Yo, stick the bucket up above the fill valve. When you get to the end, and the pressure has neutralized, it'll continue to siphon coolant into the system until it runs out of the other port on the tool. That ensures it's completely full at the end without having to pour more in! I mix coolant in an old 2 gallon pump sprayer that the pump went bad on, it's the perfect size for most cars, and easy to fill.
@chuckdearruda6271
@chuckdearruda6271 3 года назад
Good idea also to let bucket siphon before attaching hose to the valve. That way when valve is opened, almost no air is in the hose.
@kingofbytes
@kingofbytes 3 года назад
I hadn't tried that - next time! You can 'reprime' the tool when you're close to the end and repressurize a bit futher. When I used it, I needed to put 2.5 gallons in. The initial prime only put in about 2 gallons. I had to repressurize anyway to get the rest in. No problems whatsoever.

Nice video! I totally agree on using this type of tool to leak check and quick fill a cooling system. I used a UView 550000 Airlift in two my videos when I replaced the cooling system hoses and water pump. It fills the cooling system in just two to three minutes. Keep up the great work!

I've had this exact tool for about 5yrs now. No issues with it at all. However, I have been bit in the bass by thinking, "it held a vacuum so I have no more leaks.". Corrosion on a pipe inside a hose. In a vacuum it held but under pressure it would leak. I now always put a pressure tester on before releasing a vehicle.

Anouther great video. I drive truck for a living and my old truck had a coolant leak. They hooked a much bigger version of that vacuum pump to the reservoir and a feed line to the draincock. They then back fed the coolant through the draincock to fill the block and radiator from the bottom. I think it took 10-12 gallons of coolant.
@richardmoreno5160
@richardmoreno5160 3 года назад
Ok on some vehicles its tought to get all the air out with a vacuum tool. I have noticed that if you pull a slight vacuum then prime the hose with new coolant it removes all the air thats in the hose coming from the bucket. Because if you noticed that once you opened the valve to introduce the new coolant it pulled in all the air from the empty hose. Just a little info if needed. From one technician to another. Thanks take care.

A tool like this is shown for a 2012 Chevy Cruze. While it is currently outside my budget it would help with me forgetting to open the top plug to let air out of the radiator when refilling. I usually figure it out when the heater won't heat. While this particular Cruze is a money pit it does offer lots of repair experience (like I need this at my age).

Thank you, Faye. I appreciate your videos for their content and clear content and instructions. Love your personality and enthusiasm too. I do have one question, at what point did you remove the vacuum tool from the radiator? Does the tool stop intake of coolant on its own? Thank you, again and please keep those videos coming.
@FayeHadley
@FayeHadley Год назад
I removed it once the pressure went back to zero! Yes, when the system is almost entirely full it will no longer have a vacuum on the system, so coolant will stop to flow through the tool and into the rad. After I remove the tool, I just top off the radiator!!!

You hair is the color of the car sitting in your driveway. Looks great . What happens if you get some air in your system , I always thought it worked it way out . But maybe that was old school. Not sure if the new filler tank has a pressure relief . Oh and one dumb thought , could you collapse the radiator tubes?
@FD-dh2fu
@FD-dh2fu 2 года назад
I noticed that when you create vacuum it does not pull from the overflow tank? it the unit just purging the air from the radiator, then past the engine block "since you said it opened up the thermostat" and thus does it also pull or fill the heater core? Do you have the heat in the on position even thought the engine is off? Thanks again

Easiest way to do a coolant service but Idk if I would trust those cone shape coolant refillers due to the fact that they can come loose, I got a snapon refiller with the turn clamp cap and works awesome but for the price I heard these are pretty cheap since you can use them on any car and don’t have to have all diff kinds of clamp adapters for car manufactures.
