this comment is old so this may be a shot in the dark but i am planninig on doing the same but i would like for every song after the first one i drop to automatically be with the other song but i want to make sure that if i do that it wont mess anything up given that i will have to do the reupload proccess many times i dont really want any of the songs as singles but its not fully done yet so i have to do it this way if you could please help lol

It can’t be an exact duplicate. You can either remove the previous release, or edit the artwork to be sightly different.

I’m “cheating” a little bit at Songtember by starting my Songtember song a week early. My challenge for myself this year is to create record and release the song BY September 2nd or even 1st - which, despite me calling it “cheating,” is actually harder because there’s only five days to do that 🤯 But I really want the song to release through Amuse within September, which is only (hopefully) possible if I submit it on September 1st or 2nd (it would then presumably release on September 29th or 30th). I don’t want to upload anything to RU-vid directly and don’t currently have the money for anything like DistroKid. This song is catchy af though lol I’m calling it Songtember 2: “Electric MooMoo”

Hey there. Each release has its own artwork. So your EP or Album will have one cover. And the single will have a separate one. It’s just like if you were releasing a physical music item.

Hi Pete - Another great video! I use "another" distributor, but the process (as you noted) is quite similar to what you show us in this video. My question is sort of related. I noticed that your various songs have a different number of stores/platforms listed beside them. Was that ayour conscious decision to do that? I've often wondered what would make an artist *exclude* any of those stores from a release... especially if you're paying for the service. Wouldn't you want to always have it on as many platforms as possible all the time?

Hey Paul. Good question my friend. This is actually more reflective of the stores that are added and removed over time. What I should do is go back in there and update to release to all available stores, although some older songs actually have more stores because they were availale then but no longer.

I don’t think it makes much difference. Makes more sense to me having both the single and album versions available.

Hey Pete! Thank you for helping us out with your good videos. What you explain in this video is exactly what I want to do soon, but before doing so I tried out a re-upload through DistroKid using my old ISRC number. With that method I should keep my former stream counts, shouldn’t I? Is that something what needs a bit of time to re-appear? Because right now I am on zero counts. I re-uploaded last Monday and from today it appears in Spotify. I actually tried this out - before assembling a album - with a song which needed replacement with also a relative low count number. Hey there. The system is pretty imperfect. It should sync to your previous plays but there’s no guarantees.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Hi Pete, since today this particular song updated to its original numbers. So it works! Thank you. Did you mention somewhere that you can only update it once? This was my idea: I rebooted this one song because of a similar glitch like in your song from the tutorial. This song is part of an album (to come). I released 6 songs, movements as we classical musicians say, as singles. I want to group them in an album but before this I wanted to replace every single one with the last version with a slightly better mastering. So is this a good idea: first replace the singles with the remastered version and then schedule for 2 weeks later the album version (with the same remastered singles of course) like you discuss in this particular tutorial? I hope I am clear with my question. And why this schedule? I want to do some ads with the remastered singles before the album launch. One of the songs featured already in an editorial Spotify playlist. In the end the album release would immediately start with some good numbers. What do you reckon?

You can remove them or leave them. There’s really no major issues with having multiple versions of the same song released.

You can release an album and then individual singles separately as well. But you can’t do what some of the bigger artists do which is have an album with some tracks greyed out for future release.

Thanks so much for this vid:) I'm planning on releasing a lead single for my album at first and adding an additional single to it after a bit so that they both appear on the same tracklisting as if it were an A-side and B-side and then release the whole album with both those singles on it. This would mean releasing the lead single, then re-releasing it with the "B-side" and then releasing it again for a final time as part of the album, this time not deleting the "single avec b-side" version but releasing both with the same ISRC code so that they share the same streams. Do you think releasing that first single 3 separate times with the same ISRC code will piss off the fat cats down at DistroKid?

Hey there. So it all boils down to the fact that as long as you don’t have two releases with the same tracks in the same order you’re golden. Makes releasing singles and then EPs quite a good way to go.

So Pete, quick question. So to be able to bundle the singles into an album, you have to leave the singles as singular releases even after you've bundled them into an album release? Meaning, you shouldn't delete the single (releases) after the album is made?

Awesome video. Thank you :) One question , So when you re-release these singles as an album or EP, does it also take down/delete those original single tracks you've released already ? OR are they still there on the streaming platform as single tracks AND also as tracks that are part of the EP/album? Hope this makes sense :)

They remain up as singles unless you remove them. You can have single, EP and album versions of the same song up there with no issues.

You can release individual songs as singles and then release them all again as an EP or album. Or do this the other way round. But keep in mind that they are treated completely separately.

Question: what happens to the previous single released? Does it remain out there as a single and inside of the full length album? What about the art work does it disappear once you release the full album?

Thanks, this help a lot! What would be your advice if I didn’t like the sound of my singles on Spotify , I want to bring up the bass. Can I simply mix the bass up a little on the full album release and still link each song to the original single song code? Or do I just have to upload the full album and lose the play counts? Each song only has a few streams but I was starting to get some momentum going so don’t want to lose that. Thanks for all the tips!

Hi Pete, this is a great tutorial, thanks. Quick question. I have released 3 singles, and now would like people to pre order the album so that you can also see the album artwork, all the track titles and be able to play the 2 released singles - but the rest would be greyed out until the release date. Can this be done through Distrokid? Also, not all of the tracks are mastered yet, but will be in January ahead of the release in March.

Hey there. Unfortunately not. Once you have all the tracks done you’ll need to upload new versions of all the audio files to distribute the album. It won’t be connected to the original singles as every release is separate. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Hi Pete, Thanks for the helpful video! I have one question though. I tried to see if someone already asked the same question in the comments, but I don't think someone has. At 11:16 you are at the 'Extra's' part. I was wondering if you know that if you already chose 'RU-vid Money' and 'Shazam' when you released the songs as singles, if you have to select this again when you release the songs as an EP? Hopefully you or someone else can help me with this!

Hey there. So, the two versions are treated completely separately so you can choose to add extras to the EP or album version. However, for RU-vid Content ID, if the song is exactly the same as the single version then it won’t need it added again.

hey pete, thanks for the super helpful video, and sorry if this question was already asked, i had a look but couldn't find it. if I choose to delete the old single releases after re-releasing them as an EP, will the playlist placements of those singles automatically be lost or is Spotify clever enough to handle the allocation of songs into their playlists based on ISRC-code, meaning that it will not matter if I delete the old releases? thanks in advance for your reply :-)
