool of learning who and what the gods are i guess well fast forward to about a year and a half ago when i told my friends i was a pagan, one who was also a pagan a friend of a friend gave me this necklace that was like a dragons tooth or wolf maybe ...it was cool and i wore it every day even after i got my hammer And after i had done a few rituals to thor odin and yes loki he got me out of an abusive relationship im pretty sure it was him got alot of out of the ordinary signs with things associated with him But still that neck snapped off my neck and its broke before but i could fix the clasp...but i cant find the clasp its no where around the house or in the thing it broke on so....maybe its a sign the start of my journey is over I had before this been feeling disconnected but i hope i can open up again this summer on my trip to the mountains
