SIDE NOTE: If the production standard preset does not work for you and you want to compress the file size even more, then I would recommend using another output format such as Fast 1080p30 or Very Fast 1080p30. This should do the trick for normal video use 😊 Any questions just let me know.
While viewing the preview for a preset, it shows at the top like 86 percent of the original size , is it the resultant size of the file i am gonna get? Plz tell.
Thanks for the video. I have two questions: 1. Do I see it correctly that your video is 12 seconds long with an original size of 1,3 GB? How is that possible? 2. I applied the same settings to my 10 GB, 63 min long mp4 video with 2802x1440 resolution but I stopped the encoding because at 16% progress (which produced a video containing the first 10 minutes eventually) the file size was already 2,5 GB which is certainly very far from your result of compressing 1,3 GB into 38 MB, in fact the file size would have grown to like 15 GB if I extrapolate this progress. What can be the reason? Thanks!
I just want to say thank you so much, I've been searching non-stop all day to make my file size smaller and nothing was working until I came across you. You've made life so much more easier!!! I'm definitely gonna keep using this as much as I can :)
This may be a silly question, but how is the video file able to be compressed in terms of size while still keeping its quality/audio? Is there anything being lost in the compression process?
Hi thanks so much for the detailed video tutorial, could I ask what is an alternative video/audio downloader could I get aside from Uni converter from Wondershare? Thank you in advance.
All compressed videos will be suitable to upload/watch to RU-vid. It might be worthwhile using the RU-vid/Vimeo presets though, as Handbrake optimises the video especially for those platforms. P.S I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful and straightforward😊
Simple language, simple tutorial, thank you! There is a subtitles tab also in there, is there a way that Handbrake can generate subtitles that can be extracted as a separate file? Thnx😍
Halleluyer! Just what I needed and succinct. I got some performance videos back from a producer and they're super beefy at 4-6 GB each for a 4 minute performance?!? They were gobbling up storage - I'm so happy to have found your videos. Thank you.
This is Bizarre, I followed exactly the same steps as you did. Done it 3 times now and same result. Instead of reducing the file size, it has dramatically increased it. I started with a 350mb file from my dash cam (.MOV) file and its converted into an MP4 that is 469mb! I did exactly as you've demonstrated, set the quality slider to 22 as suggested. What on earth am I doing wrong?
My file went from 687 mb to only 563 mb (2160p 1 min video) any idea why? How can I make it smaller even more? The video is 2160p 25 fps only a 1 minute and it's not making sense to be 563 mb
Hmm that's strange. To compress it further you could opt for another preset (such as Vimeo RU-vid HQ 2160p60 4K:), choose the H.265 encoder (as H.265 files tend to be smaller and more compressed than H.264), or increase the RF number on the constant quality slider. Sometimes settings aren't a one-size-fits-all but adjusting the above should help your files become even smaller!
@@דניאלגבאי-כ4ס how was it going on? I have similar issue my file weights 182mb and last 2 minutes, it's OBS recording with bitrate 16000kb and all what I got using Handbrake was 90 mb instead of 182mb. I'm curious how to reduce it 10x times or more. I used different programs and I got approximately the same size after compressing. If I want to compress more I will start losing quality.
Hello, thanks so much for sharing the video. I although am unable to now send / attach it to an email. It gives me the option too when i right click on the video but nothing happens? Any advice on how i can send it? thankyou
Hello! I recorded a class at my yoga studio. It is 6.95GB, my software where I can rent out videos of our classes only allows 10MB. I've used your tutorial but it only reduced it to 5.04GB. How do I get it even smaller, without losing quality? Is that even possible? Thank You!!!
Hey! 6.95GB to 10MB is a hefty jump but if you try another output setting such as Very Fast 1080p30 or Fast1080p that should reduce it. Alternatively you can also put the compressed version through Handbrake a second time to try and get the size right down. Hopefully this works for you - let me know how you get on. P.S I'm a yoga fan so Namaste :)
Thanks, I'm new to Handbrake and looking tips. JW, can Handbrake merge multiple videos while compressing them at the same time? I'm trying to make one long family video out of 4 or 5 videos. Thanks again.
I don't believe you are able to merge videos in Handbrake - I'm afraid (unless there is a secret feature that I am not aware of!😅). It is probably best to compile the videos together in an editing software first, export the entire video and then compress the final file.
@FeverDaysCreatives thanks, I've come to that realization as well. But I compress them first using Handbrake, then use VideoPad to merge them together. Seems faster this way to batch compress all the files first so they don't take as long to merge them later. Thanks again 😃
Hmm that is strange! It may be worth checking the settings in the dimension tab to ensure that they are correct for your clips' resolution/aspect ratio and that the rotation value is set to 0.
Interesting, I was really looking forward to the outcome. Great video, but it did not work for me. I started out with a 100 MB Quicktime file and ended up with a 186 MB MP4. Followed everything you did.
Even though your settings did not work out for me since it made bigger my video, I tried with other settings and then I got the size I needed. Ty so much for this awesome video!
Hi! I tried it one time and it didnt work. Can u help me convert a 425 MB size to 90-10 MB size? Thanks if u can help me! (it is for a low- power social media that can only upload 100 MB size)
Hey! I’m not too sure which file size metric you mean by ‘mo’ and ‘go’ but if you want your file to be compressed even smaller then it might be worth playing around with the output preset settings. If production standard doesn’t work, you could try one of the other presets eg Fast1080p or VeryFast1080p. That should do the trick!
Hmm strange, those settings have always produced a smaller file size for me! 🤔 Try changing the encoding preset from production standard to Discord Nitro. There are different Discord Nitro presets based on your video duration and resolution but overall they are all designed to produce super super small file sizes so that should work. Hopefully this works for you, let me know how you get on!
hello there! your video is very helpful but can you please helpme how can I edit the whole folder with like 20 videos in it? i tried drag drop the folder but folder showing empty so I need to edit 1 by 1. thank you so much in advance
When compressing more than a single file, like when the source choice is "File". Only the first video will appear in the "title" field. To accomplish what you're describing we have to bring the Queue into the process. Just to the right of the open source button there is a button that read " Add to queue". Pressing the arrow on the left edge if the "Title" field reveals all the titles in the folder, but Handbrake can only process them one at a time. This is where the Add to button comes in. Work your way down the file list, and when that title shows in the Title field, press the Add to Queue button. To the left of the Start Encode button you'll find a Queue button. Open that to double check you've selected all the files desired. If that looks OKay, feel free to use the Start Queue button on the left side of the Queue list. Hope this helps.
Hey John, this depends which phone/operating system you are using. If you are trying to compress videos/photos on your phone I would recommend apps like Shrink.Media, Image Size - Photo Resizer, Capcut etc.
You can still compress longer videos in Handbrake however depending on your computer spec and output preset, it may impact your overall processing time. I suspect your encoding time will be quite slow due to the duration of the video!
You did nothing wrong, there's no way a 1gb video drop down to 30mb without major quality loss lol. Check other peoples comments the people who actually tried have the same problem.
i have tried it that way. i put it standard it brought my from 3gb to 6gb on fast and i even lowered it to slow. still it went up higher. i can't get my files lower then 500mb
If the production standard preset isn't as effective for you, then you could try one of the other presets eg Fast1080p or VeryFast1080p. This should help get your file size super low!
I have tried everything. it makes them even larger. if you put it on snails pase for 1 to 3 gbs it puts it too 530 mb for 3 and half days. Even in small files like you did in your video. it puts 70 mb to 120 mb for 10 to 7 minute video with the same settings. Even on a slow pase. i don't know how you did it. Even on the smallest preset. @@FeverDaysCreatives
Aw how kind of you - thank you! 😀 Haha repeating filler words like "but" has become a bad habit! It is probably a nervous thing too, as I am still working on my camera confidence.
I don't know why they always put slow videos for the final result, because they don't test with videos of many movements, for example with bushes or trees, that's where the final result is seen, if it is not pixelated. so dislike
I have used these settings on action scenes (sports, dance etc) before and they have worked just fine for me. I only included one video example as I didn't want the tutorial to go on for too long, but I will take your feedback on board for next time and show different examples!
I don't know why, but in all the video tutorials on the tube, the things you show have nothing to do with reality! file size 157 MB. I could barely get it down to 139mb. and with an obvious loss of quality!
Hm that is strange, these settings have worked fine for me over the years. If not, you can try use another output preset such as Fast 1080p30 - that should bring the file size right down.
The size of a video clip can massively vary due to resolution, bitrate, frame rate, compression etc so depends! The clip I used in this video is just a general example showcasing what handbrake can do. Obviously there are other settings you can use to compress files even smaller - just have to see what works for you.
