If you forgot someone’s name, just say “Whats your name again?”. They’ll tell you their name and you say something like “Oh no, i meant your surname!”. It works because many people don’t care if you forgot their surname.
VA ARMY that could work but I have a long unique name so it can take a while for ppl to get my name right but if I ever meet someone new I can obviously tell when they are trying not to use my name. I suppose u gotta be more sneaky with it.

For me, I'm horrible at remembering names. I've been friends with someone for an ENTIRE YEAR once and I didn't know their name. Then they graduated. So I've got a list of things I do too: I ask them for their number (for studying questions and homework purposes) and then I give my phone to them and let them type their own name in my contacts. I wait for someone to use their name during a conversation or eavesdropping on another conversation. I listen during attendance. I wait for the teacher to call their name when they raise their hand I glance at their homework/paper/whatever(cuz you always write your name on the top of a paper) When we're in a group activity/project, I write my name down on the paper, then I give the paper along with the pencil to my partner, so my partner then follows what I do and writes their name then passes it to the next person so they write their name... Ect. That way, I can know the names of who I'm working with. In the meantime, I never call anyone by their first name for fear of getting it wrong. (unless youre a close friend of course)
