In this video we'll show you how to remove a rear axle bearing. You'll need to do this to change a rear axle seal on most rear axles. Most of the time you'll notice when you need a rear axle seal when the drum brakes start getting covered in gear oil that leaks past the seal and into your drum brakes. You'll need to buy new seals and bearings before you begin. To reinstall the seal and bearings... Just pet everything back on the way it came off and either use a press to press them back on or use a long pipe to hammer the new bearings back in place.

Matt, I take those retainers rings off with a heavy Hammer and coal chisel, the ring will expand enough for it to slide off. Just place the other side of the ring on a anvil and hit the other side with hammer and chisel, bingo there you have it with no damage to your axle and no chance of damaging it. It is a lot easier and quicker!! Cheers No grinder needed

Have you actually replaced the bearing with a hammer and a pipe? Are you sure that works?

What if I score the shaft with the grinder? Did I just make a paperweight or is it ok to use?

Use a dremel, thinner kerf, smaller radius, easier to control. Faster too since you’re removing a lot less material

What is that toothed gear for just in front of the bearing?
@randomcitizen2384
@randomcitizen2384 5 лет назад
SeekTruthinLight That is not a gear, it is for the antilock brake system. The sensor knows the speed of that wheel as the teeth pass by the magnet on the sensor.

FYI, the bearing has a inner and outer race. When you remove the axle the outer race remains behind in the differential’s hub. You have to remove it before you can reinstall the axle.

Excellent video by the way.

I was curious what method you used to reassemble the axle shaft into the differential. Did you insert the axle shaft with the complete bearing intact or did you remove the outer race of the new bearing and press it into the hub prior to inserting the axle shaft?

Recommended if you're a cheap amateur . The other way is pay a professional to do it the right way. Not a Bodgit and Leggit expert with a rented commercial space. you never have to cut bearings unless you have not got proper equipment
