I'm gonna be honest, I record my podcast from my phone and use a PowerDeWise microphone set up I bought off Amazon. It works for me right now but I eventually want to upgrade, especially since I record solo but have ambitions to do guests at some point down the line. I want to start with audio only and then work towards video as well but I know I need equipment for that. Equipment that costs money. I think this will be great for me in a year or two as an option but just isn't in the budget. Love the videos you're putting out though!

Thanks! Audio only is a solid start. We'll have more hardware videos for all budget options soon.

Love your videos they’re so clean, so concise and so helpful. I have a Mac and high-quality mics, atem mini pro and a roaecaster pro 2. Do you have any specific recommendations for using the roaecaster pro two with Riverside?

Appreciate that! And great setup, just understand that multiple mics plugged into the Rodecaster will all get recorded into a single audio file in Riverside. And I would also use the Rodecaster as the audio output and plug your headphones directly into it!

I use the ATEM Extreme ISO and for Audio I use the new Rodecaster Pro 2. We're currently looking at a way to improve the Remote guest Video/Audio but I haven't got that complete yet. Webcams are "terrible" with the exception of the NEW MacBook M2 Air.

Hi Matt! For remote guests, the new iPhone as webcam feature coming with iOS 16 and macOS Ventura may help, otherwise they can use the Riverside app now on a mobile device (usually the best camera people have) and get good quality video!

@@Riversidefm Question. I use the Rodecaster pro for audio. Do I need the USB or can I connect my USBC cable directly from my Rode to my computer and will Riverside recognize the audio input for all of my in studio XLR mics? I also have the ATEM mini switch that runs has USBC out. Do I connect that to my laptop directly and will riverside recognize that as a camera input? I have a full podcast studio and want to start interviewing remote guests using riverside but I want to use my cameras and mics for the in studio hosts. Any help would be appreciated.

We are looking at doing podcasts for a number of our customers and have a couple of questions. We already have the Blackmagic extreme ISO. We will do a variety of different types of setups. Most often we will have two to three in studio guests and also may have some remote guests. We need our guests to be able to hear the remote guests and each other. So this looks like a good options. Would it still be good to have the Rhodecaster 2 in addition to the items you have in this video? How would you set that up? Just trying to get the right equipment. We also do have a variety of Zoom recorders and most of the time we will edit the final video with the raw files we have on that along with camera video. Is there a way to have both the headphones for guests and use the Rhodecaster inline with the with the zoom recorder and blackmagic ISO? Any help would be awesome!
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm 8 месяцев назад
Appreciate the question, and the Rodecaster Pro 2 would be a good piece of gear in this setup. In-person guests should have headphones plugged into the Rodecaster, and then you can use the routing settings to have USB audio go to all the headphones, plus the mics, and only the 4 in-person mics go *out* to the USB audio output. I have a video on the Rodecaster Pro II specifically here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zefi8R_0ymc.htmlsi=oqdMXLGtzj9YOkWS Also you could record locally to the Rodecaster to get those individual in-person audio tracks, rather than add the Zoom recorder into the signal chain. Then choose the Rodecaster as the mic input and speaker output in the Riverside studio. Let me know if that helps!

I record using the Zoom H6 so this will be my method for adding a remote guest. I have figured out how to send the single feed into Riverside from the H6 while also recording the two in studio mics to the SD card. What is your method for synching the remote guest audio feed with the multiple in studio feeds? Do you just synch as close as possible in post production? Do you only synch up the local recording with the remote guest recording for the audio only, the podcast and not into the video recording that would be on RU-vid?
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm Год назад
If creating video content of all participants, I would use the multi-cam syncing feature in Final Cut (which works with audio-only files as well). We have a video on that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vz4h4bkhzvM.html For audio only, I would typically line up as close as possible and then edit at 2x speed to make sure everything sounds in-line.

Would it be possible to have an in-person guest log in on their own device for video, but mute their audio? We would use the Focusrite + a mic splitter for their audio. We don't want to be on the same camera or use a camera splitter.
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm 10 месяцев назад
Technically yes, but if you try to put it together in the Riverside editor, you won't have their audio track. AI layouts depend on each guest audio to know when to switch. If you plan to edit everything in an external editor, that should work fine.

I am using Riverside for remote guests and set up as you demonstrate for two of us in the studio. We use the Zoom H6 for recording. Both microphones go into the H6, we have the headphone out into a headphone amplifier and things are working. To get the computer to see the H6 we put the H6 into Audio Interface Mode. Again, all works fine, we can hear the guest and they can hear us. However, when in Audio Interface mode I cannot get the H6 to record to the SD card. The record feature does not seem to be accessible at all. How do you record to the SD card on the H6 as you mention in the video?
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm Год назад
We tested the setup you describe with a MixPre-3, but will have to do more testing with the H6. Are you able to run software like Audio Hijack on the computer to record the separate inputs going into the H6 locally?
@rjcampbell9003
@rjcampbell9003 Год назад
@@Riversidefm I am using a PC so Audio Hijack is not available...unfortunately. I am not sure what software provides the same ability to choose the recording inputs like I see Audio Hijack doing in your video.

Hello, quick question- would the two people in the studio (say 1 guest and 1 host) use the same computer? Or separate setups?
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm 9 месяцев назад
I would recommend they use 1 computer with an audio interfaces. But you would need to record those two tracks separately as shown in this video. You *can* choose to have each in-person guest on their own computer so you have separate video feeds, but there will be a delay with what they hear in the room from the other in-person guest to what they're hearing in their headphones.

Is it not possible to use a mirrorless camera or DSLR as the webcam, sending the footage to Riverside?
@Riversidefm

You can! The mirrorless camera can be connected directly via USB in webcam mode or gone through a switcher like ATEM Mini Pro

Can’t I use call for all the guests whether in person of remote to eliminate any need for audio or video boxes? So all guests have their own camera and mic…
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm Год назад
If you plan to have multiple people in the same room, and want to eliminate all audio interface boxes, you would need each person to have their own computer with dedicated mic and camera, and tune in with Riverside. Monitoring each other will be difficult as the internet delay will conflict with what they hear in the room.
@MahimaMoksha
@MahimaMoksha 11 месяцев назад
Yes, latency is a problem...for those in the same room and with all separate devices, you'll hear normally and then again via headphones (aka echo). It seems there should be a setting within Riverside to specify who's in the same room, thus muting the mic outputs for those participants to each other. In other words, since they're sitting close and can hear each other normally, mute the mics for those in the same room but send their audio only to the remote guest(s)

We're new at this. But your video tutorial uses language where one would assume you can have 4 people in studio in addition to remote guests. For example your promotion of the Behringer 4 channel amp, the 4-way video switcher, and using words and phrases like "everyone in the room". Yet you sneak in the 2 channel interface during the audio example because: that's the max number of in studio mics a Chrome browser can record at one time (at least that is what your customer service finally told us). Yet you never mention this. It took us days to troubleshoot why only two out of the 4 mics were being recorded in Riverside, when all the audio in studio comes across perfectly. Why not mention this limitation?
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm Год назад
Typically a multi-channel audio interface will send a combined mix of all inputs to Riverside through USB. Sometimes this requires adjusting settings in the RODE or applicable software utility. We're sorry for the frustration, please share what audio interface you are using and we'll do more testing and research.

Why not explain how to send a seperate audio source to seperate videos? It seems smart for in person setups so your AI can switch speakers
@Riversidefm
@Riversidefm Год назад
That would require multiple computers / devices, one for each participant. It would be a good setup, but we went for a minimum of equipment.

@@Riversidefm Can you give an example of how you would do it? So that each microphone sends it's signal to the seperate video source
