this was really helpful, you explain and describe everything so clearly. as a beginner in recording, FL studio can seem really intimidating sometimes 😅 but you helped clear it up a lot snd make everything easier. thanks!
FL is my DAW of choice. But there’s one important feature you might want to touch on, the Panning Law. There’s an option to change panning law, from Circular to Triangular. This will allow you to hard pan various channels without boosting them over zero dB, if you select Triangular. Circular is the default, and will force users to reduce their input level when hard panned because Circular panning law dictates that a hard panned channel is louder. Another important feature for tracking is the Fruity Limiter which is on the master channel by default. This will allow users to smash audio together. Nice but this destroys mix dynamics. To do a mix in FL it’s best to disable any limiters until the end of the process. This will force the mixer to keep an eye on the mix levels, not exceed zero dB. Fruity Limiter is useful for those occasional spikes that exceed zero. Channel routing, another powerful tool to sum channels into one or two channels for recording. Multi-tracking is nice at first, but very difficult to manage a high track count session. This is also a useful working method to get recorded audio to default to the correct mix channel and will save time assigning tracks to the mixer. FL also records fader moves, MIDI, and automations, so if you’re adjusting things while recording, these will all become automations. This can become a hinderance. So it’s becomes prudent to edit your projects automations using the Browser. You’re doing great. Thank you for the series.
Lastly, stereo separation is actually quite logical, once you understand the need for it. Panning a stereo file without stereo separation will add left+right and push them as panned. Setting stereo separation to max (counterclockwise) will no longer combine left+right when panning. If you wanted just the left side when you pan left, use 100% (counterclockwise) stereo separation.
@@Eventual420 hello, do you know how to get vocal recordings out of mono? I cannot get them to stereo, and its not a problem with my mic because my recordings have been stereo in my past projects.
I think it would be important to note right upfront that you cannot record audio in the Fruity edition - only in Producer and above versions. This is also not stated anywhere the Sweetwater site under the different FL Studio packages.
Thanks for the video. I only needed the first 17s to fix my problem. Kept playing my beat while recording in Edison and couldn't isolate my vocals without getting the beat. As soon as I saw that you weren't using the Master Channel for your vocals something in my brain clicked and I realized that was my issue.
Recording audio in fl is fairly easy but finding those files for use later is horrible and not only that fl studio shows recordings in other locations on my pc as empty when they actually have audio files in them . The number one reason I use other daws over FL studio is the horrible file management for my recorded audio and the hassle of setting up channels just to record my own samples , its really archaic compared to the ease of ableton and bitwig with simple audio record drag and drop in a sampler. The sad thing is i like FL a lot other than recording my own samples to be used on a keyboard for play back.
I'm new at recording... Any tips . I see.he used only 1 channel which is sent to mixer, only one channel. But then multiple tracks are recorded. ??? Can u clarify ?
Just got a new laptop my old one was so bad lmao I also had to get some different software besides suck ass audacity lol so I tried out fl studio and so far this looks like a pretty good tutorial
It would be nice if you could just arm a track and record like in other DAWs. In FL mobile you select a track and record. Sometimes it doesn't work properly but that's different topic.
You have the best explanation I’ve seen. I have a video or me singing on my phone. How can I get that audio to FL? I was at the studio yesterday and the guy took a dongle and hooked it to his set up and put my audio in the system . Do you know how? FL won’t let me drag the audio
Thanks for sharing the video. I'm looking for a solution as I'm not sure about the output setting and my voice has been altered and it sounds like a pitch formant when I didn't do anything to it. Could you give me some advice
Hey could you please reply, I just brought a brand new focusrite and mic and set it up using another one of you vids but when I chose my input I don’t get no jump or signals like you did at 0:30 I can’t record nothing and I have no clue what’s wrong since this is all brand new equipment it’s a very frustrating problem
So how do you record into just track one? And not multiple tracks like you did? Cause when i record vocals I records onto track 1 and 3 and I can't for the life of me figure out why?! Please help.
Whenever I record I can hear myself.. If i unroute my vocal insert to the master track during recording, I cant hear my previously recorded clips before i start recording... Also, whenever i start recording for the next bar, it overlaps with the previous recordings... I'm new to fl, can someone help?
@@Ixeee328 same im new and I’m still stuck at the input stuff, like i pressed select and stuff and I can hear myself also but it’s like off by one second or something and on top of that when I pressed play it wasn’t even recording my vocs
So I am trying to record a track to a track I have already prepared and armed, but when I click record, it ALWAYS creates a new track and captures audio in both my prepared track and the new one. How do I stop FL studio from creating a new track and just recording in the one I have selected?
hello, do you know how to get vocal recordings out of mono? I cannot get them to stereo, and its not a problem with my mic because my recordings have been stereo in my past projects.
Hello I have a question. and what if i have midi controler - synth, that is pluged stright to computer and i want to record my vocal as audio file and keys as notes all at once. How can i do it? and second qestion is, which audio input source i should use for the midi controler. thank you
Every time I go to select an input channel i get a notification saying this- 'You've selected an external input. Do you want to switch to External input only to avoid recording internal audio on this track?' Everytime I click Yes or No, nothing happens. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
I can't seem to control which playlist track the recording goes to. Even if I select a new track, it still records the clip on to a different track, it's actually the 2nd empty track.
Hey so I have a problem when recording. So when I'm finish recording my vocal in FL studio my verse tends to move out of place and isn't in the same spot of where I originally recorded what could be wrong I've been looking for a solution for quite some time. ( I also tried recording with a the selection tool and looping it but it randomly will move the takes out of place still)
This was very helpful!! Can you please tell me why my vocals or my audio only comes in on the left side? I seen in your video the sound comes through with the left and the right. I'm using SSL + 2 as my interface

I am doing everything that everyone is doing on these videos...I have everything set up right, but when I record, it is doing really wierd stuff, it only records 2 steps and loops, it is recording in different tracks that I did not select in the mixer, and it is bringing in multiple samples thag I don't even have in the channel rack at all, because I don't have anything in the channel rack...WTF is going on? Please, anybody? I can't find any videos to help? This is crazy, I tried everything?
hmm, when i do everything exactly like sweetwater and go to the insert section where it says none ... and i can not change to input. this field is blocked. what am i forgetting?? swissgreetings
im having a problem where my vocals and instrumental record in the same track and instrumental is duplicated and put on to the same audio as the vocals, how can i fix this?
thanx So Much I real learned some Thing new how to record .....it's supper nice ..... please help me to kno how to mix mastering vocals .....Thanx so much
@sweetwater i have a problem. Everytime i record something to add on the same bar. It automatically "rerecord" what is already recorded. So the new track have the newly recorded audio file merged what was on the top track. If it makes sense. This has never happened in any other DAW, only FL. Any ideas? Since it does not happen with you in this video.

i wish you explained how to stop FL studio from making you listen to your mic playback when the mic is active. this is something i've always hated about FL studio and i can't figure out how to make it so i don't hear everything my mic is picking up during and while not even recording x_x

@38 seconds into the video, I don’t see the levels on fl studio but I see them on my interface when I speak into my mic. Fl isn’t picking up my vocals. Can someone help me please.
