THANK YOU for this tutorial. Easy to follow and this newbie had success! One question....I programmed my first batch of scenes and made my first chase. I now have another fixture that I want to "add in". Is there a way to add this guy into my already-created scenes, and if so, will the chase that uses those scenes automatically "update" with the new fixture in the mix? Didn't find anything in the manual as to that.....
+Thisguyalex14 I really wish that was possible, but unfortunately the Obey 40 is very limited in that regard! Check out my videos on Enttec DMXIS if you're looking for a more complex, but still easy-to-use console.
Hello! I am totally new to lighting. I am using the Obey 40 in conjunction with 12 Chauvet fixtures on 3 stands with 4 fixtures per stand. I understand that the first fixture that is plugged in auto assigns the first DMX address and so and and so forth. 1.) Do you need to physically assign the address on the fixture as well? If not what do you have the fixture set as in the menu option on the fixture? 2.) each time I set up and tear down, would I need to keep the same fixtures in the same order in the Daisy Chain? 3.) I am using wireless DMX with 1 receiver and 3 transmitters. I have 3 stands that all have one receiver each and four fixtures. IF I plug receiver 1 into fixture 1 and that auto addressed as fixture 1. Would the next fixture HARDWIRED via dmx cable become fixture 2 and so on? To explain Stand 1 has 4 fixtures would stand 2 fixture 1 be the 5th fixture and stand 3 fixture 1 be the 9th fixture? If it sounds confusing, its because I am confused lol Thanks for your comments!
Hey Dean, 1. Yes you have to assign the addresses on the fixtures too. 2. Yes, you will have to keep them in order or re-address them each time. Feel free to join us on www.learnstagelighting.com/labs to answer all your questions and get you started on your lighting journey.
Question. Is there a way to FADE between scenes. I hear from forums that some people go in to Program mode, stay there, and can fade between scenes by moving the fade slider between scenes. Other forums say this is not possible, so I'm a bit lost. I'm programming lighting for a play and need to fade between scenes instead of the abrupt hard change between scenes.
Yes - go ahead and watch the chases video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4bOj-C5hNFI.html You can use the chase function tied to the fade slider. The catch is that you can't have the up any longer than the max length of the fade slider - because it'll start transitioning automatically to the next scene!
I am using a Chauvet Obey 40 for a wedding band setup. I am triggering scenes via midi. My question relates to chases. I have 6 chases programmed in the Obey 40. I can call them up using midi notes. But I can no work out how to start them without pressing the auto button on the controller. And if I heave it on, when I return to scenes, they continue to scroll. If there a command to start a chase? Thanks, Andrew
I have the same issue, only the first scene is triggered when sending the chase midi note. I cannot find any midi command to trigger the auto/del function. Making this unit totally useless.
Hey bro, very nice video. I can see you are very experienced with DMX operation and i was wondering if you could help me with some info....im using this same brand Chauvet but im using the obey 70 controller..im working my lights in 3 channel mode..i think i have almost everything covered but....is there any way i can assign my scenes to faders? other question...is it possible to go from one scene to another on a slow fade ? right now i just can go from one scene to another in a jump cut way...id like to make a softer fade from one to the other....thanks in advance for any info you can share. +Juanri Della Togna You have stumbled into one of the biggest letdowns of the Chauvet Obey series - check out my series on the console "Enttec DMXIS" right here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jyvFXVxRJoo.html . DMXIS is much more capable to do the tings you are asking, but also not difficult to use!
@@LearnStageLighting arrgh, one more question, if I bring up a scene, can I change a setting on one fixture eg change color temporarily? Thx for replying!
