I bought my ATG to help my daughter with handmade wedding invitations. Got through that project successfully. Then had issues and put it away for several years until becoming addicted to your 6 x 6 videos. Would love a basic use video including how to start/stop, how close to the edge to place the tape, what kind of surface to work on, etc. Thanks for your inspiration and your kindness to the elderly!

This is such a coincidence! I was just looking at these guns on Amazon and reading the reviews. Most of the bad reviews addressed how hard it was to reload this gun. Some complained about the tape falling off the rollers and getting tangled up while others couldn’t seem to get coordinated with the trigger. I passed on it thinking that I didn’t need that type of aggravation. I checked back on You Tube and this video was in my in box! I saw how you loaded it, addressed the problem of the tape falling off the roller and how to fix any squeaking issues. I immediately went back and ordered one! Thank you for all the information. I’m sure this will change other people’s minds as well! Good job!

Linda Batson Wow! Good timing. Lol! I love my ATG and have used it for a long time. It is the most cost effective tape I have found. It does take some practice when you first try it. My 10 year old daughter has been using one of my extras for over a year with no problems. I hope you enjoy your new purchase. 🙂

Thank you so much for this video. I am definitely making a shim for mine. Thanks for showing us that!!!! I have two more issues I need help with though. I am having alot of what I call glue buggers that happens when I pull the ATG towards me to stop the tape it seems to snap off and create big bumps of tap that gathers together and I am also have an issue of getting the tape to go where I want it. It never starts or stops where I want it and I can't seem to get it close enough to the edge of the paper either. Everyone that I saw use the ATG including you make it look so easy! :) Maybe I need to practice on some scrap paper.

TheCajunBeauty here’s what I do: press the trigger, place on project and pull, release trigger, then lift ATG pulling slightly to the side to break the tape. Pulling up before releasing the trigger will cause the clumps of adhesive. Practice on some scrap paper.

TheCajunBeauty It’s takes practice to get the timing of squeezing the trigger, pulling back the tape gun, and releasing the trigger. Definitely keep practicing on some scrap paper. I have found that some brands of tape leave the clumps of adhesive. Again, with more practice, you can avoid those clumps. When I release the trigger, I pull back quickly and slightly upwards. 🙂

I love my Pink ATG too. One of my favorite tools! These are good hints and you explain everything so well! This thing comes in handy when I'm making my Christmas cards! That's when I go through the tape! Thanks for the demo, I really appreciate it!

Those path arrows on the background are often hard to see. I traced them with a black permanat marker so they are easier to see. Also, I use an empty tape spool (wheel) as a shim. I stack it on top of the new spool and close the 'door'. The 'door' helps hold it in place and it keeps the working spool running smoothly.

Melanie Cravens Great tips! The arrows do blend into the background. Using the empty spool wouldn’t work for me. My poor ATG has been well loved and sometimes the clear cover swings open on me. But I’m glad you found something that works for you. 🙂

Crafting a Planned Life Four of my ATG’s use 1/4” tape. I also have a yellow ATG that holds 1/2” tape, but I rarely use it. I prefer the 1/4” tape for card making. 🙂

Thanks so much for this video. You answered my question within minutes. I bought generic tape that keeps popping off the gun! Now I know why. It only has 6 holes🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I just followed the link and it says the 1/4 inch tape only has 6 holes.

If you have the pink ATG, be sure to select the 1/4" Pink Glider 714 dispenser option. The rolls have 12 holes vs 6 for the standard 1/4" tape glider.

I loved the idea of this and purchased some time ago. Have you got a way to change it for left handers...lol I cannot see the edge of the roller and therefore can't get the tape close to the edge! And I'm hopeless using my right hand for most things. Great video.

Barbara Hollow You are very welcome! The tape doesn’t work very well upside down. Remember to follow the arrows printed on the ATG as a guide. It is very helpful. 🙂

You would first remove the used paper roll on the right roller. Then just reload the partial roll exactly the same way you would load a brand new roll. It's so nice that you don't have to trash a partial roll if it accidently rips.😊

Kathy Lick I’ve never used anything to clean the used tape roller. I just pull off the extra adhesive with my fingers. I think GooGone would probably work though. 🙂

I really love this how-to video. I have an ATG gun, I use it all the time. My problem is the tape gets away from the edge, it goes towards the other side of the roller, and when I'm putting my tape on my paper it's get all wonky. It only bothers me because I'm worried that the edge that didn't get the tape, because it was wonky, might come up. Is there a fix for that? Or is that just something not to really worry about?

Dani Zig Maybe try using a shim. That may help keep the tape in the correct position on the roller. That would definitely frustrate me.

Great video. Great tips!!! My gun does not have the plastic piece on the used tape side, the right. Is that standard with them? It looks effective in keeping the used tape in place there. I have had to tangle and shoot outward on that side, creating a mess. Any pointers for that?

This was super helpful! I got an ATG years ago and learned how to change rolls from watching your videos! Even sped up, I was able to learn how to do it. I appreciate the fixes for common problems. I have never had a squeak, but the tape does fall off. I think your son could start a good side business making shims. :-) I ordered tape from TJ per your recommendation, and LOVE having it on hand. My ATG arrived yesterday I have the 700 model the yellow one and live in the U.K. with the model I have you can buy extra wheels to fit the tapes with a larger hole in the middle. Scotch tape is expensive in London. How much does it cost in the U.S.A.?

I go through a lot of tape as well Kristie! I have ordered two boxes ($150 box before pricing increased) over the past 5 years or more. Mostly use it on making albums as well as cards. Tape goes pretty fast when I’m making albums. I squirted in some silicone spray into the rollers on my “squeaky wheel” problem in the spring. Works wonderfully! Your son should sell those shims! I’d buy 4 of them! I have two scrap rooms….one in basement and one upstairs, so one each for those rooms. I have one in a tote for crops and I also have one at my friend’s house where I purchased a small set of tools to keep there when I scrap at her house. Her stairs to the basement are treacherous and my carrying things up and down for me with my big feet and weakened leg from a surgery over 12 years ago don’t go well on those steps. So, I just put together a tool kit to keep there……so that’s my 4th tape gun. Crazy aren’t I? 🤣. Great video on loading the tape and the little tips!

Hi, Kristie. I hesitate to use the tape runner adhesives. I like layers like you do, but have had them come undone over time when using the tape runners, so I usually use score tape and/or liquid glue on my cards. Have you ever encountered the “undone” issue? Maybe it was just the particular brand I used?

Sherri Baldwin My cards seem to stay together just fine when I use Tape Jungle’s tape. Other tape brands may not hold as well. The only time I’ve noticed pieces popping off is when I use specialty paper with a different finish. Pearlescent, satin, mirror, etc. I will use liquid adhesive then. 🙂

Debra Strohbehn I’m glad my video has been helpful for you. Four of my ATG’s use 1/4” tape. I also have a yellow ATG that uses 1/2” tape. I don’t use it very often though. The 1/4” tape seems to be the perfect width for me. 🙂

My ATG is so old school, it's red. They hadn't come out with the pink ones for scrapbookers back then. Mine also has rub-on decorations and my name on it. :) I remember you mentioning Tape Jungle in one of your videos quite a while ago and they are definitely a great price and the quality is comparable. I love Tape Jungle!! They're speedy on delivery, their refills are terrific, it is much more cost efficient than the craft store, and though I can't afford an entire case at a time, I go through a "subpack" in about two months. It's incredibly reassuring to walk into my craft room with ideas coming out my ears and see a dozen or more rolls stacked up on the shelf. Thank you for sharing! I have ordered this ATG because I figured it would be more cost effective for me. You had mentioned to me once that sometimes your roll of tape may break halfway through but you can still use it. How do you reattach the roll?

Barb Pederson You’re very welcome. The ATG is way more cost effective than any other tape runners I’ve used. And I go through a lot of refills every year. If the roll breaks, you just need to remove the empty paper backing on the right wheel. Leave the partial tape roll on the left wheel and just reload it as if it’s a new roll. 🙂

Do the tape rolls sometimes seem to be loaded wrong? I use tape jungle too. Once a roll starts to be problematic, the problems keep occurring for me. Tape jungle tape is better than some others I have used, but I still get really frustrated. The gun is working fine and then all of a sudden the tape is on the wrong side.

Kathy Patterson I have had a few rolls where the tape wants to start off on the wrong side of the paper backing. I just use my finger to pull off that adhesive and force it onto the correct side. Then it seems to work just fine. The next time I have a roll like that, I’ll record how I fix it. 🙂

Oh no! I've been using their tape for many, many years and rarely ever have a problem. Sometimes the tape wants to slip off the end of the roller, but using a shim takes care of that problem. I would suggest emailing Tape Jungle's customer service if my tips aren't helpful. They are very kind and may be able to offer other suggestions.

Kristie: I cant find the Pink ATG anywhere. Is the red ATG the same?

I can’t find the pink ATG either. I think it has been discontinued. The red one is the same as the pink. It was originally designed for framers so it’s a bit sturdier. I have one. The yellow one holds 1/2” tape unless you have the adapter for 1/4” tape.

The red ATG always cost more than the pink version. It is a bit more solid feeling. I bought mine years ago before the pink version was even available for crafters.
