Hi, SSL Family Dad. Your video was a lifesaver. My hard drive crashed and I thought I'd lost all my treasured pictures forever. Thanks to your crystal clear video, and the written instructions accompanying it, and the great links to products you provided, I have my pictures back on my new machine. I can't thank you enough! I'd watched at least 8 other demos of how to retrieve material from crashed computers but your video was by far the best, in all departments. I'm the newest computer newby on planet earth, but thanks to you, even I was able to restore my pictures. Thank you again for making this possible.
I genuinely can not thank you enough for this video. You turned my problems into solutions, and now i have benfited from your help. If life is about good memories, you have added to mine 10 fold. From one household to another, i send sincere love. Thank you!
I did a stupid thing and accidentally broke the screen on my laptop. Your step by step instructions made the process easy to understand. Now I need to buy a new laptop to then transfer my files. Thank you!
I have to say I am very thankful for you doing this video. If it wasn't for this video I would have never been able to get my data from my computer that crashed. I bought the adapter kit from Amazon and it worked like you said. I had spent 4 hours on the telephone with tech support and none of them had any answers close to what you presented in your video. God bless you
This is fantastic! Thank you so much. I went into a store to find out how much it would be to recover my data from my laptop, and they quoted me $100. I'm glad I decided to do some more research before going through with it. Now I can do it myself for less that $20.
Thanks for this easy-to-follow tutorial. I saved myself a ton of money and anguish by trying this and successfully recovering all my old data (and irreplaceable family photos!) from a dead hard drive.
I have just found this video and would like to say thank you so much. You have given me faith that I have not lost all my life's work. Thank you, good Sir.
That's amazing. Needed to recover a ton of files from an initial Windows 8 machine that was TOTALLY dead and has been for years. Followed this vid with no expectations and now I have everything . Thank you!
Thank you so much man you are one of the very very few users on utube that actually help!! Stupid Windows 10 crashed and wouldn't boot only leaving me with the blue screen of death. I was worried I would loose my pictures etc. but thankfully this worked! I will always back up my pics to an external hard drive from now on. Windows is just not reliable and their stupid updates in the background can screw your pc if you shut off your computer not knowing an update is happening! FOR USERS if you can't drag a main user file over from the harddrive to an external harddrive because it says you have no access just open the user name file and drag everything over individually. Example just drag pictures folder. Then just Desktop folder etc. CHEERS!!
A geek squad guy at Best Buy said today when I was there that he is seeing a lot of the Windows 10 blue screen of deaths. Thanks Microsoft for screwing people's computers up now I know why Window 10 was free... because it sucks!! :( I got what I paid for!!
I just found this video tonight and like Lisa below, was devastated when electricity/outage fried my old desktop. I will try to order these tools from Amazon and recover my files. Thank you so very, very much.
This video is so helpful!! I can't wait to get home and do this with my old laptop so I can recover some old documents and pictures from my old laptop which I had for four years.
Question- is there any concern that any virus from my former computer can end up when I transfer the old files to my new computer? I love your video and I have not done it yet, but this is great information and you make it look really easy lol. I can only hope it is really as easy as you make it look. Thanks for your time.
Thank you, I'm getting those cables on order. So the hard drive is corrupted and I was told by the fix it techs to retrieve the data I would need to send it out where they would retrieve the info while in a clean room. I mentioned your RU-vid and how understandable the info is. They said you don't know what you're talking about, I misunderstood, or you were talking about something else. Good thing they display their true colors and I didn't use their service. Thanks again and my new computer came in today! Wahooo!
Excellent. This seems like everything I've been trying to research, to retrieve some old documents and photos from my dead desktop PC. It's detailed without being confusing. Well explained. Thank you. :)
Thanks, after watching about 4 other videos on the same subject you were the only one to address the security box and the fact that on can't do anything with the other Data stored on the donor hard drive.
Very helpful and informative! Thank you for sharing. Also, I want to thank you for putting that verse(Joshua 1:9) at the end of the video. It's just what I needed today as an encouragement. God bless you!
Your video is clear and concise. I could not afford to pay $500 for data recovery from my 2010 laptop. You made it seem so simple. Why is the cost to recover data so expensive?
Coz it is how they make their money. You can get 2.5 SATA external drive on ebay for 5 bucks....with useful screwdriver. Mine is downloading as I type! Just follow this vid and you are away!!……………….
Thank you soooo much . I literally have been staring at a dead computer and like what’s the EASIEST to way to export data because seriously , I don’t have a lot of money. Ty ty.
Thank you so much for sharing this...I can't wait to retrieve info from dead desktops I've been lugging around because I didn't want to pay $200 per PC to retrieve data!!
Thank you so much for this video! My computer crashed and I was despairing over all of my lost files but thanks to this video I have all of the things I lost! Thank you so much!!
Awesome video! I bought the cables and was able to transfer all my data from my dead desktop to my laptop. I saved so much money doing it this way. Thank you so much for posting this video!
What specific cables did you purchase ? From Amazon ? Is there a model number I should definitely get ? What’s the average cost for the cables ? Thank you
This was a great video. I have two older computers that have some documents and photos that I would like but they keep crashing before I my transfer can be completed. This is a big help and now maybe I can factory reset these old computers but make sure my documents are safe.
Glad to find this. Had done this a few years back, but forgotten the process. Special thank you for writing it all out. I had forgotten initially to hit the show more in your description.I now have it printed out. According to Microsoft and motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte my less than 2 year old ibuypower deskktop with win 10 cannot handle win 10 updates as was made for win 7/xp. Hoping this will get my data as a computer repair tech added lots of partitions and then doesn't know what he did with the data he supposedly saved.
Thank you very much, suburban Christian dad guy. I don't know much at all about computer hardware. Now I've got the hard drive out of my dead laptop, and I've just started copying the files to my new desktop. Currently at 0% complete. I think this will take awhile. Anyway, I've got this far, so that's good. Thanks.
I can't thank you enough for this video, it has really helped me so much. A computer guy I took my dead computer wanted to charge me a whole lot of money to do this and asked me to get a external HDD myself. I only need to get my pictures which is less than 500 and a few letters (like 25). Thank you so very much
Hey man thanks a bunch, really helped. In case people have the issue that their hard drive cant be read, and you are getting the "Parameters are Incorrect" error like I was, open the command prompt(admin) and type in "chkdsk /f G:" the G: is just whatever letter is next to your hard drive, it could be like F or C or anything like that.
Thanks for your concise and clear info. How do I copy the data files from the old hard drive to the new laptop without creating duplicate files (or copies)? One thought, move the folders to the desktop view (like you show) on the new laptop. Then backup the new laptop to an external hard drive (I have a WD Passport). Then delete the folder that you put on your desktop view. Finally, upload information from the WD Passport to your new laptop. Thanks for you advice!
This is very interesting. You didn't address a desk top, though. How do I know what the hard drive is on a desk top computer? You did a great job and I hope that I can do this.
Sorry Je99na2, I cannot reply to your comment directly. Not sure which options you changed but if it is windows 8 you can use a refresh to fix that or with Win XP, Vista, or 7 try safe mode (tap F8 during startup) and adjust settings from there. Send me an email if you need further assistance sslfamily5@gmail.com
I don't see the "kit" listed. There is one universal cable and 4 enclosures listed. I would like the kit, for NOW and for future use. THANK YOU for this video!
My computer window were not working well I was unable to transfer my data into USB ..I went to a computer shop ...he just connect my PC with his laptop by using some cable and transfer all the data into USB ..he told me that he did it by running Windows of his laptop on my computer. Can you explain that how he did it????
A while back I had I had the shocking experience of my laptop not being able to start up Windows, and old Windows Vista. I knew there was a way around recuperating data from the hard drive, so I looked up info. and this was the first video that I came across that I found to be super helpful. I looked up info on what cables I needed, etc and I found something in Amazon, but I needed to check back on the video for anything I might have missed. Unfortunately, I could not find the video lol, but I searched my History, and I finally found this video again, it was like loosing an extremely important document, because there is no other video that explains what you have explained so that I am able to understand it. I have subscribed, now so that I do not lose the video again. Thanks so much.
I watched the tutorial and I thought it was pretty amazing! I just got a question and a little problem. I have a 2018-2019 HP 15da0012dx laptop and I unhooked the SATA SSD, can these steps still apply to the SATA SSD or will it not work?
Thanks brother, I will have to buy one of those transfer cables, I have several old hard drives I need to recover files from; never wanted to take them to anyone to recover the data, felt too private, like someone seeing you naked, lol... I know computers very well, all the way back to my first cpu a Texas Instruments in 1980 which had to be hooked up to a TV like an ATARI... This is one area I knew nothing about, I am now complete, looks as simple as plugging in a flash drive... God Bless.
A TI in 1980, that was cutting edge stuff back then! Glad the video helped you out, I know so many people who do not want to take their computers in for data backups or transfers due to privacy. This way you can get it done at home and save a lot of money. Good luck and hit me up if you have any questions as always. God bless you man!
Thank you for sharing this. I hope you can also upload a video about checking damages to laptop hard drives and how to recover files from them. Specifically, those hard drives that came from computers that have been dropped to the floor or physically damaged in some other way. If not in a video tutorial, I hope you can answer them here. Thank you!
Jesa Perl Unfortunately if the hard drive is damaged and is clicking or not spinning up/not readable there is not much that you can do from a DIY standpoint. There is some specialized software and equipment that can be used to recover data but that is something you would probably have to pay a data recover service to do for you. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Small tip: On a drive from a Windows XP, all of the users and user data are in the "Documents and Settings" folder. It may have just been my computer though. Also, I have a w7 drive that I can't get permission beyond the "Users" folder. That is, I can see the users, but can't do anything beyond that.
you are correct, Windows XP is "documents and settings". As far as permission, right click on the user folder, go to properties, then security, then edit, then "add" and type "everyone" and click "check names". The Apply and ok, then you should be able to get in
Thanks for this great video! I purchased an IDE adapter and was able to follow your instructions very easily (I know very litte about hardware), but when I went to transfer the files from my old hard drive, I found that at least half of them were missing. Does this mean my old hard drive crashed and the files were lost? I had to do this because my old laptop simply would no longer boot up.
very helpful how u show different things u might need for the two diff type harddrives. but if u get that universal kit isnt that all u need whether its a sata type or ide type if we are talking about laptops only since ide desktops have a different connection type
Really excited to have found this video! I just have one question though, and I apologize if this a dumb question because I am really new to this, but, my laptop died from a dead fan which I found out having no fan can lead to serious damage. So my question is, is this still something I can do to recover my data? Or is my data ruined because my laptop overheated?
Valerie Hart It depends on how damaged it is. Sometimes the hard drive is just not readable and in that case you would have to send it out to a data recovery center. However, you would have to REALLY want that data because data recover can get expensive!
SSLFamilyDad Thank you for your feedback. I am not tech savvy by any means but I am thinking about trying this. I appreciate your awesome video! Best Wishes! :o)
this video is absolutely lifesaving…I feel like I could cry! my laptop from high school broke and it has all my old pictures on it I thought they were gone for good 😭 ps. can they only be transferred to a like computer? or would it work if I tried uploading the files to my MacBook?
