In this video, I show you some very easy steps to follow if you would like to transfer music from your digital device to cassette. Once you get the hang of the two steps I mention in the video, you should have no problems at all!
Maybe you have some music files on your cell phone. Maybe you want to move some songs from your smartphone or tablet and place them on a cassette. Maybe there are some streaming songs that you would like to record to tape. This video shows you how to do that.
Of course, this video is intended for absolute beginners. People who are new to recording with cassettes. If you have decades of experience using tapes, you will find this video VERY basic.
As I mention in the video, it basically comes down to the proper connections, and making sure your recording level is good. You don't want a recording that is too quiet or faint. You also don't want a recording that is distorted. It is practically impossible to remove excessive distortion from a recording.
Depending on the type of tape deck you are using, this will dictate the cables and connections that you will need. More than likely, you will need a 1/8 inch jack to a 1/8 inch jack (a headphone jack to a headphone jack). Or you will need a 1/8 inch jack to two RCA connectors. You can find these easily at any business that sells home electronics.
If you attempt to do this, please let me know. How did it go? Were you successful? Do your recordings sound okay? Let us know.
Are you into vintage or retro technology? Then this is the channel for you! Each week I share videos relating to things like cassettes, cassette decks, CDs, CD players, DVDs, radios, old cameras, lenses, microphones, home recording gear, home studio gear, laser discs, VCRs, reel to reel, analog synthesizers, drum machines, thrift shopping, video games, vinyl and so much more! If this is your thing, please subscribe!

My car only has a cassette player and as a result I've rekindled my childhood cassette collection, but this time with better taste! Thanks for the refresher course on something I haven't even come close to doing since I was seven or eight years old. Now my newer released albums that I love can join my Oingo Boingo and other 1980s gems in the box under my passenger seat (:

So I just need an audio jack to audio jack cable, a Walkman with a jack for a mic and a blank cassette, good to know! I'm gonna do this

Thank you for this video. The last Walkman-the FX290-came out just before I was born, so I wasn't exactly using tapes all the time. I was exposed to cassettes and vhs, and I used both of them multiple times as a child, but no one ever bothered teaching me how to record onto them, because they thought (and they were right, frankly) that 99% of us would never need to know. It's great to see someone who is very familiar with the workings who also has the patience to explain to people that have no idea what they are doing.

Thanks for watching! There are many folks out there who have never recorded onto a cassette. I made this video for them.

Fascinating. It's the same with blank CDs on your eight in one record player with the recording level as well.

I always love finding old gear that does have some kind of recording level. Many of them didn't.

Do I need the interface device such as focusrite in this method? I'm looking for high quality results

Not familiar with focusrite. Anyone?

The focusrite can help you get levels right but it’s total overkill.

hello, does this work through the mic/headphone jacks or usb on a pc?

I think you would have to use the headphone jack on your PC.

Only getting sound on one side. Different cell phones different tape decks same result. What's the deal with that?

Nice tutorial. When you record on a shoe box tape recorder, the recording is going to be mono not stereo.
