Thanks so much for sharing. I have been natural the past two years and my hair is naturally curly, but it got longer and thicker through my pregnancy. I've decided to relax it again because my shrinkage is real and so it can be easier to manage. I went bought everything u just used and can't wait to see my results. Thanks again!
Thank you!! My stylist's salon is closed in the wake of the pandemic. So, now I have to relax my own hair. I feel more confident now after watching a few tutorials here on youtube, including your video! Again, thank you!!!
Hey I love your hair I am doing a relaxer today because my hair has so much shrinkage that it won't stop staying matted down so it looks like my hair is really short but it's not I want some length thanks for sharing, I will relax again in six months so I can have a lot more new growth.
OK thats great. What relaxer do you use? And what is the longest you have gone without a relaxer? I have gone 9 months and wont do that again because I had breakage. Now I do every 3 months and I am going to push it to 4 months this time around.
Good video. Every time I used relaxer (lye and no lye) I got breakage. Its upsetting going thru this over and over. I am now natural and thinking of going relaxed again...
The breakage comes when you get new growrh in yr hair and part is straightened and part is not. All relexers and perms have formaldehyde which straightens the hair. This Avlon Affirms products seem to be the only relaxer ever to do things different and give us straight hair with harmful chemicals!!! Watch her video at tge beginning again, she says when she gets new growth, she wears a wig or braids until she wants to relax again. Because when you come yr hair with new growth, the straightened hair brakes off, so don't come until you retouch the relaxer on it.
Great job, your hair looks awesome...This is how I apply relaxer when doing other people's hair and when I did mine, it's how I was taught in Hair Tech training. Only difference in with hair products is that I don't like using the hair cream types. I use light oils, some are actually labeled 'feather light' and liquid moisturisers. People often said that it appeared I lived in the salon because my hair was so always well kept. I very rarely go to the hair salon because I do not have the patience or the time, plus, why go when I have the know how to do it myself.
Sabrina Parker wow I actually bought a semi permanent jet black hair dye yesterday, I used to do them years ago and I stopped. I plan on doing it In about two weeks.
With Affirm there's the 5 in 1 reconstructor that you use before you use the neutralizing shampoo, Affirm is a conditioning relaxer system. I have been using it for years... I am sure some people may just buy the relaxer alone and and apply it as they like but I have always used the full system and my hair is left feeling so soft :)
Cunning Mom I have a question when you say that you wash the relaxer out is that just with water before applying the Sustinence or do you use actual shampoo
Nice video! Is this line available anywhere for purchase by non-cosmetologists? I can never seem to find it and none of the hairstylists near me use it. When I go onto Amazon, I keep reading so many horror stories about non-authentic products being passed as the real deal.
Go to ienjoybeauty.com it's waaaayyyy cheaper and the activator comes with it. I also bought Affirm's scalp protectant too as well as the pre-relaxer by Affirm it's called Protecto. Sorry if it's posting more than once this phone is acting crazy.
Judy Walker Thank You! I just got off the site and unfortunately I only see the regular Affirm Relaxer (they do not have the Affirm FIBERGUARD formula relaxer). Hopefully it’s just out of stock but I’ll check back later. I appreciate the help!
You don't necessarily have to use the Fiberguard. I use the Affirm Sensitive Scalp formula. The regular Affirm is just as good. The Fiberguard is for really damaged hair or hair that is super long.
Mariposa Espirito yes you can purchase from Amazon just make sure the seller is Avlon. That’s where I get mine. I also have contacted a beauty supply near me and asked them to order it for me. Also my cousin is a hair stylist and she has ordered for me in the past as well... that’s before I started Ordering it from Amazon.
Can you still use the rest of the relaxer for the next application if you don’t need the whole pack or do you have to buy another one because you opened it already?
Avlon is the brand... it’s Avlon Affirm Fiberguard Relaxer I like the Fiberguard better because it does not leave my hair bone straight, I like the fuller texture it leaves.
Hi there, you have a lovely head of hair❤️. My stylist uses the Avlon Affirm relaxed in my hair but I am thinking about doing it myself due to this virus, can I switch safety from Avlon Affirm to Avlon Fiberguard without damaging my hair?
Hi! How long does that large tub of relaxer last you? Does it take a while before it expires? I want to buy it, but afraid it may expire before finishing it.
Lea Greenpastures I still use Affirm. I don’t have thinning of my hairline. I do have breakage on my back but Someone recommended starting relaxer from the middle as oppose to the nape of the hair to avoid breakage around the edges, which I will do with my next relaxer.
Do you actually buy your products on amazon? I am so nervous about buying hair products online. I have heard some crazy stories where the product isn’t what’s in the bottle.
Nicole Guy yes I get most of my products on Amazon. Shampoo and conditioner and oil I get from Walmart or local beauty supply because they are cheaper...everything else is amazon.
Would you say you have high porosity or low porosity hair? Where did you purchase your hair dryer. Your eyes are very pretty are they hazel or grey?? LOL..sorry for all of the questions ;D
If you are using a different brand relaxer you May be able to use conditioner and / oil as a substitute. They do say it’s a important part of the affirm system.
You did a great job. Thinking about doing my hair. It’s virgin hair how long do you think I should take for each section? Do you have any suggested strategies?
Hair and Beauty Chronicles I think five minutes for each section is best. Since you have virgin hair You will need to pull the relaxer through the ends of your hair. I would suggest you go to a salon for the first time and maybe you do your own maintenance.
Please sort of protective styles do you do weeks after relaxing and I relaxed my hair 2 days ago, when do I wash, deep condition and wear protective style and for how long. I also had a burn on my edges around my ears. Thank you
Emelia Appiah after I relaxed the only protective styles I do are buns to protect my ends. I don’t do crochets or wigs after I relax because I like to wear my hair out to show it off 😁 I start doing real protective styles that last 4-6 weeks about 5-6 weeks after relaxer when I start getting a lot of new growth. When you’re getting new growth is when you are more prone to breakage because of the two textures.
Lovely hair and brilliant informative video. Can I just ask I’m planning to relax soon with this line but do you have to comb the relaxer into the new growth? I’ve always just smoothed it. Thanks
The way you are doing your relaxer is the reason why professional beauticians tell people not to do it yourself. You needed a brush and get your sides and back , behind the ear properly. You missed the roots, sides, back and behind the ears. Sista, I've done great relaxers and I know that yours was not done well. My family including my mother were professional Beauticians who were very good at their profession. Anyway, it's your head, your results! After a relaxer you are supposed to use a strengthening conditioner, then wash that out and use a neutralizing shampoo , then shampoo again with a moisturizer repair shampoo, then conditioner under the dryer for 10 minutes. Then wash out and spray hair with heat protection so hair won't break off ! Relaxed hair needs bonds build way back up! If you care for your hair properly it will serve you successfully! Your hair looks like natural hair blow dryer. Does not look like a relaxer!
The Normalizing shampoo do much more than just remove relaxer residue from the hair...infact, the effect and benefits of each component in the system needs to be understood. Do you know and understand the PH scale? Do you know what the hairs natural PH is supposed to be? If you're not a professional stylist or a certified Avlon instructor you should not be giving tutorials on Avlon products. The Fiberguard reaxing system is a superior relaxing system compare to other relaxers. It has a patented technology that is crucial to explain and understand. Something you have not explained. Avlon has a data base of trained certified professionals around the country who uses their products. You are not doing this product any justice. You need to explain how this particular system benefits the anatomy of the hair, it's not just a typical relaxing system. As a license professional and a trained Avlon instructor I would never recommend someone doing their own relaxers wether its Fiberguard or any other relaxer. It's videos like this why I and hundreds of stylists get a lot of clients coming in with extremely damaged hair. This is something we stylist talk about all the time when we go to our classes for on going education. This is a real problem in our community. It's frustrating because our women are loosing their hair in many cases due to these tutorials. You might be good at doing your own relaxer but I can assure you there are far more people that are not.
Furthermore. Never use a pin tail comb to relax hair. If you understood the system you would know once you use sustenance there's no need to condition again. Reason being, once you've used the Normalizing shampoo, all the bonds are sealed the conditioner will no longer get to the cortex of the hair where all your chemical changes took place. Sustenance already did that.
What is the purpose of your comment? I honestly did not even read it all because I have no time for the negativity. It is not my job to sell this product I am not being paid so I don’t need to explain everything and I don’t claim to know everything. I am just someone that has been treating and maintaining my relaxed here for over 20 years. And I am just sharing what I do and what I know. If you have a problem with that scroll by my video and move on no need to come on my channel with the negativity. Now you have a blessed day.
