Thanks for this video! I’m about to redguard my bathroom and it was very helpful. I do have 2 questions I hope you can help me with though. 1. How do you handle the drywall joint between the ceiling and walls? I saw you used redguard right up to the ceiling but how do you seal that joint? I know you’re not supposed to use redguard over joint compound so I’m confused as to how I should tape that joint and if I should tape over the redguard or under. Any tips? 2. Similarly, if I have a vertical butt joint between a redguarded shower wall and non-redguarded wall, how do I tape that joint if redguard does not adhere to joint compound? Thank you so much in advance for your help!
Taking the time to show the tools used is huge. So many content creators don't show this step. Very well done. Big fan of your IG and YT channels. You're going places!
It's fiberglass cloth, not tape / paper tape like for drywall. I think the idea is the redgard penetrates it and if there's any joint movements in the corners it is much less likely to crack because it's pretty much fiberglass reinforced *Edit* it's not fiberglass, but if you look at the link it's specifically designed for liquid membranes
CAREFUL!!! Excellent video EXCEPT there are warnings about serious lung damage if breathing Redgrd. Showing all this work BUT USING NO protective breathing protection may have legal liability issues. Viewer safety is critical! Might want to edit the video just a bit. Thanks!
This is awesome, thank you! My Mom is going out of town in a few weeks and I really want to surprise her with an updated bathroom. I'm always confident in my ability to make something beautiful, but as a novice I watch videos to ensure I'm adding quality. Videos like these give me that peace of mind. Thanks for all you do. 🙏
Don’t paint it? Roll it? That’s the same thing pretty much. Of course you don’t have to worry about the lines like when you paint. Also, i do 3 coats just to make sure!
I Just found you last week. Love your videos. Your videos are professional, very informative, to the point ( they don't drag out for 45 min) and you smile often., love your personality, You have become my favorite youtuber
GREAT VIDEO NEW SUB DOING MY RESEARCH IN DOING A SHOWER SO IVE BEEN WATCHING MANY VIDEOS JUST LOOKING WHATS THE BEST BACK BOARD AS THEY HAVE DIFFERENT KINDS PLUS IVE SEEN SOME R HARMFUL TO BREATHE WHILE CUTTTING ... PLANNING THE PREP PART ALSO ANY MORE TIPS U RECOMMEND
If the walls are wavy and your talking about 3/8 of an inch or more difference in and out. You can float the wall. Or you redo the wood studs so when you put the durock on you don't have to worry about anything
Thanks for the awesome, detailed tutorial! I really like the use of the fiber tape reinforcement on and in the corners! The use of the marine waterproof calking is a fantastic idea, suspenders and a belt, I love it! I was a building contractor well before these products were introduced and now that I'm retired I have become my wife's personal contractor, LOL! This really takes the mystery out of using this (and other) product(s) and allows me to set forth with confidence. For that sir I thank you very much!!!
DO NOT USE PREMIXED MORTAR OVER RED GUARD….even though every Home Depot and Lowe’s guy does. It says so in the Red Guard label AND premixed mortar labels!
Jesus, what, are you in the 90's?...Who still uses cement board? smh... Kudos for the good waterproofing though...I like the Mapei aqua defense...Better color.
For how outrageously expensive it is, I hope it works…just put it in my walk-in shower. Only thing is…how could you know how well it works unless you find out 5-10 years from now long after the fact?
Ahh dude i would have totally screwed it up. So glad i found you. Doing my first ever shower surround ever. Like tomorrow. On a second floor!.. i don't need leaks and this is by far the best video i have found. Thanks man subscribed and liked!...
Good video, just found you. Question, on the bottom where you stopped the Durock on top of the tub flange you ran a bead of the Hydro Ban and smushed in in with your fingers, How do you deal with this unevenness when you tile? Do you just float the tile over it, fill it with thinset to even it out? P.S. I have never laid a piece of tile in my life. But I plan on it. Thanks.
Extremely helpful, and entertaining my friend. Missed the 6" mesh link and waaay over paid for the redgard version. I've done a ton of floor tile, this was my first shower/wall tile. Thanks for the step by step!
What if your red guard cracked. how can u fix that? I used triton backer board and mortar with fiberglass tape over seams and then redguard but it got flaky in certain areas and even chipped up a little not a bunch but I’m scared
I have a shower that the tile floor is worn. I'd like to know do i have to tear out the sub concrete floor and put a new liner? i just want to replace the floor tile. Thx
Red hairs is a horrible product! Been using for years but have had fails. Look at tile coaches videos on it. He used in glass boss etc. it’s total crap
I've helped my mentor do a couple showers but never confident to do one on my own. The more videos I watch you explaining this the more confident I feel. I have to redo my own shower and figured I'd do that one on my own. Your videos are legit!! Thanks for being you!!
Your mentor, who you can meticulously study, who you can ask questions to, and who can assist you and correct you as you go wasn't enough to make you feel confident but some dude on RU-vid did the trick?
Perfect timing! Literally doing this to my shower this weekend. Thank you for the tips. I really appreciate the up close shots and the segment of the materials you'll need.
Yeah, I was going to ask.... Do you ever use the Primer Coat? I'm about to apply to Hardiebacker, and had heard this was a necessary step, as indicated in this comment.
Sorry bud but you can't read guard over taping mud what you did and you didn't do a three-to-one mix to make the primer and roll it with primer first sorry Nishi
I have a question. About the alkalinity of the tape and board. Wire tape doesn't interfere w the cement as far as alkalinity is concerned.. some.sort of chemical covering on it. Is fiberglass tape better ,?
A few questions: Any reason you didn’t red guard the ceiling? Would it be appropriate to use on a shower pan? Lastly would you ever use a separate system like Schulter over top? Thanks!!!
First time I watch your channel, been following you on IG for a few months already. Love your way of filming bro, definitely subbing and notification gang 😎
