For anyone that is having trouble with the buzzing, make sure the audio patch cord isn't damaged; they are very delicate. I recommend making one or buying a good quality one.
Mine works, but the sound doesn't sound clear! It sounds like a bad quality mic... man I don't want to waste my money on buying audio interfaces, and I don't like using MIDI either, I like the natural built in sound from my digital piano
I love everything about this video. To The point. No jabbering. Gave me instant results told me what to use and how to connect and results in an instant. Love it. Thank you sir!
FOR THOSE THIS STRUGGLING like i was-The ORDER in which you plug in is very important. For me- i have to plug the trrs into the phone first for my phone notification to recognize that i am trying to record into it externally. THEN plug your cable from your keyboard into the mic input your phone is to receive
Thank you so much for this info. Finally shows a way to record multi track creations via audio file on yamaha psr-e463 without having to use MIDI. RU-vid Geeks are my heroes!
Hi there, thank you for this video! I have a question: I've followed the steps but when I try to record myself with the camera, it doesn't pick up on the sound (ie. I just get the sounds of my keys clacking). Is there an app I should download that would be able to record the sound directly from the digital piano?
Sir sir sir..!!! I am from India and I want to record I had purchased many things as I am watching yt video for this so nothing happen...I wait for 1 month and now because of you I can record finally... Literally I cried as I can record now TTTTTTHHHHHHAAAAANNNNNKKKKK YYYYOOOUUUU😄😄😄
Can I use this idea with mobile camera for recording video and audio at the same time, and at the same time can I connect my headphone in audio splitter for hearing ,what I m playing??
I tried this, but when I playback the recording I hear pretty loud white noise that diminish whenever I press the puano notes and gradually comes back whenever there's void between notes. How do you solve this
This video was just what I needed I've looked all day for a video like this an this is the only one I found And the names of the wires was really appreciated as well
I tried to do just this but encountered 2 problems - one is, you could not hear the sound of the piano while playing; 2nd is the sound I got from my recording was garbled and crisp.. any suggested work around?
You can download an audio editor app to change how it sounds, but if the sound is worst than I am thinking, then it may be a problem with the adapter. For the problem about hearing the piano,I am not sure how to fix that. I have the same problem. I will reach out to you if I find a solution, but it's not looking to promising.
When u put the adaptor into the piano, it's audio output changes. That's why there's an audio splitter. On end of the splitter goes into the phone. The other end that has a headphone icon on it is to be connected to a speaker or headphones. The sound comes out of that
When I connect my piano to another device via line out, the sound records but it will not play out from the piano speakers so I can't hear what I'm playing. Any solutions?
The splitter cable has a mic and headphone output, use headphones or earphones on the headphone label of splitter cable ( somehow its not working for me although I've done everything)
For anyone who hasn't had much luck with this setup, here's what worked for me (I'm using a Galaxy S8): I replaced the Y-splitter going into the phone with a USB sound adapter, also called an external soundcard. You can find ones for like $10, or go for more premium ones if you're looking for more control and possibly better sound quality. I tested this with the voice recorder app and it worked great! Sound is good. Though for some reason my native camera app still uses the phone's mic even though it says its "using external headset for recording". I suspect 3rd party camera apps might do the trick.
@@daniello2147 Not at all! And also *update:* I use a camera app called Open Camera which lets me specify the sound source Edit: the adapter one I used was a "UGREEN USB External Sound Card" and I used an OTG cable to plug it into my phone
Abdullah Wosaibi I guess it might work. Actually the setup described in the video works for me, but I’ve been so annoyed by the background hissing noise from the cable since I started recording in that way. Maybe I should go for another setup later on.
Can I get a cable with the microphone input built in? Edit: The answer is no. You need the splitter. Even with a TRRS cable, your device won’t detect your piano as a microphone using the combo jack
It didn't work for me at first. But after I plugged the cables in correct order, it worked (I'm using the camera app from the phone, no third party app). When it works, you'll see the message on the phone saying "Recording through headset." Anh here is the order (you can try it). 1. Plug the Cable to the PHONE input of the Splitter. 2. Plug the Splitter to the PHONE input of your mobile phone. 3. Plug the other end of the cable to the piano/keyboard.
@@amunahm3324 Mine is muted, i can not hear what i'm playing, but once i plug the headphones into the piano, it stops recording, how can i fix this please?
@@amunahm3324 Yes, i have two headphone jacks with my Yamaha ydp-103, once i plug the headphones into the other jack, it stops picking up the direct piano sound ( stops recording internally ), how to fix this problem please???
I used a 3.5 mm jack audio splitter, and plugged it into the computer as a headphone and microphone entrance, you can hear what you're playing but the quality of the recording gets worse at leaat for me, I'm trying to fix the white noise if I manage to do it I'll do it
@@user2653 can you explain that? I want to do the same, playing and recording the sound with my computer. Can you explain to me how you do it? Do you use the exact same cables as shown in the video?
You need to connect them in a specific order. I plug my converter into the output then connect the cable to the converter then connect the splitter to the cable and then connect the splitter to the phone. This worked for me! 😁
I tried it but it did'nt work. I have a galaxy note 9 and a galaxy s7 edge both does'nt record ny sound. I have the right splitters, plugged them correctly buf still both phones does'nt record. Any work around?
Guys i was able to make it work.. what i did first was put a regular earphones first then a notification will appear on the phone saying that recording will use external mic, then i will remove it and put the y splitter. I will have to do it several times until my phone reads the y splitter and show the notification
Hope you are still using this RU-vid. I have a problem when connecting as the way you shared. Check devices: individual devices work fine through my tests. When I connect the FP-10 piano to the laptop, when I record with the voice recorder, the sound is clean - means that there is a signal from the piano (Mic) to the laptop. However, when connecting to IPHONE (12pro), the piano sound (mic) cannot be obtained, but only the sound outside the environment. I tried checking the adapter when attaching a headset with mic and testing with voice memos on the IPHONE, still getting sound through the headset's microphone. Can you help me figure out what's wrong? Thank you very much!
When you plug in the piano's output to the phone, can you still hear what you play? Or do you also have to plug in headphones /external speakers to the splitter cord?
@@dagakoasoko7382 but when I plug in my headphones, I can hear the sound but my phone doesn't record so how can I hear the sound and record it at the same time
I just bought the yamaha dgx-660. Love it. I want to shoot videos with audio quality JUST like you show here. I have an iPhone 10. There is another video on RU-vid showing them using a USB a-b cable and a iphone lightning camera adapter. I used the set he showed...nothing! Can you tell me EXACTLY what chords I need to buy and if it will work with iphone 10? Once I do this set up do I have to change ANY settings in the phone so when I record video I get this sound and not the internal mic still on the phone? Thank you in advance for any input you can provide.
@@Adultlearningpiano - I know how to record audio on the flash drive but how would I add that to the video later? Post processing? Can you explain I make a lot of music videos for fun.
Hello ! I use casio cdp s100 and it didn't work. Is ıt possible on some digital pianos or I missed somewhere else. I didnt use jack 6.35 adapter cause my piano's phones jack entrance is smaller as aux's. Please help.
I’ve now a new iPhone and there is no plug splitter. Any new recommendation in how to record directly using the the same method with the regular camera for iPhone?
Great video. HOWEVER: how do you produce a "stereo sound" as you say in your video when most adapters (all I found so far) have a mono microphone input. Or is it edited with software
@@thehat7017 I really don't like using MIDI, I want to use the original/natural sound to record my piano. But using this method is a bit terrible, the sound it recorded sound like a low quality recording
I have a Yahama piano, and a samsung galaxy note 10 plus. I see that a direct cable exist jack 6.35 to type C. Will that work ? or is the 3.5mm mandatory ?
What's the name of the adapter? I got one 6.3, it fits in but the sound is horrible I tested a golden one from a friend, just like yours, and the sound in headphones was loud and clear
I'm glad it worked for you! I also had a little white noise. Maybe it has something to do with the cable length or connectors quality. I didn't explore much how to deal with it in this cable setup.
When you say use normal camera app to record, what do you mean? Wouldn't this just record a video rather than the desired audio only capture? I can't get this setup to work at all with my Casio PX-S3100. Audio recorders on my phone still just record standard mic no matter what settings I choose. It won't just pick up the keyboard only.
Worked a treat! Had to download a different camera app but that's fine. Change audio source to external mic Change audio setting to stereo. Sounds great and no screaming kids or peppa pig in the background now 😁😁😁
Is it possible to use an audio patch cord only and not purchase a mic splitter adapter? And while that cable is connected, does the sound come out of the piano's speakers?
L. A. You’ll need another y splitter and plug them in a little different it’s been working for me. There are some adapters the take the place of 2 of these at once which will help a little on white noise
@@krixa0077 Thanks but the problem isn't the recording itself. The piano's output is being recorded and nothing else which is good. The problem is that I can't hear what I am playing while recording. As soon as I use the splitter there's no sound coming from the keyboard's/piano's speakers and if I try to connect headphones to another port there isn't any sound either. And it should be the right splitter with 4 contacts so really no clue whats the problem
@@Titanium_Ruby I figured it out. Get an audio jack splitter and connect that to the piano via a 6.35-2.55 adapter. Then connect an aux from the audio jack splitter to the device you're recording with (i.e. phone). Connect another aux from the audio jack splitter to a speaker device! This worked for me.
@@the_mia_mia thank you for this but Im not sure I follow - 1. Connect the splitter to the piano directly (instead of the patch cord to the piano) 2. Connect the patch cord to the mic splitter with the other end of the patch cord to the phone 3. Connect another aux to the audio splitter with the other end to a headset or a speaker If I do the above, I am able to hear what I play but the sound is not recording to my phone. Did I get it wrong?
This works, but you need *_one more splitter_* to hear yourself play. The complete and exact procedure is: 1. Make sure all these cables are *unplugged* from phone, piano, and the speakers/headphones you will use. [Connect cables] 2. Splitter's microphone jack --> *_splitter with two headphone jacks, A and B_* 3. Jack A --> audio patch cord 4. Audio patch cord --> adapter [Connect to devices] 5. First splitter --> phone 6. Adapter --> piano. 7. Jack B --> speakers/headphones to hear yourself play If you disconnect any cables for whatever reason, restart from Step 1. *On Android*: Use Open Camera app. After Step 6 (plugging into piano), you should see a pop-up. If you don't, something might be wrong. Restart from Step 1.
This is exactly what I was thinking.. “how the hell your going to hear yourself” Nice explanation! but I still don’t understand how to do it correctly. Never seen a splitter cable with 2 jacks before. 😂
What are you talking about? In the video the splitter still has a free input for your headphones. He only plugs the patch cord into the mic slot on the splitter. The headphone port is still free to use.
Hi please reply if we can use this on guitar too if i have the Phones Output in my guitar if it does then only i will buy the Materials also if there's no Output for the 6.35mm jack in my keyboard, can i replace it with something else? please i want answer ASAP
The problem is that I can't hear what I am playing. Used audio splitter to connect headphone to one port but after that no signal in another port for audio recording.
Recording MIDI and using a free PC Piano VST can be puch higher quality than the embedded manufacturer VSTs. A PC VST can be 1GB of sampling, it's usually much lower than that on entry/mid range digital pianos. I now record smartphone dirty sound and use it to align with the PC rendered audio.
How can i hear what im playing while recording? As soon as i plug in headphones in the audio jacket my phonecamera switches back to the phones mic. Please help this is so frustrating
I'm mad i got just about every cable you can think of for the Galaxy s21 plus i got the original Samsung usb c to 3.5mm female .I got the splitter you mentioned with 3 pin on end headphone jack adapter has 2 black stripes on end into keyboard .I enabled usb audio routing and debugging .Samsung video recorder does not record audio from USB .I tried a mail USB c to 3.5mm and Samsung female adapter nothing .I looked at settings nothing .It does not see USB a s a mic or audio in only headphones or audio out.

Hi there Something of an eye-opener for me. But I was wondering, if a phone output (from a keyboard or mixer) wouldn’t be too much powered for a mic input on a mobile? I gave it a try, as your video looked convincing, but it seems, I was right! I bought the necessary cables, and mic’s connected to the mic cable of the TRRS splitter goes fine through and can be recorded, but on my mobile (Huawei P20 Lite) any phone output connected to the mic cable just gives some noise. I don’t know if mobiles simply have different mic-input levels in the headset connection? But in my case it doesn’t work as shown here. Any suggestions? Thanks.
for android phones, download "open camera" from playstore...if already installed, go to its setting --> video settings --> Audio source --> click the "External mic (if present)"
@@alvinspianomusic That doesn't work for me. I can record the piano audio with "Open Camera", but I can't hear an output of any kind with the splitter.
