I didn't really understand everything. But here is an example: You have a 10 pages document and want pages 1-3 to be in roman and pages 4-10 in arabic. Then you need to put the cursor at the end of page 3 and insert a SECTION break. Now open the footer area of page 4, it should show you that this is now section 2 of the document. In the Header & Footer tools, uncheck the box which says "link to previous".

@@LeonRenner I really appreciate you responding. I will explain in more detail since I have no one to help me. I have to submit my thesis tomorrow, Monday 4/10. School is closed, and there's no IT support for word processing issues. I have Word 2016. There is NO Pagination for the Title, Signature, Copyright. and the Abstract , which totals 4 pages of blank numbers. The thesis guidelines require using ROMAN NUMERALS (bottom center) starting the next 3 sections: Table of Contents, Acknowledgements and List of Illustrations. Arabic# start with the Chapter 1: Introduction, and the rest of the document. I am embarrassed to say I spent 2 hrs Thru night & 2 hrs Friday night, and didn't get it right. In regard to page breaks, one video said to out the cursor at the first letter of the page you want numbered, but the result was that page was in Section 1 not Section 2-page break. I tried putting the cursor the page before and after, but it didn't work. Your video seems clear but it didn't work. My situation might be more complicated b.c. the first 4 pages are not numbered at all. Please tell me specifically where to put the cursor to appear at the bottom of the Table of Contents. A different issue is setting the MARGINS. The front matter and chapter titles have to be 2" top & other sides 1". I know I have to sue page breaks. My PC custom would set the margins for every page with 2 in. top. Obviously, I need to restrict the 2" top to specific pages. I know this is a lot of information, but I wanted to be specific and clear. I know it's Easter Sunday, so you may not be able to reply. I do hope to hear from you. I really appreciate your help. Hi Karen, you are still writing about page breaks… you need to make absolutely sure that you are using section breaks. Not needing any page numbers is not more complicated at all. A section break breaks your document into multiple sections. For each section you can the set page settings as you wish. For each section you can change the margins, page orientation, page numbers, etc. For different page numbers you just need to make sure that you unlink the footer of both sections, as I mentioned before. You need to put the cursor, where you want the section break to happen. All the content after the cursor will be moved into a new section.

😅if you are sure that it actually is a page break in your document and you really can't remove it, then probably either your Word has an error or your document. I would try to reinstall Word.

well, typically people want to remove a page break because they want to get rid of the large space it creates. It seems that you want to keep the space but get rid of the page break. Here the question would be why you even want to remove the page break in such a case....

To be honest with you, I'm not sure if Word Online even has this function. The online version is quite limited compared to the installed version, so I always the installed software.

Hey Miha, what exactly doesn't work for you? 🙂 when you activate the paragraph symbols, do you see the page break mark? And when you try to delete it, what happens?

Leon Renner I see the mark but I can’t delete it. If I double click, it opens a window where I can select different options( continuous, new page etc.) Thank you for your interest 😃

@@donasp5391 Hey Miha, I am sorry that I am answering that late but RU-vid gave me the notification about your comment just today. In regards to your question: You don't need to double click. Simple click one time in the front of the page break so that the cursor is located there. Then hit the delete key and the page break should be gone. :)

@@LeonRenner He aint lying. I uploaded my doc to google, and I couldnt get rid of 2 extra pages. I made page breaks to get different orientations, but google isnt there yet. This made my day better!

sure, simply open find and replace with CTRL+H and in the "Find what" line type "^m" (without the quotation marks). Leave the "Replace with" line empty and then click on "Replace all".

This might be the case, when the page break is at the end of a line and the line is almost "full". Then, the page break mark has only a very tiny space to show itself.

I guess you are talking about a vertical shift? Note that the only job of a page break is to shift all the content after the page break onto the next page. So, of course if you remove the page break, all the content that came after it will now move "up". If you don't want that, I'd have to know why you even want to get rid of the page break in the first place. Because with the information I have so far, it sounds like you want to remove the page break but also make the following content start on the next page (which is contradictory).
