Good morning.... Soya beans is good for snails but you have to be careful as it can as well make snails to bloat and can cause their eventual deàth. So, rather, instead of giving them soya beans alone, it's advisable to give them formulated feeds
Thanks for this detailed information again. My question is: will feeding snails with sweet potatoes without mixing it with calcium or other proteins not causing them to bloat.? Also, I just constructed additional two concrete pens to experiment rearing in soil less and mulching with sacks since plantain leaves are reducing in my farm now as a result of dry season. My second question please: can snails survive in the concrete pens without soil? Lastly, I have these tiny ants that feed on the ripe pawpaw or watermelon served to the snails.is there any remedy for this? Your response will be highly appreciated!
First, sweet potato has a very low tendencies to make snails bloat, simply because while they have a good level of starch and carbohydrates, they also contain a good level of fibre, fibre is extremely good for digestion both for humans and snails, so this prevents the issues of bloating in snails. Meanwhile, if you're still worried you can introduce leafs and veggies in between the meals because leafs/veggies are also good in fibre, and this aids digestion. But I can tell you, potatoes does not cause snails to bloat due to the aforementioned fibre factors. And as for the concrete pen and sacs for snail farming, it's an interesting system of farming and the snails would do extremely well if the farm is set up properly and management effectively. We also train on how to convert concrete pens to soilless and leafless snail farming. I hope I answered your questions sir?
@@BonniehoodFarms Perfectly answered! My Problem is that of distance, I would have loved to visit you but since I'm in ikorodu Lagos. What about the small tiny ants/insects that feed on leftover food. What can I use to eradicate them without harming the snails.
Oh, that is not normal.... It's obvious they lost appetite. What you can do to increase their appetite is try and do snail bath with Oyster or clams shell calcium supplements and clean their pen and get rid of tiny ants or insects in it. Then start them up with a succulent fruit like watermelon or pawpaw while added good amount of Oyster or clams shell calcium in the food. After eating they are expected to grow their appetite to eat most of the goods they have rejected. So, at this time, you can try those goods again and give me a feedback.
