@@indeahsawyer3617 I later realised that water is cheap to in the summer, and I thought hard about this as a youngster. To this day I've seen washer fluids still selling like a hot product even in the hottest climate.
Thank you for helping teach an old dog a new trick. My experience with cars is limited to 60s/70/s models, and our friend asked me to help with her (relatively) new Ford Edge.
Either plain water or windshield washer solvent is suggested depending on where you live. If there is freezing temperatures water will freeze, so use windshield washer solvent there.
2 questions ; I lost my cap, is it still safe to fill up with water. And also is it okay to fill it with water if the car is running or do I have to wait a bit like the radiator ?
Hi Ali! Please be sure to use washer solvent, not water. You do not have to wait for it to cool like a radiator, but just be careful to not touch anything hot under the hood. You can call us at 1-800-NEW-FORD to order a replacement cap or visit your nearest Ford dealer :)
Great question! Depending on the type of vehicle you own, there should be a release lever inside your vehicle towards the left side of your driver panel. This is usually found closer to the floor. Pull that, then exit your vehicle and approach the hood. Gently slide your fingers between the hood and body of your vehicle (there should be appx 1" of room after releasing the interior lever) and you will find a secondary latch. Simply release the lever and your hood will unlatch. Most models will require you to use your other hand to lift the hood and securely insert the wand into the hood latch (think a kick stand on a bike). For specific information, please see your vehicle's manual.
If the temperature gets below freezing where you live, you cannot use water and must use windshield washer solvent. If the temperature never freezes then water can be used.
Omg thank you for asking this question! I had just filled mines with water and freaked out when I saw the guy filled it with actual windshield wiper fluid.
My doughters car (focus 2014), the windshild washer reservoir only works if is full, after press for wash for 5 or 6 times (quick), need to fill again, and the problem is, only fit 6 or 7 ounces, but if doesnt fill, it not works. Do you know whats going on? I´m sorry for my english.
Hi Rob, there is just one water solvent reservoir for both the front and the back and it's located in the engine compartment at the front passenger side. Good luck!
No, please do not use plain water. It can freeze and ruin the system. You can find windshield wiper fluid at almost any grocery store or gas station for very little money.
Hi Charli - you should be able to see the fill line when you look into the receptacle. If you filled an entire gallon of windshield washer solvent, you'll be good for a while, even if it isn't completely full. Thanks for checking out our channel!
I added water too and now nothings coming out when i try and wash it. What do i do. Ps. Its a very cold and snowy day but i check the water and it hasnt frozen up.
He was in a mechanic shop, why didn’t he use a funnel to avoid all that splash. To those who doesn’t have a funnel, he could had recommended to cut a plastic water bottle in half and use the top end as a makeshift funnel. Also clean your hands after all that splash back, that fluid is poison and you don’t wanna accidentally ingest it if you decide to go eat a hamburger.
You're absolutely right - this video was made 10 years ago and we've since redone it with the funnel :) Thank you for watching and the valuable feedback!
Hi Fredo, If it's not working after you have filled it then there might be a crack in your line or something else that has gone wrong. You can bring your car into Brighton Ford (www.brightonford.com/) and we can try to see what is causing this issue. Have a great day!
When you refill your washer fluid in your engine compartment it automatically refills both front and rear washer fluid. Give us a call if you have any more questions at 810-227-1171.
The washer fluid refill tank is in the rear tail light. You need to pour it into the rear tail light and it will automatically drain into the tank. Hope this helps.
If the temperature doesn't go below freezing where you live you can use water, but it's always suggested to use cleaner to make sure your spray tubes stay as clean as possible!
I have a clear fluid in it right now not sure if its water or has alcohol in it but was gonna put in green washer fluid but dont knw if it will effect it negatively or ruin it....... anyone knw?
Hi Vertt - water is not recommended! It can freeze - please use washer solvent (windshield washer fluid). Using a funnel will help avoid the splashing though :)
If you live in a cold environment water will freeze, the ice will expand, and it could break the tank. If you live in a hot environment it'll just evaporate so you'll always need to refill it which we're in a drought so don't
Also hot temperatures with a running vehicle makes the water evaporate, so too hot or too cold is bad, that's why it's usually just best to use windshield wipers fluids because they are temp sensitive and last longer (more viscous)
If you live somewhere warm, where the temperature never gets close to freezing, then water will work. Our dealership is in Michigan, so we have to use windshield washer fluid that doesn't freeze.
Hi there - considering you know the term "fuel tank" and not "I poured winshield washer fluid into the gas hole" we're assuming this is a joke. If you're serious, give us a call at 1-800-NEW-FORD to have your vehicle towed to us. Thanks for watching!
