Thanks for the kind words! GarageBand doesn't have a Noise Reduction tool like some other DAWs have. The best way to reduce room sounds is to try to record in a quiet space, and to be sure you are using the right type of microphone. I've not used the m-track 2x2 before, but it looks like it just has one XLR mic input. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to record the mics on two separate tracks, but you could get an XLR splitter to plug two mics into one input. Hey! I'm a little late to this video but it's a great job! Thank you. My question is about my friend and I who want to podcast together remotely. How would you recommend we get the highest quality audio recording? The plan was to use Discord as our meeting space (Discord stage channel), then record our individual mic inputs of the conversation via a recording app, then upload the audio files into two tracks on Garage band. What are your thoughts? Could Garage band also function as that recording app for our call over Discord? Thank you!

Thanks! I’m starting a podcast and have a cheap mixer. When I try to record separate audio it only shows up as my usb mic which is basically just all the mics running through the mixer. Is there a way to change that or is it just because it’s running through a mixer?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Год назад
In my experience, it depends on the mixer. Some send out one mixed output, so GarageBand only sees the one output. Some send out multiple channels, so you'll see something like "Mixer," ""Mixer (1)," "Mixer (2)," etc. I have a mixer where you have to turn on "multitrack recording" in order for it to output multiple channels. I would look up your mixer and see if it has multitrack recording capabilities. I hope that helps!

@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 16 дней назад
GarageBand doesn't have a great noise reduction option unfortunately. One thing that could help is to make sure you're using the cardioid polar pattern on your Yeti (the one that looks like a heart). The other polar patterns will pick up more room noise.

Is it possible to connect a phone to your computer to take calls in the podcast? I normally do my podcasts through calls but had some tech issues so looking for another way to record. My options are that or using zoom or riverside. I hooked everything up but it is still only recognizing one input.
@liftpodcasting

If GarageBand is not recognizing a second audio input, you might be able to create an "aggregate device" using your Mac's Audio MIDI setup. Here is a walkthrough I found on that: support.apple.com/en-us/HT202000 For recording phone interviews, I prefer Zoom. Just make sure to have it set to record separate audio files for each participant. That is a checkbox under Zoom .us > Preferences > Recording. I hope that helps!

Difference between recording podcast in stereo vs mono? Benefits? Thank you
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Год назад
If you record your podcast in mono, the same audio will come out of both the left and right speakers. If it's recorded in stereo, the sound that come out of the left and right speakers will be different. I would recommend recording in mono unless you have a specific reason to record in stereo. Mono files are half the size of stereo files, and it will sound balanced in the ears of the listener. It will also sound the same if the listener is only using one earbud, for example. Stereo can be used if you are playing around with sound design. For example, you can make it sound like your speaker is walking across the room by panning their audio from right to left. I hope this helps!

What if you are using a mixer console like the Road> It seems to master all the mic tracks into one track
@liftpodcasting

The Rodecaster has several outputs including the mixed tracks and individual tracks. Here are the directions on how to set it up so you can record each mic to its own track: cdn1.rode.com/rodecasterpro/Garageband/Mac/RCP_Multitrack_Guidelines_Garageband.pdf

Hi I have a 2 QU2 mics that are plugged in via XLR to a COMICA AD3 that then is plugged in to my mac with a headphone jack. Why am I not seeing both mics?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Год назад
I'm not familiar with the COMICA AD3, but from what I was able to find online, it's likely the audio coming into your computer is the mix of both mics from the one output. One mic is on the left channel and the other is on the right channel. I believe you'll want to be sure the switch on the side is on S for Stereo (not M for Mono). If you want to edit individual tracks, you can try duplicating the track when you're done and pan one track to the left and one to the right. Here's directions on how to pan tracks: support.apple.com/guide/garageband/set-track-pan-positions-gbndf3f2f28c/mac#:~:text=In%20a%20track%20header%20in,it%20to%20the%20center%20position. I haven't used the COMICA AD3 before so I can't promise that will work, but I hope I'm sending you in the right direction!

My guess is that you need to switch the output on GarageBand. In the menu go to GarageBand>Settings. Then click on the Audio/MIDI tab at the top. Under Devices, change your Output Device to your computer's speakers. Hopefully that helps!

Thanks for the video. Can I just ask a few questions (I'm a novice!!). First, if I want to record a podcast with me and one other person using my MacBook Air (using GarageBand) how do I link two microphones and two sets of headphones to the one laptop to do that? Second question, if I want to intersperse the conversation with playing music from the laptop, will the music just be picked up if I play it through the laptop (e.g. through Spotify) or do I need to import the music some other way? Thanks in advance!
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 4 дня назад
Ask away! You'll likely need an adapter that plugs into your Air and has two USB inputs. You can get a headphone splitter to attach two headphones. Here's a good video on how to get GarageBand to read both microphones: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nG6XJMgX4bk.html For music, you'll need to import it as an audio file for the highest quality. You can create a new track and add the music there. I hope that helps!

Have you ever had an issue with a weird echo in the tracks when you record two mics or is the master echo option you turned off supposed to correct that?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Год назад
Typically the culprit is the master echo or master reverb. Another possibility is that both mics are picking up one voice, which creates a subtle echo effect. The best polar pattern for a podcast mic is cardioid, so it's not picking up sound from behind the mic. Omnidirectional mics will sound echo-y. If you're using cardioid mics, make sure they aren't too close together.

I followed instructions but I keep hearing both mics on one channel. I’m using the commander m1 by squarock! Can anyone help please
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 9 месяцев назад
I've never used the Commander M1, so I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it doesn't output separate tracks for each microphone, but instead outputs the stereo mix. Sometimes boards will output one mic on the right channel and the other on the left channel, if that's the case you can record them on one stereo track and then separate them into mono files. Audacity has a simple way to do that and I found a video that explains how to do that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uMIulxy7luM.html Sorry I don't know the exact issue, but I hope that helps! I found this on adding podcast to a Patreon account: support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004204206-Setting-up-a-podcast-on-Patreon You would first need to export your audio from GarageBand by going to Share > Export Song to Disk. Be sure to have MP3 selected.

It's hard for me to know where the fuzziness is coming from without seeing it, but I found this article that might be helpful in pinpointing what's wrong: www.makeuseof.com/garageband-why-vocals-sound-distorted-how-to-fix/

@@liftpodcasting it’s mostly in the noise gate. I can take it down but then my voice doesn’t pick up or it’s choppy, I turn it up just a little and the fuzziness comes back
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 11 месяцев назад
@@RadosaImages The noise gate will cut off anything below a certain threshold. So if it's turned up too high, it will cut off your voice causing it to sound choppy, or it won't pick it up at all. It sounds like there is a sound in your room that its picking up, or perhaps there is a buzz in the mic itself. What kind of mic are you using?

All in all, a useless "instructional" video. All she has done is tell us which buttons to push. Most of that is intuitive already: taken care of in the programming. "Click the dropdown; click on your microphone, and that's that." No word on how to get your device into the dropdown, or what to do if your device doesn't appear in the dropdown. In other words: no information on how to operate the software, just how to click buttons provided.
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 23 дня назад
Thanks for your feedback! Sorry this video didn't answer your questions. Typically your mic should appear in the dropdown once it's plugged in. Sometimes it doesn't appear due to security settings on your mac. Here's a good video on how to fix that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9uEAmNO0mhE.html This is a great tutorial if you're trying to record with two USB mics and if you're only seeing one in the dropdown: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nG6XJMgX4bk.html I hope that resolves the issue!
