My entire wardrobe is unique personality pieces 😩 because I always feel like having a closet of basics will be boring but now I have a corporate job and can never find anything to wear 😅

Just add a few timeless basics and match em with the funky stuff! Fun patterned pants? No problem paired with a neutral black blouse and black accessories. Etc.

I love your advice but for my standard all of the pictures you used were “basic pieces” 😂 I very much consider red a neutral because it is so classic that ( if you have found YOUR shade ) it will never look dated ❤ and as someone who likes to take style risks and went to uni for costuming, a statement piece would be my peacock 🦚 coloured chevron fur coat, a vintage full beaded dress or my studded saint Laurent riding boots. I know everyone has a different level of minimal to maximal outfit approaches but personally I’d like a bit more diversity 💜

I like this concept and can that it cud work for many, n balance between both money n efficiency. But for me, I need 80% of my wardrobe to be personality pieces, I don't follow trends , but I don't like the timeless classics either. I hate basic pieces n it took me some time to understand that it's just not my personality. My personality pieces are my timeless pieces. I buy dem in such a way dat I can mix n match, layer, colourblock, play with patterns with all my clothes

Fashion now is just inspired and restyled 90s/00s fashion. I think she's trying to focus your attention on just the basic pieces and not necessary accessories and how it's styled for it being timeless. Take away the accessories, if you can wear it for decades and still "fit in" then it's timeless to me

@@staciii most of the "timeless" fits she showed are just plain neutral clothes in a current silhouette. A "timeless" combo of white tee + blazer + denim jeans + flat shoes would look wildly different in the 80s and now. Heck, it would be so different even if it was styled 10 years ago! If someone came in with a fitted blazer, skinny jeans and a white peplum top, would you consider that a classic? I would think they're stuck in 2013 and it's irrelevant if I like their outfit or not, still not timeless.

Yes!! Timeless is very hard to nail down. To me, timeless is something I loved, will love and will love. Not basic beige pieces. I think young stylists haven’t seen enough fashion cycles to understand that very little is “timeless” in terms of withstanding trends. If something has been is style for the last 5 years, they see it as timeless.

I buy what I like outside of trends. I look for shapes that work for my body type and avoid details that will date something. Unless I want it to actually be vintage and look “dated” like my early 2000’s DB purse.

Basic timeless doesn't exist. Let's take denim as an example: 10 years ago skinny was all the rage, 20 years ago you'd say bootcut is a classic, 30 years ago it was straight or baggy, 40 years ago carrot jeans were a staple. Just wear what you love and stop giving a ****. None of the fits you showed is timeless. They're just basic, bland pieces in a current silhouette. If you wore ballet flats 3-4 years ago it was going to be considered outdated, not a classic. Wearing them now might feel "classic" but it's actually just a trend

Timeless is a bit hard to pin down. If you can keep wearing something as silhouettes change over 20 years, it’s probably timeless

Yeah, like blazer fits have changed dramatically just in the past 10 years so they certainly aren’t timeless! But plain neutral leather ballet flats have been acceptable since like 1950, and you won’t look too ridiculous even if the trend for different toe styles has changed. Same with diamond stud earrings.

Jcrew I searched high and low for such a long time to find a shirt with the right sleeve length the right material and the right thickness and I ended up with the J.Crew shirt. It hits at the perfect spot on your arm, and you can’t see through it I just ordered more yesterday.

You see I'm wanting to change my closet to be more elegant/whimsical so my timeless pieces would look like a chemise, stay/corset, skirts, blouses and some trousers. Wardrobe staples would honestly just be dresses that I layer on top of the timeless pieces. And I don't really incorporate trends in my outfits, since it doesn't really work nor do I see myself wearing it.

I don't understand the concept of "timeless basics" cause the style of basic jeans or a basic tee changes at least every 5 years or less. Neckline, sleeves, general fit (tight or loose fitting), jean style (high waisted, low waisted, skinny, wide leg, flair, light or dark wash) all change fairly quickly so nothing's really timeless. It's just on a longer trend cycle
