“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

Husband here. The smell gets to me as well, and ik if my wife keeps hearing me complain she'll get too discouraged to go on. I believe in her and don't want that to happen, so I'm helping her look for solutions. Thank y'all for your suggestions! Ziploc bags, cross ventilation and an air purifier look like a great way to cut down on it

I use an air cleaner, Simple Human trash can ( these cans have tight lids), I keep the lid on my monomer as much as possible, I use the blue paper towels used for car dry for cleaning my brushes while applying acrylic (these paper towels are thick with great absorption) also I purchase several boxes of zip lock bags from Dollar Tree to dispose of my monomer filled paper towels! Taking out the trash immediately is a must...

Conversation starts at 4:27 5:30 cross-ventilation; open the windows, use charcoal filters, increase overall airflow 6:22 : close lids, get sealed containers to hold monomer, use ziplocks to contain smelly garbage & toss said garbage halfway through day 9:52 purchase a ventilation system (can be pricey) 10:22 just use gel. It's no-odor

I had this issue first getting into nails in my apartment. Couldn’t get the smell out even with the patio doors open. Switched to poly gel so I could still practice my application technique. Recently switched back to acrylic at my new place and bought a “manicure table” from Amazon w/ locking wheels to do my nails outside on the patio. Best investment Ever and allows me to work and take my time. Love these tips and will definitely try the zip lock method!

My husband gets really concerned about chemicals and me inhaling it. I’ve tried having a million windows open, but he’s too sensitive to the smell, plus we have a 2 year old. Sooo I either get sent to the garage where I have to keep the side door open for air ventilation or sent outside to the backyard. It’s hard doing nails at home. I start nail school in November, so I’m curious how that will affect things too.

I was locked up in my room doing my nails with acrylic, and I wasn't really noticing the smell too awful much, and my husband from the other side of the house yells out "what are you doing in there, it smells like you're trying to make meth or something!" (as if we know what it would smell like lol) and it was like when I had first started doing my own nails, so it took me FOREVER, I was just thinking he was being dramatic,.. until I went to have a bathroom break and almost passed out, like lost my balance. So I learned not to shut yourself up in a tiny room with no fan on or windows open or anything for lengthy periods of time! He was like ,"you need to throw that stuff away, there's nothing wrong with your plain old nails, just paint them if you have to do anything!" I'm all,"NEVERRRRRRR!!!" But I have switched to gel and polygel, I freaking LOVE it!!!! I was totally against "the dreaded lamp" I felt like it was an unnecessary purchase,.. lol, I was also strictly tiply, saw no need to sculpt and thought it would be way too hard and take way too long, in reality it's the opposite, and my nails are so much less bulky!!!! So glad you guys show all those gel videos, cuz you've changed my favorite medium, and my nails thank you for it!

I do a few things. First, I have a formaldehyde filter. (researching it , I found that the acrylic fumes and formaldehyde fumes are the same molecular size) This filter is amaze-balls for filtering out fumes. Second, (and I think this was advice from greg) I saturate a 2x2 cotton square with swipe, and place it under my paper towel that I blot and clean my brush with. So I am always blotting on top of swipe which disperses the fumes. Third, I wear nitrile gloves, and when I am finished with my application, I wrap all the paper towels and things that have monomer on them, up in the gloves and tie a knot in the glove before disposing of it. (kinda like stuffing a balloon and tying it off) Other things that are discussed here like, always corking off the monomer dish after use, and cross ventilation, and sealed garbage containers. All things that I do when working with acrylic. I worked with a hair girl that was super sensitive to the smell, and I had to find a way to reduce her reactions, or find a new place to work.

Acrylic smell has never bothered me. I do nails at home and while I never noticed the smell, I would notice it when I came home from being gone for hours. Turns out I made the mistake of using a cloth towel underneath a paper towel when I work and that towel was holding the monomer smell after I threw the paper towel away. So I stopped using that and only use a paper towel when I work. Now the smell is completely gone when I’m finished.

Originally, I wanted to use a Diaper Genie, or they have one for cats too, but its pricey. If you have small kids and happen to have one, you're good to go (my babies are all grown). I think it would work great. Throw everything in, it twists and ties it up, empty when full, no odor! I suppose I could get one second hand, but for now I use the individual little plastic bags for diapers (also used for pets). Hang it on a hook off my table, everything goes in there during service, then tie it up and throw it out. 50 in box at the dollar store; colors in diaper aisle, black in pet aisle.

In school, I found a public available well known company, acrylic kit. It included a small vial of green apple scent to add a couple drops to the monomer. We were suppose to test out using odorless, but I didn't know that. My instructor didn't know I was using regular monomer with an added oil. When I found out I had done it wrong and told her, she was almost upset with me for admitting it. I had no problem redoing my work with the proper product and "passing" again. It is just still funny people right next to me couldn't tell it was regular. Will this be the next "great" product from YN? Monomer scent additives?

Yes its difficult but being thoughtful of how to control where the liquid is covers, containment, ventilation some fans really help when you combo it!

And if one of the reason to use acrylic, is to strengthen a super thin and weak nail, then you can use the slick pour.

I've tried the NCE low order monomer and it worked great when I was learning OR when doing house calls it works amazing, BUT you do know that it's totally different then reg monomer therefore if you treat it the same, it won't work for you..
@blesseddragonflynailart
@blesseddragonflynailart 2 года назад
How is it different?🤔
@mzchyn
@mzchyn 2 года назад
It's different because it's very slow setting low setting and you need very little monomer almost a dry brush that's how it's different than regular monomer It also leaves a dispersion layer after, that needs to be removed with alcohol you can't file it off but it can get your file log gunky

Since working with acrylic over the past few weeks I’ve had a terrible sore throat and my asthma has severely got worse 😟. I really love working with acrylic but my throat is so sore from doing one Infill this evening 🥺. Is this normal for a new student tech? The smell doesn’t bother me but maybe it’s the vapour?

Don't huff the monimor? Whaaaat? Doesn't that help with creativity? Just KIDDING! I Like the smell of the monimor also. Hubby not so much. I point a fan at him and sit behind him at a table, he doesn't notice any smell until he sees 👀 my stuff out. I tried plastic wrap over monimor, like Tracy said a cork works great. monimor evaporates when left uncovered, correct? Does it break down while evaporating?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 4 года назад
Hahah right!? Yes it's an acquired smell, and people get used to it. It does evaporate! That's why it good to use in small amounts and keep it in an air tight container like bottle.

I tell everyone to use YN but warn against the monomer. It’s the strongest I’ve ever smelled. I’ve only used it twice. I’m going to start doing my nails outside it so bad.
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc Год назад
Definitely trying to use ventilation is the biggest priority (turn on exhaust fans in the bathroom/kitchen etc if you're working from home), but if this still isn't working, keeping your monomer sealed is going to be crucial. When you aren't using the bottle, keep it sealed in a ziplock bag (maybe even double bag). As you are working, use the dampen dish with the cork. This way when you are finished, you can put the cork in and it will seal the smell inside. Also put your table towels that you've wiped your brush on in a ziplock bag and then into a covered trash bin if you can't bring them out to the trash right away. If all of these tricks don't help, you can purchase an air purifier or filter to clean out the air.

What if I spill Monomer on my carpet how do I get ride of the smell or does it evaporate?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 2 года назад
We would recommend soaking as much out of the carpet as possible to start. If it has already dried, you can try using a detergent/laundry soap and water to scrub as much of it as possible. Rinse with clean water and again try to absorb as much of the liquid out as possible. Using a high suction carpet cleaner may also help, as this may be able to pull out more of the moisture/chemical. After cleaning, if you still notice the smell, you may just have to let it evaporate.

I think what someone needs to figure out is how to get rid of monomer smell in a nail salon but keep cold air inside. I have read and read chat boards watched so many videos and it's the same crap over and over. Anyone that says there is no smell and it doesn't bother them is full of crap and they don't do nails for a living or they aren't human. My partner is a nail tech and is always having problems with headaches and nose bleeds and it bothers me that I haven't found a solution yet. The only thing I have came up with that would never work is if she wore a gas mask 1. open a window or door.. yeah yeah tried that but it gets shut after about 5 minutes because doors and windows need to be shut if you like air Conditioning when it is over 80 degrees outside. I even have an exhaust fan in the back of the shop and my air conditioning can not keep up and my electric bill was 600 dollars one month while running it 2. Buy an air purifier... yeah tried that too spent like over 1000 dollars on a aerovex whisper piece of garbage smell still there doesn't help. Very little information on different types of ventilation machienes most of them have wheels and are portable and alot of them only capture dust not monomer smell. I honestly don't know what to do I have spent so much time trying to find something that will work and I have zero results if there is anyone that has some kind of idea for me I don't know what else to do. I've spent a crap ton of money on power bills trying to remove air from salon and over a 1000 on machiene I've bought candles I've put all monomer in bottles with narrow spouts that close when not being used I could really use someone's help
