How to remove a sprinkler head and cap a sprinkler line

Removing a sprinkler head if you need to re-configure your sprinklers is easy to do. Just unscrew the sprinkler head and grab a PVC pipe cap and screw it on.

Could also have installed a 2 feet pole riser to help water your garden instead of capping it off.

Good video. I usually put a riser so it sticks above the ground (and then cap it) so I know exactly where it is if I ever want to replace the head.

Some heads have caps available. The rain bird 1800s have some you can buy on amazon. You just remove the guts of the sprinkler and screw the cap on in its place.

Does the water still get to the other sprinklers if you needed to cut and remove part of the pipe?

Very clear and straight forward thank you! Now what if I want to remove the sprinkler head and the other cap it. Instead I stall those brown pipes with the holes in them for the planters.. would you do that?

It is! I used to be afraid to do them because it was plumbing, but even if you totally mess it up it's easy to redo and fix ;-)

I had 60PSI to my sprinklers, I installed Rainbird 32SA's, my largest section only runs 3 of them at once. The county dropped my to 30PSI and when mine turn on the system drops to 18PSI. Most days my heads just dribble for 30 minutes before they actually build pressure and turn on. Any suggestions? I have pleaded with the county but they refuse to turn my pressure back up even by 5PSI.

I just did the same thing and 2 out of 3 caps leaked. I tried Teflon tape and it still leaks. Ahhhh. What now? I don’t want to pay someone.

Quick ? If I want to cap off sprinkler if that sprinkler is attached with funny pipe can I still cap it off ? Or do I need to dig out all the funny pipe and cap it off where the pvc is ?

You did not “cap the sprinkler line”. You just plugged the head. Your title implies that you cut and capped underground line running from sprinkler sprinkler. You did not.

Actually the opposite. I capped the line not the head, plugging or capping the head would be leaving the head there and putting a cap that prevents the sprinkler from operating.

@@GrassDaddy Ok. Confusing terminology for me. I think the head is the part that pops up and sprays water when the system has flow. I thought this is what you replaced with a cap, so water still flow through the unit in from the upstream head, and out to the downstream head), but no water is sprayed. The line is the actual tubing that runs from head to head underground. I will rewatch the video. I honestly couldn’t see what you were doing. Just a dark hole and never zoomed in.

I have re-watched it. You just remove the head and replaced it with a cap. You capped off the head. You did not cut and cap the line. The line is still intact. Water flows through freely to the downstream heads. Good video for what it is. Simple and straight forward.
