Have you ever done an in depth video showing your mixing and post process? Would love to see a full walkthrough going from your raw performance to the finished cover.
@@dpedrosoliano You just have to set the recorded guitars just a bit louder than the track and then do an EQ band cutting about -8 dB and then move it around while listening until you find the spot that makes it sit better in the mix. Then you just do small tweaks until it sound the way you want. Obviously it helps if the guitar tone is similar to the original track. Also sometimes it might be better if you don't double track your guitar, it really depends on the kind of song/genre.
THANK YOU! Im seeing people in comments going "nice video man" wtf! The title, the chapter names, his very 1st sentence, eveything is misleading about this video. All he said was "oh, give'it a go" and that's it. No tips, no eq strategies, nothing useful.
Because he said NOTHING, the title, the chapter names and his very 1st sentence lead you to think tht he's gonna show you HOW TO MIX A KILLER GUITAR COVER USING THE ORIGINAL TRACK to then tell you "give'it a go 🤡".
Your covers are killer bro. They deffo live and breathe unlike others I’ve seen. The time and effort put into post mixing etc pays off. Btw I Saw what a nightmare you were having on Insta with this vid haha thanks for sticking with It and getting it out to us! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great video, and congrats for getting it out! I hate when shit malfunctions!! And if people can't hear the obvious difference between the overdubbed guitars and the original track, that's on them. I swear everyone's an expert these days lmao 🤘💀🤘
I'd buy this dude a pint if I met him not only is he fellow brit but he's also an ace guitarist who has great taste with Blackstar backline. Keep doing what you do man 🤘
I useably use custom backing tracks but you are right I am covering enter sandman now and im using the song I think it is better im not done yet but it feels better , and its cheaper lol thanks bro
Hey Matt, I have just started my own channel and want to upload higher quality videos, using Mp3 backing tracks, either original or backing track purchased. I just don't understand where copyright comes in to it. I see loads of other players do this, so I guess it's fine?
@The_Majestic _ I've since looked into this and every cover is copyrighted, but alot of artists are simply very lenient. So you're technically always in a situation where an artist can claim against you. So its simply luck of the draw! You can get licenses to cover you though if you want, I've not looked into this too much but I don't think this means an artist can't claim against you or try and take money from any money you make. So just do what you want basically! Some if not most artists probably appreciate the extra exposure! And it's not like you're making a fortune off their music. They'd probably be more interested in you if you were! ...but we have tribute cover bands, so again it's all bit of a haze! 😅
Hey mate, great video. Just wondering about lead sounds and solos. I struggle to get a good sound. But i only record down the middle. Should i record my solos one each for left , right and centre?
@@mattriffmaster Ik that mate, but do you download the songs from youtube into mp3 and then drop them into the daw? or do you have to do something else
@@mattriffmaster well i even tried doing tutorials for slipknot songs and still flagged for a song thats everywhere on youtube, seems pointless so i gave up. I just link my vids to gdrive and people decied to DL or not.
You can’t just drag and drop .. Tried it using ITunes and with Windows Media Player… I’ve seen others say the same.. I’ve tried it over and over .. Doesn’t work for me ..🤷🏻♂️
@@mattriffmaster But dont they take your video down? Or kill the original track sound? Im trying to do a bunch of covers but i get copyrighted even tho i write that i dont own the song, i do 1 track left and 1 right, do you put your original track center or the daw splits it into 2 mono tracks and you panned them left and right also? Thank you so much if you respond
We all start somewhere dude I was the same but after I recorded my guitars I pulled up the EQ and started moving things around until it sounded good that’s all I did
@@mattriffmaster it is not about how I or how you sound. Just that heavy british accent is so unbearable. Why you britisih people just don't speak like why it should be? Just speak like an American, without any terrible accent.
@@mattriffmaster I am not an American and I think (I believe all the europe thinks like me) American accent is just so basic and enough, when I try to even listen something from a British it is being just so unstandable.
@@mattriffmaster you can be proud of being British but I advise you not to be proud of your accent cuz it sounds like a panda trying to get something out of its mouth
